Ken says Fielder has set the all time record for being intentionally walked in April. This, to go with his already-unbreakable “Most Postgame Spreads Annihilated In the State of Wisconsin” mark.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.
Just a really awful approach during that AB. Darvish was on the ropes, having trouble throwing strikes so let’s get overly aggressive and swing at the first thing you see? Really dumb.
Not bad news if you’re an A’s fan. Leverage is on the City/County’s side, for a change. If the Raiders don’t buy in soon (with real gap-closing money), the door may open for a different team to anchor a new stadium development.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
While it doesn’t affect the A’s in any way, I’m not sure I agree that the city/county really has that leverage. At the very least, I sincerely doubt they’d properly use that leverage if they have it. They’ll drag this thing out as long as they can without ever making any sort of decision.
I am happy that the A’s put a bunch of runners on and scored three. I am happy that darvish has thrown 115 pitches through 6. I am relatively happy with straily only allowing 3 runs.
Also, they need to time code these. You can stop it on one view and then find that time stamp on another to see if it gives a better look at the other half of the play.
I think the A’s should look into breaking up Straily and Milone since their starts tend to tax the pen. Too late now, but it would’ve made sense for Straily to start yesterday and Chavez today.
Yup… Dude should have been more aware of what happened earlier when he absolutely demolished a ball that was caught for an out, and not tried to do the same thing again an hour later.
And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here
-slusser.
someone on the FB game thread said Cespedes “wants it all” too much of the time… whole discussion on there about the Cuban players not being able to come here and take advantage of all the coaching and player development stuff from a young age, and the effect it may or may not have on their performance and how they grow up playing the game.
I think it’s hard to deny that Cespo tries to do too much at times.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.
A fair argument could be made that they’re taught from an early age to measure flash (big feats) over substance. You don’t really make a name for yourselves slapping run scoring singles all the time. You make your name demolishing the ball out of the country. I don’t think it’s intentional as if they’re specifically encouraging it, but they’re not actually teaching and awarding a proper approach to hitting. It’s also likely we they have a tendency towards showmanship that’s generally discouraged here in the states. Back home, they’re putting on a show more than they’re playing the game.
Stereotyping? Absolutely. Unfair? Perhaps and potentially arguably so. But unfounded? No. When nearly every player that comes from there has similar “flaws” and “characteristics” it’s a sign that there’s something integrated within the system they came from that encourages it. I’m *NOT* suggesting this to be a negative thing, btw. Nor am I trying to judge them. After all, they’re making millions playing this game so they have to have been extraordinarily successful at what they do just to make it here. I’m just suggesting that a fair *argument* can be made that it’s true. That does NOT necessarily mean that it *IS* true.
Wow. That list is a lot longer than I thought. There are a couple of others I was thinking of but they don’t add up to make anywhere near a fair representation based on the players I’ve seen.
Cespedes can’t swing with that little control against a pitcher who is hanging breaking pitches to every hitter up 3-1 in a game defining situation like that. Hands to the ball, a single ties the game. That swing simply can’t happen like that.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.
F*ck Yu!!!!
(that’s an order, A’s)
I’ve never quite understood why being fucked is considered a bad thing.
probably rooted in the Puritanical/Calvinist origins of our country
I’m not sure you, as a straight dude, have quite been fucked in the manner in which I’m hoping to see our team fuck Darvish tonight, though :P
LMAO. Probably true.
LOL
Good test tonight.
Parrino is the new Rosales.
Obligatory “I fking hate Dan Straily”
huh. I had fielder with the first home run
oooo! I forgot:
“click.”
Thank goodness he didn’t walk him.
jaso= competent enough to get slow people to stop trying to steal?

Gorman Thomas wants a word…
so does Cecil Cooper, I’d imagine
Stormin’!
146 ties withlansford for 4th in SBs (oakland?).
Doubt he will get to the top
Taking notes, Mr. Rios?
Angel Hernandez sighting
Fosse just called Kouzmanoff “a great pickup” by the Rangers. I know he’s had a strong start, but come on.

When is A.J. returning?
Dan straily is a margin walker.
There is no way Jed likes Rush so much that he’s using that same song two years in a row.
Needless to say, we need to tack on. At least 13 more runz.
The refs in this Warriors/Clippers game are awful
Thanks, and go As.
I thought Callaspo didn’t strikeout
Straily has nothing today. Get Pomeranz up.
Kevin Kozmanoff everybody!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOARTON
Martin respecting the power
here I was hoping to get darvish over 80 pitches this inning
wish granted!
bummer
Man, Donaldson fucked up this AB by swinging at that shitty first pitch.
He decided he was swinging yesterday
Just a really awful approach during that AB. Darvish was on the ropes, having trouble throwing strikes so let’s get overly aggressive and swing at the first thing you see? Really dumb.
Started bad, had a good middle, ended as bad as it began.
C’mon Bob, the Rangers are ripping him all over the place.
fk you Straily
yup fielder.
I’m not ready for Cook in a close game.
you dont like long walks at the coliseum?
I don’t like visitors taking a series of 90 foot walks.
While I’m no where near as over reactive as lenscrafters is, I really hope that was Straily’s last inning tonight.
Yes, you’re not over reactive at all.
Well, it was a very shitty AB. I was rather reactive. But I merely meant wrt to Straily tonight.
Feel like we got lucky with 5 IP out of Straily tonight.
yup. I am frankly surprised by only 3 runs
Oh shit Coco’s hurt
Phew.
So Abad for Choo? through fielder?
Very nice pitching by Cook…he looks like he’s getting close to figuring it out again.
I hope so. I’d rather him take over the closer role, but he’s not there yet.
eric, you have one job. make this a 7 pitcvh ab
5 is ok.
I feel like we need a two run home run here.
Is there ever a bad time for that?
Yes. When we’re on defense.
I hate these Aamco commercials.
WTF? Not supposed to be there.
Uh oh, Coliseum City.
Thanks, and go As.

Wow, that’s a whole lot of incorrect assertions in three short sentences.
That’s just like, your opinion, man. (And wrong at that).
I am happy that the A’s put a bunch of runners on and scored three. I am happy that darvish has thrown 115 pitches through 6. I am relatively happy with straily only allowing 3 runs.
Now can we please wi this one?
n
last i saw, A’s were up… w’aapen?
You left. Jerk.
no i saw that on an ESPN ribbon on my way here. got happy about it. i remember distinctly.
Oh. Then carry on.
inconclusive…
I’ll be stunned if this gets overturned.
Oh wow…
And I’m stunned.
shocked and stunned
I haven’t seen a (non-crappy Jumbotron) replay yet, but safe sure looked like the right call live.
One thing I’ve seen with replay this season is how many terrible camera angles we have.
Also, they need to time code these. You can stop it on one view and then find that time stamp on another to see if it gives a better look at the other half of the play.
Holy Misplayed Awesomeness!
Holy carp, Coco!
Byrnesian!
This guy was a waiver claim? What’s the catch?
Probably needed room and looked as his name and thought, “Well, he’s abad pitcher, let’s get rid of ahim.”
A’s traded an inconsequential minor leaguer for him.
Agood job by Abad.
Oh Vince, you sonuva…
godfkingdamnit
shit.
Glen: Still awful at judging fly balls.
ah vince. you fooled me
Marine layered
Vince Cotroneo wasn’t wrong to call that as going out, it had the sound.
He got under it and off the end of the bat. Sure looked good but not quite.
so close
Fooled me, most other nights and all other days that ball’s way gone.
I can count on one finger the number of times Kz did that in an A’s uniform.
Over on **, Tutu-late probably just creamed himself.
can’t Beltre come back already?
I would like a strikeout.
Fking X-A’s
Donnie Murphy? Really?
at least now we don’t have to worry about that runner on 3rd.
Best bullpen in baseball ™
Kozmanoff and murphy.
Great.
I really fking hate that music and they’re playing it more often. Fk you CSNCA.
I know its second guessing, but righty, lefty, righty, lefty, why Doolitte in a tie game.
Isn’t he better saved for Fielder? next inning?
I think the A’s should look into breaking up Straily and Milone since their starts tend to tax the pen. Too late now, but it would’ve made sense for Straily to start yesterday and Chavez today.
kazmir today or tomorrow, yeah
Barton with the Charlie-Brown-undressing line drive.
Why couldn’t the A’s have DFA’d little nicky to the Twins along with Fuld?
dammit
Ugh, it annoys me that the Rangers were able to get Rios for practically nothing.
Oh wow – that was a double-ugly.
gotta stop this run from scoring
wtf is he swinging at
I’m very disappointed with his ABs tonight – very hack-tastic.
crap
yeah. Fail by Donaldson and Cespedes there.
Thanks, and go As.
That 3-1 pitch to Cespedes…
Yup… Dude should have been more aware of what happened earlier when he absolutely demolished a ball that was caught for an out, and not tried to do the same thing again an hour later.
Thanks, and go As.

This smacks of unfounded stereotyping. Do you know enough about Cuban baseball to back this up? Does anyone outside of Cuba?
Stereotyping? Absolutely. Unfair? Perhaps and potentially arguably so. But unfounded? No. When nearly every player that comes from there has similar “flaws” and “characteristics” it’s a sign that there’s something integrated within the system they came from that encourages it. Could you be more specific when you say “nearly every player that comes from there”? Who are we talking about other than Cespedes and Puig?
Wow. That list is a lot longer than I thought. There are a couple of others I was thinking of but they don’t add up to make anywhere near a fair representation based on the players I’ve seen.

well poo, i always say.
i expected a loss when I saw the matchup. I am happy that I am so disappointed with the loss.
Kevin Kouzmanoff? really sean?
And Donnie (out of his element) Murphy.
At least the A’s didn’t lose by 40.
There is a shit-ton of hockey on TV right now. A metric shit-ton, presumably.
