BOGUS
- 17-year-olds, Dude
- Interesting and prejudicial (in both senses), but nota smoking gun
AWESOME
- This is exceptionally well done, especially for getting executed in such a timely fashion
- Speaking of getting executed in a timely fashion, this is precisely the sort of thing conservatives are afraid of happening with the KSMNYC trial (I do, however, call shenanigans on the premise of the article)
- Yep, Anaheim:
- Euphemism watch:
- Good Neyer I
- Good Neyer II
- Sal bait:
- Ha-ha!
“Oh, no, he’s not really going to do that OH YES HE IS!”
And: Herzog directing Jennifer Coolidge? Wow.

Question for the class: Does this explain the Angels too?
Sully (or one of his minions) nails this
Brad DeLong asks a good question
People aren’t economists, Democrats are too busy with other things to move public opinion, and Republicans are committed to attacking any proposal with any potential to make Democrats look good.
Brad DeLong asks another good question
For the same reason we never declare war any more?
I’m conflicted by this. On the one hand, I do think NFL stats are pretty darn weak (and some of Simmons’ attacks on them make sense). On the other hand, 80% of what he brings is directly reminiscent of the anti-Sabr stuff that makes me throw up in my mouth.
FK thoughts on the 4th-and-2?
I really don’t understand why people like him — or Posnanski, for that matter. They just go on … and on … and on … when a simple marshaling of facts and clean prose would have them done and out in 6 short paragraphs, max.
Of course, that very fact explains why they’re both successful magazine writers.
(The marshaling of facts, of course, in Simmons’ case, would render his column moot.)
Simmons has become some sort of unsupportable toad, but I’ll not have you sully Posnanski, Monkey. Damn your bananas! Damn them to hell!
Oh yeah? Well, I’ll not have you posnanski Sully!
Well, I might enjoy that, but that’s neither here nor there…
Not necessarily. I thought the 2-point conversion part was interesting.
I think there are too many variables in football–too many situational things to accurately rely upon statistics to retroactively justify a decision.
There’s a reason teams don’t do what Belichick did, and the end result is why–when you fail, you lose. I’m not sure why he did what he did, but all things equal, I’d rather have him as my coach than be playing against him.
awards are meaningless, unless they go to ‘people we like.’

The Barry Zito of Hollywood?
… and of course, “Doomsday Bottom” is what Sully himself was for a couple years after 9/11.
So awesome
The most crazy thing about Crazy Andrew is that he doesn’t seem to have even an inkling of how fun this all is.
Bible Spice?!
Sickels/Beane interview (HT: VK)
So, when Beane says Barton isn’t done, that means Barton’s done, right?
Travis Buck thinks so.
Carter, FDLS, Figueroa, Souza added to roster
Haven’t seen this officially, or anywhere else.
Grover named Recker and Lansford as two other players who might need protection from the Rule 5 draft. Recker has hit at every level, but the A’s don’t seem really high on him; he got less playing time at AAA than 31-year-old Eric Munson. Lansford has had a decent ERA the last couple of years, but with mediocre K/BB numbers.
Those 4 (which I can’t find confirmation on either) plus those currently listed on the official 40 man roster makes 39, leaving 1 spot for Lansford/Recker/Godfrey/Rule 5 addition.
I still have a hard time seeing Everidge, Eveland and Casilla in the long term plans.
E&E could be marginally useful in ’10 (especially if, as it looks increasingly likely, Beane really isn’t concerned with the ’10 w/l%) … Casilla, not so much. But, yeah, beyond next year, nope.
But would you want that marginal usefulness at the risk of losing Lansford/Recker/Godfrey/Wimberly? Just doesn’t compute for me.
I have no opinion on that — I’ll defer to you and the other Krauthors on the value and likelihood-of-being-rule-fived of that quartet.
I think it would be crazy to expose Dana (there are definitely teams he could start for). Eveland, however, I think is garbage. So too Casilla.
I’m guessing you mean Godfrey when you said Dana?
Actually, I meant Everidge when I said Eveland. I might have still been hungover.
Man. Anyone else see that UNC-Syracuse game? The first 8 minutes of the second half were bru-tal.
For Tar Heels. Pretty nice actually for upper staters…
Carolina’s guards suck. I knew they were doomed as soon as ‘Cuse beat Cal yesterday; no way in hell you beat that zone with a no outside shooting and a mediocre point guard.
I think they should field a lineup of the five guys they have who are 6’9″ plus, and let 7’0″ Tyler Zeller run the point.
An update on the monkey was the third story on the evening news tonight. Again, the news isn’t that they’ve caught the monkey or they’ve identified where the monkey came from. The news is they’ve sighted the monkey again. I may miss this place.
Nah.
They probably had a guy who didn’t make the final on-air cut saying, “Hay-ell, I see a monkey ever’ tahm Ah go to the Winn-Dixie!”
Re: Sal bait
I find the production just a smidge overwrought, but it *is* for a good cause (isn’t it? – I don’t really know). The cult of Obama might as well be used for good and not evil. However, unions are going to have to re-think their support of Obama in light of the president’s efforts to increase volunteerism.
