So it appears that our platoon strategy will be paying immediate dividends. Rumor has it that we will need to find 2 of each position and have them escorted out while the rains come down.
With t-minus 30 minutes to go, we are hearing that the sun is creeping out, and I will not let the 2 TIME DEFENDING DIVISION CHAMPS (god I love saying that) start off the season without a proper game thread. It may be lonely, but we will carry one while our RAF friends cheer in the stands.

Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it? -Steve McCatty
Not going to lie-the room gets a little dusty when they do the introduction of the whole team.
Let’s open this thing with a win, FKers.
By the way, I had to get this from hatclub.com:
That’s nice. Do you know if we actually wore TATC unis, or were they all just inspired by the teams that did wear them?
They did. I’m glad they actually went with something more unique than just a blown-up logo on the jersey and a similar cap with a slightly modified color set:
Also, this is the only image I’ve ever found of them in the jerseys. There are lots of others of many of the rest who participated.
Apparently the Yankees were asked about doing something and they said something to the effect of, “What we’re wearing now is what we’ll be wearing whenever this future thing is.” Kind of have to respect that, I suppose.
You do. They are d-bags, but they know who they are.
And I will bet anything this is the only image of them. I remember uniwatch doing a story on them a couple of years ago and I could never find any image. It’s funny, you would think MLB would have made a bigger deal of it. Guess it shows just how great the league PR was back then.
To be fair, a majority of the uniforms were complete shit. Arizona had the snake design wrapping around the back, which was nice, and I like that the Royals had the full crown logo on their cap. Milwaukee did a more unique hat as well, and of course the Mets went all the way with their Mercury Mets thing (pretty much the opposite of the Yankees’ stance).
How long ago did they film that Doolittle A’s Community Fund commercial? Haven’t seen him clean-shaven in ages.
Stupid wrong spot comment.
Might need a review of this one.
Again in the wrong spot. But oh, not reviewable?
Did seem to go over the bag, anyway.
Fair or foul is only reviewable on balls that initially hit the ground past the bag, as I understand it. Those “did the ball cross over the bag” plays aren’t reviewable.
Yeah, the graphic showed “outfield only” on fair/foul.
PFP looks the best at the start of the season, but I do believe Gray fields his position well.
STOP POSTING COMMENTS IN THE WRONG SPOT! I’M TYPING THEM IN AT THE BOTTOM!
Rickey had a little mustard on that one. I still want them to do a first steal instead one day.
Steal home … from the mound.
Hello fellow NRAFS. Here’s to another great season.
Cheers!
Which reminds me.
Dinner was some simple stew and a nice cold Chelada. What is everyone else starting off the season with?
Crab bisque soup, leftover salad, and an Elysian Immortal. Cheers :)
I’m barely here.
You just got home, your internet is shaky, or you are exhausted?
Yes.
I give no fucks right now.
BOOBIES
Wrongright thread.and that’s the way our season begins.
Apparently the ump doesn’t care much about getting this game in.
Made it a whole 2 batters before I started cursing in the 2014 season.
Hi, folks. Did I miss anything?
Tight strike zone is tight.
I miss Vogt already. Jaso is seriously awful at framing.
I had forgot just how bad he was. Why isn’t he DHing more?
Because Barton
wonderin’ what replay mgr challenges will do to neighborhood plays…
Rules say they’re not allowed to review that.
ah.
Gonna see a bit of that new bullpen tonight.
And a Barton scoop.
yay
Whole team just looks sluggish right now. Keebs almost airmailed that flip. Lowrie with a shitty lob into the dirt. And Sonny has no life on his fastball.
besides anything else, it’s kinda cold. my fingers went numb just doing the combination padlock earlier.
Ooooof.
It’s almost like Yankees fans have no self awareness.
Ya think?
Ohh, Sogard making some sweet glove.
Thataboy Sonny!
Aces get out of jams like those.
There’s the Gray curve. Also some nice D by Barton.
I don’t see Callaspo making plays like that at 1B.
yup
Sonny Gray is simply making magic tonight.
Why the fk is he in still in there…
As far as positioning goes on that play at the plate…I have no idea.
q: if jaso is entirely within the foul line, does the path to the plate outside the foul line count as “the lane?”
i guess the umps say yes?
This could be a pretty interesting review. Why not, right?
it will be interesting to see how many replays we have in the 6th inning this year if you basically lose them from the 7th on.
(predictable Soaker moaning about replay…)
If Francona has his challenge left in the top of the 6th he might as well use it even at miniscule odds. Any Indians-favoring replay starting with the top of the 7th would be initiated by the crew chief. It’s like those “use it or lose it” time outs by college basketball coaches at the end of the first half.
SuSlu says the crew chief went to the review on his own in this case.
But I think, over time, Soaker’s moaning will be correct. Why not challenge something in the hopes that the NY office goes Angel Hernandez on something?
Right.
Or *IS* Angel Hernandez
Quite a performance by Sonny Gray tonight, struggles and all.
Yeah, he had far from his best stuff tonight and he still got the results. That’s some Tim Hudson moxie right there.
Whaddaya say we go ahead and win this one, eh?
Do we get to win this time?
Blah, there’s a blob approaching Point Reyes but you’re good until the 13th inning. Locally we’ve had maybe 1.5″ of powder since 5 p.m., pretty trivial. Our storm fizzled.
Can’t start much better than what Gregerson just did.
Wow, Gregerson looked pretty awesome there.
Enough of God Bless America at baseball games already.
I like GBA in general, but if I never hear it at a ballgame again Im ok with that.
So much this.
Oh so much.
Would be a nice time for Cespedes to run into one here.
A’s to wear No. 5 include John Jaha, John Jaso.
At this point, the opposing team could throw Dana Eveland out there on Opening Day and I’d bet he’d still shut us down.
He might give up a run.
Okay…once replying to a comment, how do I stop it from going back to the same spot over and over? Things didn’t used to be like this.
Not sure…I haven’t had it happen to me yet. I use Firefox.
So am I. The weird thing I’m seeing is after leaving the comment it seems to keep the one I’m replying to highlighted, and even when I use the box at the very bottom it’s going back to that spot.
If you want to leave a top-level comment, make sure there’s no “Cancel Reply” next to “Leave a Reply” before you post. I’ve done the ctrl-A/ctrl-C bit pretty often.
Right now I have no idea when it’ll go in the right spot or not, LOL.
I think it happens when you post a reply, it auto-reloads, and then you do a manual reload of the same thread. Sometimes your earlier text will be in the comment box, and it will also be confused about where it goes.
One workaround is to load a different post or the front page, and then go back to the post.
I see the text sticking around in the comment box a fair amount, yeah. I might just have to go back to the front page more often, or click on the topic whenever it shows new posts. I know it didn’t used to happen like that.
It’s because I couldn’t find an AJAX comment plugin that does what I actually want (like the old one did) but was coded in the last 5 years, and therefore has a shot at being compatible with newer WP versions.
When I have time (HA!) I’m hoping to go through the version/plugin upgrade motions again.
The stage is set for an A’s run or two in the 8th and a shaky Jim Johnson 9th.
Let’s go A’s rally started by Barton.
Test comment.
Weird, this time it posted it at the bottom. I give up!
browser might be tired. give it a restart?
Maybe. The one below came after I refreshed the page, and it still went to the bottom. I tend to keep a gamethread up and refresh from time to time when new comments are indicated.
Another test comment.
That stage I mentioned? Definitely set now.
Not much worse in baseball than an umpire whose strike zone moves around during the game.
Nice base running by Staplehead.
He’s no longer Staplehead.
Aroldis Chapman is. Not gonna post the pic, though. I’ll just link it.
And then terrible base running by the Athletic formerly known as Staplehead.
What? Barton messed up that one by not going halfway. And top of the wall? Jeeeeez.
FWIW, Sogard seems to be getting 0 criticism for thinking Kipnis might be 10′ tall on another of Donaldson’s should-have-been RBIs
Oh come on. Freezing on a line drive is basic fundamentals. Just like going halfway instead of tagging from second with one out is, or should’ve been, basic fundamentals.
is running back to second on a line drive fundamental? is not knowing where the fielders are fundamental?
Yes barton screwed up. His screw up was worse.
LOL
Knowing where the fielders are doesn’t preclude you from having to freeze on a line drive. That’s why it’s a fundamental. We know there are many instances of players not scoring from second on line drive singles. There are rarely any instances of a player not scoring from second on a would be double off the wall, non Bengie Molina division.
lol how about him running back to second, not freezing.
Because it doesn’t matter? Whether he just froze or ran back, he wasn’t scoring on that play.
running back made it possible for him to be thrown out at third with a good play. Or if the ball got out between the out fielders maybe he could have scored
Look, Barton screwed up. It happens. it sucks. I am not defending his shit for brainsiness.
i am not saying sogard should be benched for his (albeit lessor) baserunning fuck up. nor his god forsaken flip to second on a DP play from 60 feet away.
Barton made a fundamental error. he should know better, he is 29 years old and his job has been baseball for 10 years.
Ok I can agree with most of this. In any case I am tired of talking about Barton this much just one game into the season. Hopefully, he gives us something better to talk about soon.
indeed
Jack Cust would have scored on that one. Or he wouldn’t.
Jack Cust both would and wouldn’t have scored on that one, until someone observed him.
Cust’s catlike movement grace led you to this thought.
he also woulda strickout.
Until the third pitch of an at bat is thrown, Jack Cust strikes out both looking and swinging.
I guess nobody wants to mention that Coco was back at first base and not halfway either, or the fact that there was still a bases loaded situation in which neither Lowrie or Moss could get a runner home.
Let’s blame Barton though.
Thanks, and go As.
Crisp should have gone halfway so that he and Barton could both end up at third base?
Crisp isn’t going to tag up in any circumstance, so he should be half way so he can get to third.
I don’t think Sogard did the wrong thing in that situation. You have to make sure it’s going to get past the infielder first.
As for Barton last night, I know I have a soft spot for him and part of it is due to some personal interaction with him, but in spite of his mistake in the 8th I don’t buy him being the scapegoat. He did have a hit and a walk, and he saved a run or two defensively.
It sucks that he cost them the potential winning run but Johnson still stunk in the 9th – which I think he’s going to do more than we’re hoping for – and a lot of other key guys in the lineup did absolutely nothing.
They lost for many more reasons than just Barton not being halfway on Donaldson’s hit.
Barton….
What the fuck
(its not going to matter)
Spectacular to lose to the situation where having more outs would have helped.
Cause everything totally would’ve played out the same way if the A’s scored that run.
I really hope all 162 games aren’t this weird.
I guess this means Opening Night Pie.
Christ, is it game 4 again?
It’s so hard to root for Barton again when he keeps insisting on taking two steps back for each step forward.
This indeed.
What the fk just happened?
What is it with us, CLE, and hits that at the VERY edge one way or the other.
And yeah, that was some horrible Bartoness there. Not quite Cust falling rounding third but you have to go half way there, he still could have got back and tagged.
This is Jim Johnson, A’s fans.
OK, let’s see how JJ gets out of one.
We’ll be talking about Jim Johnson the same way we talk about FUUUUU. I guarantee it.
Jim Johnson is like an earthquake.
If this were a road game, at least we could get it over with…
Ah geez, not this shit again.
Am I wishing for GB right now? I think I am.
So far this is about a 5.3 on the Jim Johnson Richter Scale.
FK whoever thought it’d be a good idea to spend 10 million on this bullshit.
Arthur Rhodes wouldn’t seem so bad. Blah, Barton spared Johnson from the blown save. The A’s always start 0-1 anyway.
Where’s that rain when you need it.
Fact: Andy Abad and Fernando Abad do not pronounce their last names the same.
and that’s why i always call them the sam and william houston of baseball.
I know it is one game plus a meaningless spring training. But based on what we have seen, should Johnson be ahead of anyone but maybe Scribner?
I think he’s very overrated as a closer, to be honest. I know I’m not the only one.
Punto’s going to make the final out sliding into first, right?
(Sigh)
I don’t know what’s going to cause me to lose sleep more: This game, or that highlight from 2004 (starring Byrnes and BoCro).
Oh good. Now Barton is primed to make the last out, after effectively losing this game with his baserunning.
If Punto hits a home run, I’ll laugh my ass off.
If a contest were held between Daric Barton and a hunk of raw obsidian to see who was less intelligent, the rock would surely lose. At this point I’d like to see his photo collection of Billy Beane in flagrante delicto with various horses.
one could argue raw obsidian would have been thrown out at second…
Daric Barton got on base twice, made 3 plays that Moss and or Callaspo may or may not make, and saved a run that Moss would have definitely given up on a first and third 2 outs ground ball to sogard and barton retreated to the bag instead of going for the ball.
But yeah, focus on a basrunning blunder (that was preceded by a great baserunning play.)
Well, yeah, but frame it Ed, it would have been 1-0, if he hadn’t fucked it up…
And he did, unquestionably, fuck it up.
Yes, cause going 1-3 with a walk means it’s totally cool later to make a blunder Little Leaguers wouldn’t make at a critical junction of the game.
The DB defense force is hilarious. I’m with Soaker; the sooner Barton is finally out of the organization, the better it is for everyone, including him.
I’m w/ lens here, there’s a reason he’s been w/ the org 10 years and is still is a ‘maybe’.
Good enough to be a ‘fill in’ for injuries, but ultimately shouldn’t be in the lineup.
If options weren’t in play, I’d doubt we’d even be discussing this.
He is the best option. AS he was in 2010 (11?) when Giambi got teh job. He is not the better than other external options.
Given teh totality of his play last night, he was a positive. He screwed up, sure. but that didn’t lose the game. He scores there, its what first and third? Maybe 2nd and third. Sure maybe lowrie puts the ball in play, but since he actually struck out, I don’t think its tough to see him doing it again.
I think its idiotic to emotionally blame Barton, we had these arguments on ** and we left because of them (among other things).
No it’s not clear to me at all that he is a better option over Vogt. It is clear to me however, that the emotional and irrational has seeped into those that support Barton as much as those that detract him.
I suppose there is some yet to be quantified things about barton that need to be taken on faith. Like the 4th inning jam Gray got out of in the 4th. No other MLB ready firstbaseperson in the A’s organization allows that to happen. I can’t prove that, My eyes are my only evidence, so yeah, its faith.
Moss is a black hole…AT FIRST BASE. moving him back there in favor of a small defensive upgrdade in Vogt v Jaso is not a game changing move. I don’t think its better. YMMV.
Anyway, yeah, maybe I do get overly defensive on Barton. I’ll watch that.
I don’t necissarily think that the difference between vogt and jaso is small.
its not bigger than the offensive difference
I think it probably is (bigger than the offensive difference between Vogt and Barton).
barton +jaso +Moss DH v Vogt +moss1B + (DH), I am betting on Barton being the better option.
Wouldn’t Jaso be the DH in the 2nd scenario?
Thanks, and go As.
sure. But current roster construction, I don’t think it matters that much
Barton has about a .15 woba advantage in projections over Vogt (although both are pretty hard to project), and Barton is probably about 10 runs better at 1B than Moss, so if the offensive projections are roughly accurate, there would have to be a pretty huge defensive difference between Jaso and Vogt. I think the offensive difference is probably less though, so hard to say.
To the extent morale matters at all, certainly that would favor Vogt…
This.
Barton Defense Forces, engage!
Ugh.
what he said.
I guess we should stop blaming it on Felix Hernandez.
fail
I think I’m going to swear off opening days along with Game 4s and 5s. The litany of bullshit that has accumulated over the years from those events is seriously bad for my emotional health.
Losing game 1 = following the blueprint from the last 2 years!
Or 9 (last opening day win – 2004)
On the strength of a pinch hit two run double by Eric Byrnes, and a shut-down 9th for the save by Arthur Rhodes. Also an Eric Karros sighting.
But won the division the last two (yes, I know, 2006).
Primary reason not to make Opening Day a national holiday? How do you celebrate the A’s losing on that day?
Well, shit.
At least our hitting coach didn’t break his leg catching the ceremonial first pitch.
Ours will probably choke on a peanut and die.
which is pretty much how i feel when i try to parse this:
heh
Rain gave way, sun came out, Daric Barton…
xoxoxo
Meanwhile, from one of the Boston Douchebags:
James probably knows this already, but what makes that photo even worse is that he’s wearing that outfit to the White House to meet Obama today.
Did not know. Yes, even worse.
Also, I think that’s Gomes, not Napoli (who looks mostly the same but has a bigger beard). Napoli was wearing the same coat (Gomes bought them for everyone), but supposedly has changed into a proper suit for the White House visit. Last bit of horrifying news is that Gomes was carrying a bag, presumably containing another one of these blazers that he’s going to give to Obama.
That is the summary of all things Red Sox clothing related, courtesy of my wife.
We’re all dumber for it.
Fuck the Red Sox.
It’s not that bad. Gomes could have given Obama a voucher for the matching tattoo instead a matching coat. Also, fuck the Red Sox.
What a dumbass.
Is photOZgraphy our ozz?
The G is pronounced as a T.
Heh!
Jose Reyes – True Athletic (go get him, Billy!)
I’ll say this for Barton: he’s had a decent career for a guy with excrement in place of his cerebrum.
Absolutely true
Hilarious and apparently not a fake stupid April Fool thing:
Fan Appreciation Night in April, who knew?
So I finally saw a replay of the challenge. I now understand why the umpire cllled for it instead of “charging” the Clevelands.
That said, it looked like brantley was angeling into jaso more than jaso was blocking the lane. Had the ball been dislodged I think the call could be arguably been out. That shows me how not very well thought out the home plate collision rule is.
So have we figured out whether or not directed parking is happening all season long?
Thanks, and go As.
I would guess sell out games.
Did it seem to anyone else that the metal detector security people had never used or been trained? When I went through the gate at 6, they acted like I was the first one to show up.
I don’t know if that was the problem, but it sure was a slow process. Does anyone know if they are going to be used for all games now?
Yes I believe the metal detector edict is league-wide, full time. The set up yesterday was the same as it’s done for Raiders games, but the staff sure did seem unpracticed at it. Hopefully they’ll get more efficient and quicker.
I do think directed parking is here to stay for the sellout games, also nights when Oracle has something on at the same time. It would be quite stupid for them to insist on directed parking for more sparse crowds (Disclaimer: Not a guarantee against team stupidity). Anyway, for tailgating at such games we might need to try to pre-meet outside the gate to drive in together. Or choose less-popular tailgate dates.
So… rare?
DID YOU WATCH YET?
Yes, though I was strangely disappointed. Too much hype and didn’t even come close to living up to it. Good, but my expectations weren’t met.
Today for the day game, there was one guy down by the center aisle feebly waving a flag, but none of the ropes or barriers were up, so everyone ignored him. There were about 15K for the day game and 11K for the night, at least 5K of whom were the same people based on eyeballing the cars that stayed for both.
They were using the metal detectors for the day game — and at this early point of the season, about half the people going in at the season ticket holders’ entrance when I came in were being wanded instead, because they had either a pacemaker or an artificial joint or both. We all had to leave after the day game and hang out in the parking lot for an hour or so, and when we came back, at least on the north main entrance, the metal detectors had been abandoned.
they told me to take off my watch after I had passed through without the metal detector beeping.
We left between games and came in through the LF entrance off the BART ramp for the night game, and they were still using the detectors.
Food update: plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose. Aramark may be gone, but don’t think that means the food is substantially upgraded. There is a new burrito stand to the north of the WSC, but it was closed yesterday. The only place we saw with veggie dogs ($5.75!) was behind 108, in a stand called Fresh Gourmet or something, and they have “deli sandwiches” too. The best veggie option may well be the margherita pizza from the brick oven, conveniently located next to the new craft beer stand inside the WSC. The wine bar in there is ridiculously expensive.
When I saw you I had just given up my quest for food. It all looked terrible. I had to run back to the kids left alone in 124.
Also, I found the signs hard to read.
When you saw me on Monday I was on a similarly futile quest.
The thin-crust pizzas from the WSC did look pretty good. I’ll probably try those at some point. Other than that, yeah, pretty grim.
Segundo Upgrade got one of those grilled cheese sandwiches on really fat bread they still have, from the same stand behind Sec 130 or so, and reported that it was good.
Yeah whats the point of having flat-screens everywhere if you can’t read them, terrible legibility with all the lightweight fonts they were using on colored backgrounds. Also horrible design, so much dead space…
speaking of vendors, anyone snuck beers in yet? Can you get them through the metal detectors?
I always transfer to a plastic apple juice container – only ever hit a problem during the playoffs. Have to be very careful opening it once you’re in though.
Yes, lots of food stands were closed yesterday. The burrito place to the north of the WSC is good, according to wacchampions and TheFamousRalph who ate there on Monday. Minimal changes to the existing stands’ menus — e.g. no more chicken sausage at Saag’s, but chicken sandwich added at the burger/grilled cheese place.
All of the permanent food stands have electronic menus now, enabling them to add and remove items, change prices etc. There are several freestanding pushcarts that look like things you would see at a county fair; two on either end of the bleacher concourses sell corn dogs and jalapeno poppers, one (at least) on the club level concourse sells many flavors of kettle corn.
There are also some interesting-looking new salads on the menu of the WSC itself. However, when I went up to the bar yesterday to get a soda pop and something to eat, the bartender informed me that it is no longer possible to order food at the bar; he alleged that you can only get WSC food by going through the host stand and being seated at a table in the front part of the club. The idea that they need to cut down on the number of customers buying food seems ludicrous to me and everyone else I’ve told about it, so wac is checking it out tonight.
Holy carp, $5.75!? Did you get a look at them? If they are the same size w/ the same crappy bun that’s ridiculous. Thanks for the pizza tip, what side (if your facing the field) of the WSC is it on?
Third base side. Didn’t see a veggie dog.
I didn’t see veggie dogs anywhere either. but I stayed on the field level third base side
The stand that sells them is behind 108, but I didn’t actually see one so can’t say if they’re the same as they used to be or some newer sausage style.
I’ve thought in prior years that the veg dogs were priced low, relative to the usual ballpark markup.
They were .50 more than coliseum dogs, small and shriveled looking like a naked baby rodent. I’be bringing field roast instead for a while now and just use the free condiments to spice it up. There’s free sliced jalapenos around 123!
Wow, posting while talking to your gf- I just created a new word – I’be – which somehow translates into ‘I’ve been’…
i like it.

Looks like Game 2 may end up being rained out.
Where are you seeing that? From what I’ve looked at it seems like a similar pattern as yesterday’s.
Forecast shows rain starting back up around 3, and going all evening.
You heard it here first.
Good call.
Except I’m not really sure why they called it so early. Yes, it was coming down hard around 5:30 but it pretty much stopped raining around 6:30 and never picked back up again. Kinda like Monday night.
Monday night rained earlier. Tuesday night’s rain didn’t leave enough time for the field to drain before gametime, and there was at least one brief but powerful squall around 8:30.
So with two catchers on the roster, BoMel is not willing to DH Jaso when Norris starts against a righty. This is problematic if it means Callaspo gets the DH by default.
that’s an 8 run line up. Book it
this is phased provocatively:
I’m catching Scott Kazmir; and the only cure is MOAR Norris!
Yes. Another reason to want Vogt on the roster. At this point, I would probably prefer him to any one of Barton, Callaspo, or Punto. (Or Fuld, but Gentry will replace him soon enough.)
Thanks, and go As.
A’s only face one lefty in the first seven games .
“I do like to try to get everyone involved within the first three or four days, especially the bench players, the role-type players,” Melvin said. “They’re getting consistent at-bats in Spring Training, and you don’t want anyone sitting around for six or seven days and losing their edge. So we’ll take a look at that.”
He could play Callaspo for Keebs then. I know what Jaso does isn’t flashy but he’s roughly the 2nd or 3rd best bat against righties on this team. The difference between him and Callaspo is enormous.
Agreed. I think refusing to bat players for other positions is Melvin’s biggest weakness. For example, no Norris for Punto yesterday. Followed by refusing to play both catchers. Vogt is literally an hour away. Play part of a game with no DH.
and of course, game 4
This this this this this this this this this.
Drives me fucking crazy every time.
Did they win?
MLB.com suggests I watch the game in Houston this evening (“Farewell Tour Begins For God’s Puppy”), but I think I’ll check in on Rockies-Marlins, which features the comedy of Brett Anderson at-bats without the terror of the potential result.
brett anderson is is not only going to pitch in 12 games, he is going to win 12 this year, just to spite us.
boom
At least Donaldson didn’t try to blame it on Barton.
Bwahahaha
Gimenez: “And that’s all I know about their scouting and signals.”
Wash: “Get. Out.”
“Damn, and I just sublet a condo from Adam Rosales!”
OK batgirl, 6:00 pm, it’s on!
That’s about as good a half as the Tar Heel women can play. They’ll need to be that good or better in the second half to beat Stanford.
Nope, Stanford too good. On they go.
I don’t have fancy html skills but here you go…
“this is an easy play for anderson who fields his position well” -Rockes PXP
I am not sure if “fields his position well describes anderson in general, or the play that he made.
bret anderson now has a hit
Game 2 postponed. Split doubleheader tomorrow.
Thanks, and go As.
/taptap … this thing on? …
Okay, so no foolin’? Linkage for the Doubting?

Howdy stranger. Had you been around last week you could have claimed FK men’s college hoops alma mater supremacy, edging out doctorK’s intrepid Iowa State Cyclones.
Backatcha! Wasn’t much joy in the M-villes Sunday evening. They needed Mitch Gary.
In case anyone else is surprised, tonight’s make-up game starts at 6 PM.
Also, re parking — it ain’ g’wine be free, I think.
Free Parking Tuesdays: Season Ticket Holders who use a Dated VIP/Premium parking pass on a Free Parking Tuesday can use their dated pass for the announced make-up game or any 2014 Oakland Athletics Regular Season game. However, a parking space is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. All other fans with a dated receipt from a Free Parking Tuesday may not use that towards the announced make-up game or any 2014 Oakland Athletics Regular Season game.
So what are we going to do now? Orgy?
Well, at least that’ll make it easier for you all to devote full attention to rooting for the Tar Heels Women’s hoops team. Tip off in 10 minutes! Put that snooty Tara Vanderveer in her place!
i took an office couch nap for this??
just watching the rays telecast, they had an Aaron Sorkin walk around interview with a team official talking about how they mad a standing rail all around the park. it seems like they took out some seats and mad this “bar” type thing. not a terrible idea.
there were also tarps in a lot of places over seats.
Guys, I’m in charge of the ER again tomorrow. Hold me.
Make sure to humiliate the patients who are only there to beg for Oxy prescriptions.
We have someone who comes in and begs for FLUIDS. I don’t get it.
wow. you’re way crueler than i thought. not everybody can have naturally radiant clear skin, you know!!
(we’re talking about oxy 10, right?)
My first pt was vomitimg copious of blood. Like, large blood clots.
All day was terrible. So much so, I’m working until 0100 tomorrow/tonight.
prince fielder is #84.
I don’t like football numbers in my baseball
good job, ‘stros.

Always the ones you least expect…
AV, how is it in Argentina. Do you have April’s Fool’s Day, or DÃa de los inocentes?
do you want me to wait till midnight to answer, or will you believe whatever i say right now?
it wasn’t part of my childhood and it’s not culturally big, but 12/28… 28/12 rather, is on the special dates calendar. actually, so is april first. but in that case, it’s known as the day of the bride. so i guess the technical answer to your question is… yes.
oh wait. sorry. first *sunday in april is brides’.
It’s April 2nd here already, so all inaccurate postings are filtered by my internet provider. Could be why there is so little to read.
I love stupid baseball fans.
Every team’s got ’em!
All A’s fans are intelligent and gorgeous.
Ed is only pretty on the outside
And I’m only pretty on the inside. Or at least that’s what my mom says.
The weird thing about this is that moronic fans on the internet also said Ellsbury was a “trader” when he was signed by the Yankees.
So it very well could be performance art copying those folks. On the other hand, the camo hat doesn’t really lend to any intelligence…
Don’t forget the way she’s wearing it.
Anyone want the front row seats for either/both of today’s games?
Yes!
Is anyone driving to today’s games? It would be nice to have a car to stash some items for the night game, but we’ll be prepared to bring in everything if not.
Nope BARTing, we usually hang out at the bottom of the ramp in lot A by the Jersey barriers.
K, see you in a bit.
I wonder how the television will sort out for tonight. CSN has to add the A’s when they already had the Giants, Warriors and Kings scheduled. It’s not an issue in the Bay Area; you’ll see the A’s rather than the usual replacement programming for a Kings game. Those of us in the hinterlands get both the Warriors and Kings though. We’ll see how Comcast and DirecTV solve this traffic jam. Could be radio-only for me.
I know that on opening night CSN CA on Comcast here was using the plus feed. I assume it will be similar tonight, but am hoping I will at least have a radio feed-the local station didn’t have opening night on the radio because they also had Fresno State basketball on at the same time.
I don’t get the Warriors on TV. I was unaware there were places that got both them and the Kings. But when the Kings, Sharks, and A’s all play at once even if the Giants and/or Warriors aren’t playing, I sometimes end up screwed.
I think the NBA uses DMA boundaries to delineate the Warriors and Kings exclusive territories.
Warriors exclusive territory
Kings exclusive territory
Outside the yellow areas on either one of those maps, if you get the CSN channels you can see both teams’ games.
It must be frustrating to be a Kings fan in someplace like Antioch, or a Warriors fan in Vacaville. The NBA gives you a Selig-like screwing in those cases.
Josh Lindblom is starting the second game while the Indians are going with their regular rotation. We’re at a pretty big disadvantage here considering the Indians have an off day tomorrow and could go with most of their regulars for both games. FKing rain
I’m just happy we don’t have to face Salazar.
New game thread posted. Hopefully we have better luck than last year when I set up the threads.
