I would say that usually this stuff happens on the instruction of the manager. A marginal pitcher does not take it upon himself to decide when to enforce The Code.
Given the timing, I’d guess it wasn’t Porter. But in general, I don’t disagree. But there have been occasions where the player takes it on himself.
