I got the day off, baby. Hoops tourney on two TVs and drinking before noon. Happy Spring, bitches!
Crazy-good first day of the tournament. I have North Dakota State into the Sweet 16 (#noonecaresaboutyourfantasyteambracket). Hope today is as entertaining. I have concerns about my Heels. My other favorite team in the tournament is University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULA-La), solely because locals refer to it as Ooo-Laa-Laa.
The one time I went to spring training I drove down to Tuscon and saw an A’s vs Rockies game at venerable (i.e. termite-ridden) Hi Corbett Field. The NCAA tournament had just started, so I went down to the front row and hollered at Walt Weiss “Go Tar Heels,†and he gave me a big thumbs up.
Wednesday in Arizona, a very Athletics spring moment: Ryan Cook throwing simulated ABs to Craig Gentry. Sick bay, at least, is in midseason form.
Sonny Gray on the mound for the A’s tonight, in the gloaming at Scottsdale, 6:35 pm. Giants TV crew on CSNBA. Counting by fives that’d put Sonny on 3/21, then 3/26, then 3/31, baby!
Public defenders gone wild: She then calmed down and told police “I’m not worried anymore; give me some cocaine.”
Searching for wreckage in the Roaring Forties sounds tough. Too tough, if you catch my Oceanic 815 drift.
In other March Madness news, they’re halfway through the first round in the drugs versus alcohol bracket. I think Weed is unstoppable in the Illegal Drugs region, should cruise to an easy Final Four berth. But watch out for bourbon in the Hard Alcohol region, badly underseeded as a #5. My dark horse pick to win it all.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
UCLA loses today. they always lose during my birthday week. (95 excluded). It was funner when March madness was in fucking March
Aren’t we in March?
They’ll handle Tulsa. UCLA’s not bad, offense is clicking, they could win a couple this year.
If you think bourbon at 5 is an underseed, how about scotch at 11?!? I have no idea how someone could look at a first round matchup of scotch vs long island ice tea and decide that “just throw whatever we have into a glass with coke” would be the favorite.
LIIT had legions of young stupid people with no palates who like to get drunk on its side. Scotch looks good in the next round too. SoCo? Yuck.
Well it got knocked off in the first round regardless.
Saw that and edited, sorry. On review, the whole hard alcohol bracket was clearly seeded by someone who does not know how to drink.
Amen to that
I liked SoCo when I was 19 and that pretty much sums it up.
Thats too much liking soco for my blood.
I was as young and stupid as you could get and I hated LIIT. I guess I was at least smrt enough to know that if I want booze dont bother getting soda in the way of it. Once you were drunk enough you didnt care that the 151 didnt taste pretty.
If I’m drinking I drink LIITs. JUDGE ME, FUCKERS.
my brother loved them.
How do you justify jack daniels (aka syurp) over absinthe?
Not at all surprising from a popularity contest point of view.
yeah but from an intrinsic value standpoint?
Jack is undrinkable
Intrinsic value is a myth, only market value exists.
thats just factually wrong. The only value something has is what you would pay for it?
Or sell it for.
I wouldn’t have put DFA in the Benjamin Graham/Warren Buffett camp, but I think that’s the argument he’s making. Whereas the llama is building castles in the sky.
I’m pretty sure that llama was being a little tongue-in-cheek.
can you explain how im in the Graham Buffett camp?
Since you’re disputing llama’s assertion that “intrinsic value is a myth” (and I do think llama was kidding), you must subscribe to firm foundation theory. As value investors, the Graham/Buffett approach is to determine the intrinsic value of an asset and buy when the market is undervaluing it.
I can’t say I’ve ever actually read Graham’s original Security Analysis. But other suggested reading on the subject for a modern audience would include:
Burton Malkiel, A Random Walk Down Wall Street
William Bernstein, The Four Pillars of Investing
Michael Lewis, Moneyball
Huh. When FSU mentioned it above, he said bourbon at #5. I agree that JD is a pretty shitty bourbon representative to use. Also (from wikipedia):
Agree. JD is also a shitty whiskey.
Speaking of Bourbon though, have you tried the Costco Bourbon? Pretty decent, especially for the price.
I only restarted drinking bourbon recently, and it’s been Knob Creek. Back when I was in grad school, we typically had three or four different bourbons around the apartment.
Bulleit is my drinking bourbon.
Basil Hayden is my special bourbon.
Breaking and entering and high west are my out and about bourbons
It bothered me that the bracket maker specified a crappy bourbon while she listed others generically like vodka and scotch.
Drinking before noon, eh? This should be an interesting day.
Good Bloomberg summary of what’s currently known about MH370.
so, fire and decompression?
I still think that the course changes before the straight line part suggest deliberate actions. My current theory is that one pilot locked himself in the cabin, set it on a course for the South Pole, and depressurized the plane and killed everyone by hypoxia, maybe or maybe not including himself.
I agree with the pilot suicide theory. All of the mechanical/multiple things going wrong theories require convoluted explanations and scenarios that seem significantly less likely to me than the idea that a pilot would decide to commit suicide and then program a course to one of the most remote regions in the world in order to hide the evidence.
just wondering… what would motivate someone about to commit suicide via plane crash to turn off ACARS or to hide physical evidence? i mean, that’s a little like paying the utility bill before slicing your wrists.
Anything from being able to collect on an insurance policy to protecting himself and his family from the immense shame, I’d imagine. I don’t know. None of us can understand why a person would commit suicide while simultaneously murdering 200 innocent people and yet it’s happened before.
My scorched retinas bid welcome back to the Baylor Bears and their neon yellow unis.
The possible LSD vs. Molly matchup in the next round must present a dilemma.
I’ll be rooting for Weed, Caffeine, Gin, and Red Wine. Not necessarily in that order.
Dogfish Head 90 Minute could have a smooth run for the first few rounds. They’re my dark horse as a 10 seed.
Good call. As the only great beer in the bracket (Sorry Guiness) they could do well.
that is a good matchup
Duke not playing in primetime is the upset of the tournament.
It’s prim,e time here, but I’m getting the rerun of SDSU vs NMSU. Mercer is hanging on, aren’t they?
They’re playing great, strong motion offense, aggressive on-ball defense, matching or exceeding Duke’s tempo.
OK, now we get Stanford
All on livestream at http://www.ncaa.com/march-madness-live also.
Only for Muricans
Damn straight
The correct answer was ‘Fuck yeah!”
I’m normally a defender of all things Gawker Media, but Jezebel is FKing awful.
its in a lull. there are 3 or 4 compilers that are OK to good. the others are group think promotions. ans are terrible.
That’s how I see it too, at times Jez can be really good.
There’s always been way too much of a “look at us, we’re so debauched and edgy” editorial stance for my tastes. At least in the beginning it was presented in the context of “here’s a new perspective on feminism from the younger generation.” Now I can’t figure out what the site’s purpose is other than to hate on female celebrities.
i would agree with this.
It’s certainly in a bad space right now. Definitely still has the potential to put out some good stuff, but that’s getting less and less frequent
In other bracketology, The People in the Trees pull off what has to be considered an upset over The Goldfinch in today’s quarterfinal round of ToB.
also offtopic, i’m calling:
barça — following my heart rather than logic
bayern — after united meets an actual team
real — without breaking a sweat
PSG — coin flip
I think I agree. I haven’t really seen any of Atletico, but just comparing goal difference in La Liga Barca should be favored.
PSG-Chelsea is the one I’m most excited about.
not sure that’s the measure to look at. barça plays clawlessly for three games then scores 7 the 4th. though i think it’s turning around for them psychologically, and that’s what i’m clinging to — another bad measure…
you just want to loooove ibra some more. (and i don’t blame you.)
If loving Ibra is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I’m also interested to see what Mourinho will cook up tactically to try to contain him.
it’ll start with a wide press attack, continue with unfounded jabbing hints, then a stone-wall defense…
oh, you mean during the game.
Nice.
catch it?
mo’s game made sense, cutting off PSG forwards for long stretches, but didn’t pay off. ibra pulled a muscle. (no danger of it keeping him out the WC tho…) pocho did much of the lifting. cavani’s kind of a dunce (yet it only took pastore 5 minutes to explain to him how to score).
I may actually watch the Chelsea game!
You should. Get some Zlatan in your life.
somebody gave the younger one a full Hazard kit.
that’s his favorite apparently.
Whew. Early start in your timezone.
The Goldfinch is good. Reading it now.
I always liked Tartt
Jesus. I just saw the Aroldis Chapman video. That is scary as hell, and I don’t understand how it doesn’t happen all the time.
Mostly because it’s one of about a infinite things that could happen when a ball is struck.
not gonna watch it
Me neither, unless it gets sprung on me by surprise.
I only saw it because sfgate had it auto playing next to an article on the A’s. Thanks, assholes.
I fucking hate the auto play. makes me think twice about suslu links
may 21, 2013
SF gate,
please stop the autoplay videos. please.
they are a nuisance. they distract from reading. they are loud.
they are annoying. they slow everything down. (not to mention they are
utter crap.)
i realize you’d like to think of them as a tool to move readers into
paid subscribership: wanna not be annoyed at us? why, we charge for
that!
won’t work. i hold too much resentment for the chronicle
*because* of the ads. i’d… rather read insidebayarea if this
persists. and i’ll be glad to motivate my friends to join me.
please. stop the autoplay videos.
sincerly,

Hi [AV],
Thank you for writing. Do you recall which video auto-played? They
aren’t supposed to do that? Once we know which one it was, we can check
into it.

Bob

bob, SFgate,
in the attachments, just for you, i’ve circled 4 videos on autoplay in
today’s SFgate. there are more examples to be found. at most levels,
including section pages and the individual articles themselves.
i will not engage in a conversation about how i should set my preferences,
or how i could be hitting mute every single time one comes on, or whatever
other suggestion i am currently anticipating wherein SFgate puts this on
the user. this is on SFgate.
thank you for your attention.
sincerely,
[AV]
is that a question for you or a statement of policy?
…
right?
No?
definitely
have you guys seen the pic of his head?
Pretty much
Gotta wonder how it’ll be for him psychologically whenever he gets back on the mound. A power pitcher is so vulnerable on his follow-through; if you get doubt in your head that could be difficult.
judging from that article over the winter, he doesn’t seem like he thinks like other bears.
My official stance these days is FK the NCAA and their overhyped tournament. That said, Duke losing a first round game in Raleigh? YES PLEASE.
It’s great how the Raleigh crowd is heavily pro-Mercer. Everyone in the South hates Duke.
Not only do we get to watch K and his cultists suffer, but now Jabari Parker is free to get paid!
I delight in every last detail of the misery of Duke.
I love watching K and the mini-Ks (Wojo, Capel etc.) all strike the exact same concerned/pissed pose on the bench.
agreed
First fishing outing of the year today!
What are you fishing for?
Crappie and bass.
Fishing for crappie sounds like something I want no part of.
:-)
It’s fun.
Just a few bass today.
And compliments.
Stanford got out to a huge early lead vs New Mexico and has been slowly giving it back ever since. Kind of an ugly game, but compelling.
Listening at work has been excruciating!
It’s become an excruciating grind of fouls, non-called fouls, reviews and bad announcing, plus both these teams can’t sink a damn thing.
{wipes brow}
As does Johnny Dawkins.
Stanford did not impress though, was very ready to give up that lead and game if NM’s shots in the last 10 minutes hadn’t all been bricks.
Oh for sure. I’m not pinning any wild hopes on the men’s squad. Just hoping to stretch things out as long as possible. Now the Lady Cardinal on the other hand…
No. 44 on La.-Lafayette has the body of a taller Bartolo Colon.
Oklahoma State coaching staff, your synchronized orange ties look stupid.
(Bed begins to sweat profusely)
Well, there goes Furd’s route to the Sweet Sixteen.
And, no more Marcus Smart flops.
Flops isn’t fair, I think his falls were a legit outcome of his reckless linebacker-style of play every time down the court.
Tar Heels! Fuck yes! That was a narrow escape.
yes, the dukenfruede almost sank you
If my reveling in Duke’s misery brought a karmic toll to Carolina, the Heels would have been 0-30 for the last 30 years in a row.
I thought for sure you’d be dead by two this afternoon.
Actually ended up not cracking my first beer until 12:15!
Shame.
See you on Sunday.
I’d be lying if I said I was looking forward to it. Watching big Carolina games is usually a harrowing ordeal for me, win or lose.
If Georges Niang can’t play or is significantly impaired, then ISU will have little chance.
And I feel the exact same way about watching my ‘Clones.
Well shit, he broke his foot. Oh well, another promising season done.
Wait, Virginia’s a #1 seed? WTF? Is it the ’80s again?
Last time Virginia was in the Final Four the #1 song in the nation was Rapture.
Steven F. Austin just sent its game to overtime with a four-point play. Fun game.
What an epically stupid foul to give by the VCU player.
wait, just saw it on deadspin.
That was an grab and flop by the shooter for the ages.
Would be fun if Coastal Carolina and NCCU both made it farther than Duke.
I’d agree with you if NCCU was playing anybody else.
The NCCU point guard has an awesome beard.
Right now I’d have as much chance at making decent contact with a pitch as Cespedes appears to have.
OTOH Sonny Gray’s stuff looks nasty and fortunately he missed on his attempt to barehand a ball hit back up the middle.
Oh geez, Craig Sager.
From the Wizard’s Robe collection of sports jackets.
Or Peter Gabriel in Sledgehammer.
Is Cespedes’ glove getting more cartoonish every season?
this team looks like its going to score 8 runs this season
slow ground ball up the middle, diving “stop” by lowrie, can’t pick it up. Infield single for HECTOR SANCHEZ.
Can we please get a short stop?
This gregerson character looks good.
“of all the letters you don’t want attatched to your name…DFA…”
-Ray Fosse
I’m choosing to believe that half the roster is still hungover from whatever events transpired during yesterday’s off day.
yup
at least it was single A guys that scored the runs on A’s closer Jim Johnson ™. he won’t see those guys in the regular season
And we all know you can’t bring in a closer in a non closing situation.
so, id there an oxygen shortage in the san diego enormo dome where the UCLA game is being played?
also, I am not fan of tank tops, but whats with the tshirts?
That crowd saw the epic Steven F. Austin vs VCU game before this one, so they may be exhausted. Also, LA fans aren’t yet there, not fashionably late enough yet.
Steve Austin University? Are you making this shit up now?
I know if I were going to college in Texas I’d definitely feel like a man barely alive.
I enjoy looking up some of these obscure schools on Google Maps and checking out the satellite view of the town. When I think of a rinky-dink college town Corvallis comes to mind (I’ve never been to Pullman), but boy, spending four of the best years of your life in Nacogdoches seems pretty bleak.
I was thinking of the wrassler.
a university barely alive
can i have $6 million?
is a two hour drive.
I’d forgotten that UCLA has two Carolina defectors on their roster, the Wear twins, who left after a year of sucking/being homesick.
UCLA also has a guy named Wanaah Bail, which is awesome, though no Shitavious Cook or Bamboo Dong.
My all-time favorite, although Iowa State’s Lafester Rhodes is high up there on the name list.
The A’s are on television!
that dude announcer kept on calling sunday’s game the “third” round, no? what the hell?
Yeah, the deal between CBS and the NCAA obligates them to maintain this charade that the four Tues/Weds games constitute a legitimate round and are not “play-in games.” Everyone else on earth called yesterday and today Round 1 and Sat/Sun Round 2.
ah.
just make it a 128 team tournament already
they should do plat twists like top chef. have the loser teams play in secret until the elite 8 and sneak em back in.
Josh Reddick was pulled due to “contact lense complications”.
I’ve known Dukenfreude for years, but on a national level. It for sure intesified this year with ‘Cuse joining the ACC, which makes this gif double fun to watch:
However, Georgetownfreude is still #1, and one has to give it to the Florida Gulf Coast – they know how to express their emotions:
Whoops. How about some BOEHEIMFREUDE? The lass in your avatar could be on the receiving end of some anger tonight.
sorry ec.
i suppose its my turn with steve austin tomorrow
It’s OK, I didn’t stay up for it.
Incredibly, I still get surprised when Syracuse gets upset in the early rounds. Like Charlie Brown versus Lucy and the football. Despite their bad play in the last weeks, I thought they had some wins in ’em.
They got two great open looks at the win in the last 15 seconds and couldn’t hit either. Sucks for me and my #nobodycaresaboutmybracket. Go Dayton!
did I see an 0/9 on 3s before the final shot making it 0/10?
Yup.
If your offense main weapon is Cooney hitting the three, well then…
The lass in my avatar? What is lass, a girl? And what anger?
Sorry, in enjoying the upset I had a bit of a N*** flashback moment. PTSD from the AN days apparently still lingers somewhere deep in the recesses.
so, like, didn’t a baseball season start last night or something?
Just watched the game.
1. The Coliseum has the second-most foul territory of any stadium where major league baseball will be played this year. They did a pretty nice job converting Sydney Cricket Grounds for baseball though. Most of it looks like any modern stadium but there’s a section of grandstand that is reminiscent of Churchill Downs, very cool.
2. Mark Trumbo as your every-day left fielder, Kirk? Uh oh.
3. It’s a good thing Clayton Kershaw is in the other league (duh).
4. Trevor Cahill on the mound Sunday afternoon (tonight) as the D’Backs go for the split.
Yeah, it looked great
2. wow
really bummed about the Skaggs trumbo trade
yeah thats what I said at the time. they rapidly improved their rotation with that trade and lost little when you consider that they need the DH spot for their albatrosses.
He misplayed that ball so badly that he briefly turned Vin Scully into John Sterling. It’s gone! No, it’s off the top of the wall! No, trumbo knocked it back into play! No, he just pulled a Manny Ramirez.
I like the guy in the Dodgers hat raising his arms in a “WTF was that??” gesture
I can’t believe they give him a double for that. That just annoys the hell out of me about the error system in baseball.
From the looks of it, the Coli still has it beat.
4. the oldest baseball stadium still in use in 2014? Sydney Cricket Grounds
Nope, it was this morning
Four minutes before the halftime, Louisville over Saint Louis by two touchdowns over three field goals. I don’t really understand how it pays not to have anyone rebounding the free throws. Also, Hancock has been the most unlikable player for me for a while
Seriously, as much as I dislike Louisville, St. Louis deserves to lose for that free throw rebounding stupidity alone
OTOH, Louisville players are stupid enough to be called for lane violation WITH NO OFFENSE PLAYERS EVEN PRESENT. Tough call this game, tough call
Urban had Vince on his show this morning and led off by asking “You wore a hairpiece for a while on TV , right?” Vince was a pretty good sport about it, said he was emulating Marv Albert.
Ugh.
As Scott Baker struggles to find the plate for the M’s today, it’s looking like the ALW is going to field some godawful rotations, at least to begin the year:
M’s
Felix/Paxton/Ramirez/Baker/Beaven? Wolf?
slegnA
Weaver/Wilson/Richards/Santiago/Blanton? Skaggs?
Rangers
Darvish/Perez/Scheppers/Ogando? Saunders? Lewis? Ross?
I feel quite a bit better about our rotation.
Today’s word is Ogando to the bullpen, Hanson one of the candidates for the last two spots.
Who is getting lit by KC as we write
Now it seems like Darvish will begin the season on the DL with a neck/back issue.
I might be crazy, but it’s looking like the Angels are the strongest team by virtue of simply having the least injuries.
Vogt’s making it really hard for the A’s to send him down.
This Seattle lineup is atrocious even for a split squad game.
Vogt early, Vogt often
This Wisconsin-Oregon game is end-to-end fun. Also visually it’s 1952 versus 2525.
this live streaming everything is great. I hope they are making money (its the ncaa, duh)
wisconsin gettin 4 full offensive plays was a killer
I like that the Australian national anthem, in addition to being short, sounds like a drinking song, easy to imagine a rowdy crowd belting that out in the corner tavern.
The Big 10 dodged one upset there, but here comes Harvard!
Somebody has given in to the darkside
I need security setting help.
i don’t understand it.
I don’t want my other friends to know you exist…uh, mean….
the dodgers are wearing home whites?
That is odd. Was opposite yesterday, correct? Must be about selling more jerseys to Aussies.
Well, both teams should be wearing white, really.
Actually they’re both wearing home uniforms today. The D’Backs are wearing the home white trousers with the black alt jerseys. Yes, the Dodgers did wear the road greys yesterday.
Trevor Cahill is pretty meh regardless.
This has not been an exemplary display of the sport of Base Ball for our Aussie friends. The A’s games in Tokyo in recent years have been much better presentations.
brandon fucking moss
Rotation in order: Gray, Kazmir, Chavez, Straily, Milone.
Cook and Gentry officially starting year on DL.
Split squad games today.
The home game vs. the Cubs is televised on WGN.
So the 25 looks like:
C Jaso
C Norris
1B Barton
1B Moss
IF Lowrie
IF Callaspo
IF Sogard
IF Punto
3B Donaldson
OF Crisp
OF Cespedes
OF Fuld
OF Reddick
SP Gray
SP Kazmir
SP Chavez
SP Straily
SP Milone
RP Johnson
RP Gregerson
RP Doolittle
RP Otero
RP Scribner
RP Abad
RP Lindblom
What is Barton’s role on that team? I’d Vogt for somebody else for #25.
He makes it because he’s out of options and Vogt isn’t. Also, Moss is pretty poor defensively.
My thought is that against RH SP you might want to DH Jaso and catch Vogt. If you want to pinch-hit Norris for Vogt late in the game you can do that without fear of either losing the DH or (shudder) putting Donaldson behind the plate.
We did see the defensive improvement when Barton played 1B and Moss was in RF late in the season, but with a healthy Reddick that isn’t happening, and anyway Barton didn’t last very long once we got to the ALDS.
We know Barton can clear waivers; the slight risk of losing him is that he sees an opportunity in another organization and opts to sign a minor league contract elsewhere.
It seems like they think
1B Barton
DH Moss
C Jaso
is better overall than
1B Moss
DH Jaso
C Vogt
I’m not certain Barton can clear waivers again given his mini resurgence last year so I can understand the team’s logic in avoiding the risk of losing players as much as possible especially at the beginning of the season.
I’m tempted to go to FK’s never-used polling function to ask the question you pose there. I’d prefer the second even if you’re right about the risk of losing Barton.
It actually wouldn’t surprise me if Barton ends up starting at 1B more or less full time, with Moss and Callaspo platooning at DH.
It partly depends on how they use Jaso, which is still not really clear to me. If Jaso is mostly a DH, then there is a lot less use for Barton, and a lot more use for Vogt.
It’s even less clear to me what Fuld’s role is, apart from pinch-running. As a good defensive outfielder and a LHB he is awfully redundant on this team. Obviously our starting OF are all injury risks, so I get wanting to keep him around as insurance, but it doesn’t seem like he’ll ever get in the lineup if they’re healthy.
They want to keep Fuld in the organization for CF depth because there isn’t any in AAA. He makes the team now so they can bypass the opt out, and then gets optioned out when Gentry is ready which could be as soon as April 5th.
It looks like if Fuld wants to opt out, he will still be able to do so if he clears waivers and gets outrighted, since he has > 3 years service time.
I agree with your point about wanting to put off those sort of risks for as long as possible, though, since other injuries may happen.
Wait, so Fuld will still have to be exposed to waivers if they want to send him down after the opt out date?
I think so. He was optioned in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Incidentally…what’s the deal with Fernando Rodriguez? Your list shows that he would have an option left but in the Drumbeat today Slusser said he was out of options. If he goes to Sacramento on rehab, is there a deadline?
Don’t know. TSN shows the same info I had. He was also optioned in 2011, but it was < 20 days, so should not count. There is some limit on rehab assignments - 30 days for pitchers, according to wikipedia.
I see. I was under the impression they were keeping Fuld over Taylor, because Fuld can still be kept in the organization after Gentry gets back but I guess not. Now I don’t see why they picked up Fuld in the first place.
Lindblom not Savery? I thought they wanted Lindblom to start…
Josh Sale seems like a nice guy
Wow Batgirl! That men’s team has some skills too, turns out. Huge win.
Barf. I’m fine with hoping the Pac-12 team kicks the Big Ten’s butt in the Rose Bowl, but this here is more like watching the Giants advance to the NLCS.
That’s funny, do you feel that same way about other Pac-12 hoops tourney teams (Oregon, Arizona, etc)? Or just ‘Furd? For me, I want Duke to lose 100% of the time, but I’m happy to climb on the Virginia or NC State bandwagons.
Basketball is way less important to me than football, so the conference pride I feel about football doesn’t carry over. Seeing a Pac-12 team in the Final Four (which rarely happens anyway) doesn’t mean anything to me one way or the other because I’m fully invested in the A’s season by then.
I’ve let college basketball go to the point where I don’t learn of cal results until days later if at all, and yet it still makes me ill when Stanford succeeds.
I love seeing Rock Choke Jayhawk go down, regardless of opponent.
Oh hell yes!!!!!
Woo! Go Cardinal!
anyone else excited about the spanish classic, starting in 25 mins?
barça looks sharp and hungry.
Jesse Chavez also looks sharp.
2 Ks in the first, hitting the corners.
it’s on TV?
WGN (75 and 775 for me)
streamtorrent ≠mac, for me.
oh wait. found it.
who is #29?
FULD
don’t be mad. i have to build my excitement from the ground up.
you could argue he looks hungry as well.
I’m not watching, but sitting on the Bill King Deck listening to Ken and Ray wax nostalgic about Phoenix Muni on the day of their final broadcast from there. I’m not shedding tears or anything and I’m sure Hohokam Park will be nicely fixed up next year, but it’s out in the nondescript suburbs, where Phoenix Muni and the immediate surroundings have real character.
Yup, wonderful environs at Phoenix Muni. Made me want to go climb on the rocks behind LF after the game. Except for the 110° part.
He’s facing the C squad of a team that regularly has problems fielding an actual A squad but he really does look great. All his pitches have a ton of movement and he’s throwing them where he wants to. Hopefully, this translates into the regular season.
this game is scorchin’.
benzemá vence más.
OMG, whatta half.
FK RC7. just FK him. and the ref too.
k martino, you tried with neymar. now try something else.
whew… thanks for waiting till he drew the penalty…
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
even if the ref got the assist on 2 or 3 of those goals…
Wichita State and Kentucky exchanging haymakers, huge shots, much fun.
Too early for a whassamatah wi’ Timmy? Never too early, I say.
I just want to know if we are going to be forced to suffer through 6 months of radio ads exhorting us to root for “Mad Bum.” Lamest name-shorten nickname ever.
Well Jesse is looking less awesome now.
He went from painting the corners and keeping all of his pitches down in innings 1-5 to throwing nothing but hanging breaking balls in inning 6.
If this were a regular season game I would be pissed right now.
12 baserunners in 5 innings against Hammel, but only two of them score.
Then Chavez gets tired in the top of the sixth, leaves some pitches up, a couple balls find holes, finally back-to-back homers, and “just like that” the A’s are down 5-2.
Profar out 10-12 weeks with a torn muscle in his shoulder.
Rangers can just slide Prince Fielder over to 2B.
Neighborhood play now to be calculated on the Richter scale.
this made me laugh aloud
Drat.
Well, now that Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse are all gone, ESPN can focus on the YANKEES, the RED SOX and TIM TEBOW!
With Florida and Arizona as the star attractions, ESPN can continue its slow transition into the AARP Sports Network.
Aren’t you a fucking sweetheart
empathetic :(
Sorry Upgrade :(
I honestly did not watch this game. I get nervous and irritable (putting it mildy), so I was playing MarioKart with little miss special K.
Also, I figured the ‘Clones had zero chance without Niang.
Also also, W00T!!1!
They played well, especially Kane who was unconscious, hitting everything, made great plays all game long.
I wasn’t expecting to win…have Iowa St in #noonecaresaboutmybracket. Carolina mostly played well today too, but Iowa State was clearly better.
sorry fsu
Thank goodness both fucla and Furd can’t make the Final Four together. God would that be insufferable.
what do you do when they meet? for the round of 8, or the 5th round of the tournament?*
*hypothetical, UCLA hasn’t beaten Fla sin 1965.
If I HAD to choose one over the other…
The UCLA basketball tradition (I know they’re on about their 15th coach since Mr. Wooden) representing the Pac-8/10/12 vs. the despicable red of Furd, that’s pretty easy.
and a single championship
Sorry Creighton, those awful home grey uniforms mean you go home now. I like this Baylor team, they could keep winning awhile.
was at GGpark this afternoon. there was a group of picnicers using the third base line of one of the baseball fiels as a cricket pitch.
They gave me some add looks when I started yelling “SIX!” when I guy hit one far.
I talked to them later, they were using a heavy tennis ball for their ball and were not serious. but it looked like a ton of fun.
So I went to Phoenix Muni for the last time today. Sat in the third row slightly offset behind home, so I may have been on TV but couldn’t confirm. Chavez looked real nice until he hit a wall and everything was getting crushed. Junior Lake killed all 3 of his homers. A’s had like 5 shots to the warning track. Lowrie’s error was actually a pretty decent play that Moss couldn’t dig.
I threw for the radar gun for the first time in a long while and nearly threw my arm out, but got a respectable 73. I could be Wakefield without the knuckle!
Ken signed my book yesterday and I got a picture. Always fun. Rollie, Blue Moon Odom, and a couple of others (including Fergie Jenkins today) spent all 9 innings signing stuff for charity on the concourse. Can only imagine how quickly that becomes tiring.
Jealous!!! Sounds like a great day.
This made me forget I stopped thinking he was cute a few years ago.
I still love Swisher. I love pretty much any ballplayer who is willing to be a little bit different than the norm unless he is a dick or plays for the Angels.
Mike Polk! Love that guy.
I suppose (non-Yankee) Nick is OK too.
Tech note: For some reason this comment went into the moderation queue, even though he has previous comments.
Might have something to do with the difference between “contributor” and “subscriber” status.
Also, while looking at that, I notice that we have over 100 “subscribers.”
Two have commented, another two or three have added a picture or real name, so might also be real. The rest mostly have hotmail email addresses with a few yahoo ones thrown in. I would guess these are attempted spam accounts. (If I’m wrong, speak up, all you lurkers from hotmail).
I did recently change my email. Could be related to that.
Yes, spammers often re-use the same e-mail address. Plugging the e-mail address for subscriber “AshleigS04” into the search function at StopForumSpam.com yields 161 reports of spamming since February 12.
“If that wasn’t a fastball it was a very-bloody-rapid one.”
This is excellent.
That was awesome.
He should be hired to write every post-game article
quick! let him know there’s a place where he could write a bunch for free, on quota and on deadline, then if he’s lucky and passes the rigors of not getting too banned or too pissed (US definition), maybe someday get noticed, picked up, and paid for it!!
It totally works! My roommate’s brother’s friend struck it big writing for that site!
Too prolix.
The A’s are sending a hilariously bad team to face Texas today:
“Murphy” could be some guy they pulled off the street for all I know.
This is like a “Fuck You, We’re not going to help you prepare for the regular season” line up.
They’re also sending Sonny Gray to pitch in a AAA game on Wednesday instead of facing the Angels.
Yeah, but that’s because the AAA team they’re facing is better than anything the Angels could put out there.
I don’t get why they schedule games against divisional opponents in the last couple weeks of spring training. There are 14 other teams in the Cactus League (well, 12, excluding the Dodgers and Diamondbacks) and 11 (9) of them aren’t in the AL West.
Joe Maddon’s the best, as usual. With bonus angry Mark Ellis.
THEN DON’T SUCK!
It’s Bob Nightengale. Can we actually believe anything he twits?
Well, the A’s did get approval to move to San Jose two years ago, right?
Among other things, yes.
oh boy, rangers….
top of the first, melvin with the challenge. he loses
I’d assume that in the regular season they’ll have a good signaling system set up to let Melvin know whether to use a challenge, especially that early in the game. Apparently it will be a new managerial arguing technique to “turn the umpire” so that his back is to the dugout and the manager, while stalling by arguing, can look over his shoulder and get the thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
My understanding is you can’t have them review after you argue the call.
You can still argue, but as before you can’t argue after the review has been completed (which is why Angel Hernandez immediately ejected Melvin from the game in Cleveland).
The way the Cardinals describe it:
Jim Callis’ A’s Top 20 prospects plus another five. I learned that Billy McKinney “reminds [the A’s] of Mark Kotsay with less arm strength.”
and power.
damn, I always forget about mckinney. I thought you were making fun of him for comparing billy BURNS to mark Kotsay
Korach is certainly rooting for that guy to make it.
He says that the A’s will make Ynoa a fulltime reliever going forward. Is that official? It’s probably inevitable given the need to get his ass to the bigs before he runs out of options.
According to interviews with Fuson and Zaidi (both here) it sounds like he will at least start the year out of the bullpen, but longer term it’s still up in the air.
One guy I never see mentioned on prospect lists:
RHP Tanner Peters
As you can see from his listed size, he has an incredibly small frame for a starter, but the numbers remind me of Griffin and Straily before they really broke out.
The guy who’s pitching today, Sean Murphy, is not so bad either. He can contribute this year if he breaks out in AAA.
6’0″, 155 lb. That’s seems impossible.
I could be six inches taller and weigh they same!
That is me, more or less. I’m usually closer to 160 than 155, but I was 135 in high school (at the same height).
On the other hand, I think the hardest I can throw a baseball is probably 55 mph.
yeah, this is an ok line up, Andrus, fielder beltre martin. He seems OK.
Athletics.com also has no idea who he is. Today’s pitcher is listed as “Smith, M,” who turns out to be another minor leaguer named Murphy Smith.
and the black guy football player=Ray Lankford
More pop than a HOF shortstop with a career .295/.371/.444 line? Well jeez, let’s get him up in June.
It could be .220/.290/.380
Interesting to note that McKinney will be starting at Stockton this year, according to Melissa Lockard. He finished last season in short season ball.
I guess they heard DFA’s criticism of him being 19 already and decided they had to jump the kid a level.
Finally someone is listening to me!
[runs and hides]
So I went to a brewery today to buy some surplus kegs they were selling off as part of my scheme to ramp up production; the deal they offered was $40 each for 4 or 5 for $150. Hmmm.
naw man. I’ll just get 4
which brewery?
Steelhead in Burlingame.
Decent IPA they make, if you have the space its a deal, they even stack nicely!
I’ll trade some of them with a welder I know to make the others into keggles.
So, sounds like they’re declaring the Flight 370 mystery solved on account of math. It’s awkward and unsatisfying, like the end of the UNC-Iowa State game.
Not sure if you heard the audio from the press conference, whew man, that was hard to listen to…
More than two weeks of confusion and anguish for those families, I can’t even imagine how hard it must be.
Good news: Plumber hooked up the gas line for me so I can run the clothes dryer and do laundry. Yay!
Bad news: I’m a fucking idiot and forgot to put the drain hose for the washer into the laundry sink and got to spend some quality time with the mop. Sigh.
Thanks, and go As.
I rented a house once that had a gas hookup but no dryer vent, spent several years having to run a long vent hose out the back door every time I did laundry.
So it sure sounds like a Callaspo/Barton platoon at first with Moss the DH. Ideally, I’d like to see Cespedes and Crisp take turns as the DH against lefties once Gentry is back.
callaspo looked bad at first
and later?
they don’t sell good-at-catching-balls-thrown-to-you goggles.
Yep, Alberto Callaspo might be on the smaller side for a first baseman – 5-foot-9 or thereabouts – but he will be Oakland’s first baseman when the team faced left-handed starters.
Barton has a .001 OPS advantage against RHP, .698 to .697
aaaaaaaannnnnnndddd then???
Barton vs LHP: .281/.386/.433
Callaspo vs LHP: .300/.346/.420
wut.
Thanks, and go As.
Food for StatGuy thought: If two guys (one lefty, one righty) have similar numbers in a particular platoon situation, wouldn’t it be better to use the pitcher’s splits to determine which one you use? The theory being, if the pitcher does worse against righties, the guy batting righty would have an advantage even though their individual stats against that pitcher’s type are the same? In other words, is it the individual splits themselves or the combination of splits that matter most?
I like this.
Wild guess, but I’d assume it would have to be a pretty significant split, especially in this specific scenario when Barton has an .819 OPS and Callaspo’s is .766
Thanks, and go As.
A lefty pitcher that does well against lefties, I’d rather have the righty bat against him if they anywhere near close.
but that’s the thing. Lefty pitchers tend to do well against lefty hitters, which is why Barton’s reverse split is somewhat rare
Thanks, and go As.
So?
So the whole point it’s it’s not really that close?
Thanks, and go As.
Just because Barton’s reverse splits are rare doesn’t by itself make him necessarily better. A lefty pitcher who does well against lefties is more likely to negate any gain Barton nets in that split, particularly if the pitcher does poorly against right handed hitters.
I never said that it did make him better. The numbers show he’s better, regardless of handedness.
Again, you’re ignoring that basically EVERY lefty pitcher does better against lefties. The whole concept of LOOGY pitchers, etc.
Thanks, and go As.
I’m not ignoring it at all. Some of those pitchers have much bigger splits than others. So it’s altogether possible that against the one’s who have very weak splits, Barton does well. And against those that have extreme splits, he does poorly. In other words, his reverse split oddity is more a product of his competition when he’s been inserted into a the lineup against a lefty rather than some exceptional ability he inherently has against lefties. So you’d see that split fall quickly and dramatically if he faced all lefties.
lol okay man. Barton sucks, whatever.
Thanks, and go As.
I don’t think that’s what dmoas is saying at all. Let’s assume Barton hits for a 125 wRC+ against lefties in general as does Callaspo. (125 number pulled from thin air).
Let’s also assume we have a LHP A and a LHP B. Both have FIP- of 100. However they do it differently. LHP A has a FIP- of 100 against both RHB and LHB. LHP B has a FIP- of 120 vs RHB and 80 against LHB.
Against LHP A, we don’t care who bats, since both batters hit equally well against lefties and LHP A is equal against both LHB and RHB.
However, Dmoas is suggesting that if we face LHP B who is quite good against LHP, we should send out a righty given that your two hitters hit lefties equally well. You are playing to the pitchers’ weakness rather than the hitters’ strength.
Of course, this becomes a whole lot more complicated when we don’t have everyone’s true talent splits.
That’s the whole thing. The sample sizes are getting smaller and smaller here.
Thanks, and go As.
Right. So in the case of small samples, look at both players in a more general form. Righties traditionally being better, lefties not so much. That being said, if we face a lefty with a weird platoon split, I’m all for sending Barton in there. As am I if he’s simple hot in general and Callapso isn’t.
That is exactly how strat-o-matic works
Yeah, if they’re insistent on a RH bat to platoon at first base, I’d rather it be someone who can hit very well if they’re going to suck defensively.
Could both teams lose the Manchester derby please?
oh, i dont know. it’s making for fine post-op viewing. then again, the percocet is totally flowing…
wow united really sucks.
Milone is having a frustrating outing.
HR to Phillips, lots of hits, walks, balls in general.
3-3 (moss 3 run hr of jeff francis)
ends with one walk one k. seemed like a lot of balls though
OK, this I actually like.
Thanks, and go As.
Meh. He’ll just talk about the Giants.
And the NFL.
So what. He’s ridiculously well spoken and if he doesn’t have a future somewhere as a broadcaster or color guy someone will eat a hat.
Thanks, and go As.
I would rather have him than hatteberg*
*note, I don’t have cable.
kind of them to give the exact times so no one has to listen a minute longer than necessary.
Has Jon Heyman been a parodist all along, and I’m only noticing it now?
Like the decrepit veteran, I gave it one last shot this spring training, but as I thought at the end of last season it’s clear that I’m ready to go back to the pre-AN days of uncluttered A’s fandom, that being watching the games, listening to the radio broadcasts, reading a story or two in the paper the next day, maybe chatting about it with a buddy at the brewpub…and not getting involved in Internet discussions. Those of you who have been here all winter, plus the group who will rejoin on Monday, I’ve enjoyed spending the time with you (well, usually).
Best wishes and Go A’s!Have a great season, and maybe I’ll drop in once in a while, probably to moan about replay.Oh no! I think this leaves me as the only person who will defend Cotroneo as a mediocrity rather than an abomination. I may not be up to that task. Hope you’ll drop by more than just once in awhile, but in any case,
best wishes and Go A’sfuck the Giants.Don’t be a stranger. When you miss us and decide to drop in, we’ll still be here, having the same discussions.
but this is a brew pub, on line…or something
Will miss you. Make sure to say hi when you lurk
I’ll lurk for a while at least. Some habits are hard to break.
There was something I forgot in the farewell message. nevermoor has done an awesome job in the last five years keeping the site up and running through some flows of bullshit both shallow and deep. My name was on at least some of the crap. Thank you, Frank.
Sorry to hear that but I know how it goes. I think we’re moving in opposite directions – I pretty much took the hot stove season off, but as the season nears I’m more inclined to engage again. I hope you check in at least from time to time, and would love to see you at a tailgate again this year.
Jonah Keri AMA. Lots o’ Expos talk if you’re into that kind of thing.
I’m gonna predict that KPFA doesn’t have the ability to absorb yet another of these idiotic and childish internal pissing matches before it flatlines forever.
KPFA has some great music programming that just can’t be found anywhere else, so I hope you’re wrong, but it does seem close to the breaking point.
I read some background on this one earlier today.
On some of the previous childish internal pissing matches I couldn’t even figure out which side I would want to support. In this case, it seems the barricader is part of the 9/11 truther and miracle vitamin cure for cancer crowd (which seem to be mercifully mostly absent from KPFA but apparently have a significant presence on other Pacifica stations), while her opponents have the support of both the old left political types and of pretty much all the music programmers that I like. So I hope that the relatively sane people can hold off the nutters.
Goddamn, that’s a much more grim assessment than I realized, makes it sound like Pacifica’s death is inevitable, and coming fast. I’d be interested to hear EM’s thoughts, but my guess might be that KPFA has enough local support to make a go at it independently, if freed from the national network’s troubles, like:
And:
I’ve never been any closer to KPFA than the Brazilian pizza joint down the street, and the only person in that article who I’ve ever met is one of the former board members who used to be my cat sitter. So I don’t know any more than anyone else. It’s definitely not good that they aren’t even getting their basic CPB grants because they couldn’t get their act together to fill out the paperwork. Their audience is aging and not growing (although it is extremely loyal, which is their greatest strength). The most optimistic thing I can say is that I’ve been hearing forecasts of Pacifica’s implosion since 1999, so the fact that they’re still around says something.
Yikes.
They have a bunch of vitamin programing on down in la
I know squat shit about international soccer, and I vaguely root for Arsenal for no good reason*, and don’t even really know the context here, but this is still hilarious:
* When I lived in LA this British guy Simon became my pal, and because I was an A’s fan he decided it would be fun to become an Angels fan for shit-talking purposes. Ha ha ha. Since he was a Tottenham guy I was compelled, then, to root for Arsenal out of spite.
That’s painful even without looking at the scoreline and the time on the clock.
the gif’s not live. 2-2 was the final. still…
Literally history.
Thanks, and go As.
neat.
yeah
Salaries.
Reclamation time, Billy!
Thanks, and go As.
We could have created that 2006 rotation this offseason: Zito, Haren, Harden, Loaiza, Blanton.
Heck, even Hudson, Harang, and Mulder were available, if all partially to totally broken. Hello, 2003.
Ted Lilly too.
Relevant:
naturally
yay
I like this. That’s the exact kind of low risk depth the A’s need right now
CUPCAKES
how did the A’s get him to sign a minor league deal? Showed him a map of ho clse napa was to sacto
He is close enough to eat your letters, bud!
buried punchline: “If not, the plan may be to pave the way for Major League Baseball to force a sale of the team.”
They can’t. At most MLB can say you can’t go to SJ. And even that’s a little legally tricky, meaning, they just sit on any future requests to do so. The whole HT group is highly delusional and/or attempting to sell snake oil.
so… trying to be gender-sensitive here… what would a woman douchebag be? i’m thinking, a sidewalk condom. you know… tied-off and full of
slocumitself.?Uh, yeah, just like him.
SHE IS HOLDING OFF A ROW OF KNOCKOFF T-54s WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A TINY REMOTE MONITOR WITH ZERO BATTERY LIFE!!!
Just, Wow…
She would have been better served if this video never surfaced, she was fucking taunting them!
It’s mind-numbing that she can toss around accusations of ‘hate crime’ whilst repeatedly calling people bitch and white trash herself? Interesting news about the multiple restraining orders too, hrm.
The last 10 seconds of the video pretty much sums it all up for me.
can we just stop caring?
This is my tack to things like this
this. She’s a troll.
Oh I don’t care. It’s just difficult to mock her properly without linking the article and hashing it out.
right, but ugggg
no. no we cannot.
I am a total believer in face computer. I expect we will all have a face computer soon.
there needs to be a social compact o how to use the face computer. she is exhibit A of how not to use one. she should be vilified and held up as a terrible terrible example.
Oh I agree. Im just saying, stop feeding the troll. Assholes will be assholes.
and really, everyone seemed to be minding their own business until she started
flickingflipping them off.Sure they may have taunted her before she started recording, but they all went back to minding her own business.
that’s exactly what DFA is saying!!
their
Sad the bartender lost her job for quite reasonably mocking that stooge…
If she was following the rule of law this video would have never surfaced, pantomimes unite!
I don’t know from nothing, but I bet another place would take her in because of her face computer stance
At least they didn’t go for Rosa Parks.
Are we to believe that this person actually makes a living as a “social media consultant.” Do people pay her to make sure everybody hates them?
Hee
LOL
Jeez, how are they going to sub people into the game!
Pretty shitty, Mariners.
right?
Ugh, good man.
Because Giants fans don’t look ridiculous enough as it is…
you buy a hat like this, i bet you get a free bowl of candyflip, huh?
Oh, but it looks good on you..
win so much win
what the fuck?
Is it orange? is the picture bad? Why is it yellow?
If Mike’s girlfriend wears that to the tailgate party I may have to mock her after all.
So would I.
Thanks, and go As.
Rangers are seriously going to great lengths to get our former castoffs
Oopsie.
This is a fantastic humblebrag from “Shrimp Boy” Chow:
Like so many greats before him, he just couldn’t manage to go out on top I guess.
Shrimp Boy Chow’s would have been a good name for a food truck.
real goes down in sevilla, and falls to 3rd with barça and atlético winning their games.
Liverpool hang on and go back to 2nd, 1 point behind Chelski, while City still have 2 games in hand.
go reds!
(am i doing it right?)
Come on you Reds/You’ll never walk alone would be the preferred chants, but it’ll do.
LOL, right when the commentary guy is saying “some folks may be talking that Messi’s beginning to lose some of his powers” he does THIS
Thanks, and go As.
Of course he’ll do that if you only have five guys marking him.
did those same folks not watch the game on sunday?? he destroyed.
Unions
One of the fan chants at Northwestern is “Go U-NU.” I guess we were actually chanting “Go Union-U.”
More fitting than the other popular NU fan chant of “That’s alright, that’s OK, you’re gonna work for us some day.”
Yep. I never liked that one, or the “State School” chant whenever there was a misplay by the other team. Because, y’know, Northwestern never made any mistakes on the field.
Dammit, I miss soaker already.
Anyone know if tonight baseball match is subject to blackout on mlb.tv?
My guess since it’s ST, no.
My guess since it’s MLB, yes.
suppose I will find out
and… cue.
neat. neat. neat.
Until you turn the TV on, it is both subject to and not subject to blackout.
certainly!
Schrodinger’s A’s Game.
Tonight’s game is on free TV, channel 11, if you have an antenna.
whoa. new tourney. euro nat’ls are gonna be tired. i’m gonna be jealous.
We need a CONMEBOL + CONCACAF version of this.
no doubt.
Doesn’t it just replace the existing friendlies, so no extra games?
I love the idea of an international competition with promotion/relegation, though all the league winners qualifying for the European Cup is a bit odd … I can imagine teams trying to get relegated to qualify from an easier league.
Presumably, though, with 24 teams qualifying for the Euros, almost all of the top division will manage to qualify through the traditional qualifying round. The odd top division team that doesn’t qualify might then make it in by default.
Wait, now I’m confused. According to the BBC (AV’s link):
But according to the Guardian:
That’s not the same thing at all.
Guardian link
my best guess: “Uefa is still finalising the details.”
no extra games, just the extra intensity of games that count!
(i’m going by what i read.)
And of course we all know what happened last time there was a League of Nations.
We take our ball and go home?
So, um, Miguel Cabrera just got FKing paid.
Thanks, and go As.
Without looking, I’m going to take a wild guess and say the Tigers screwed themselves on the back end of that contract. Royally.
Fuck me. They screwed themselves on the front end of that too. Holy shit. 10/300.
I mean, he still has 2 years left on his current contract.
and they didn’t wanna pay Scherzer…
Thanks, and go As.
I hope they die regretting that. And soon. One thing is for certain. There’s absolutely no fking way we could possibly do even half that.
Or Fister
So much weird.
They were negotiating against themselves, and they drive a hard bargain.
Cut them some slack. You know how it goes, you hear through the rumor mill that someone else is about to offer him something big so you know you have to step up your game and come in with something bigger. Only then you hear someone else is coming in bigger so you go even bigger. Before you know it, your throwing out 300 million over 10 years. Sure, you later find out that each of those rumors were about your own offers. But you can’t take the chance someone will throw in a surprise bid on a guy currently under contract.
Wow. I’m not going to calculate out how many ABs that’s projecting, but that’s pretty insane.
Thanks, and go As.
Do you have plans over the weekend to knee cap the other guy?
Sorry, batgirl. At least making the Sweet Sixteen should silence all the Dawkins critics.
this comment made me look up the fla/ucla game.
I was busy watching spring training baseball
:(
I had Thanksgiving dinner with a player from the Montgomery era who is among a group of alums actively pushing to get Dawkins out. (Surprising to me was that he was also fairly lukewarm on Montgomery.) Don’t think this will change his mind, but Muir seems pretty set on keeping him. Our incoming freshman class looks pretty solid.
Fallon tonight: Stanford students haven’t been so disappointed since they found out they didn’t get into Harvard.
LOL
well, crap
Yes! It’s been a while since we’ve had enough active threads for you to strut your crazy stuff, and I’ve missed it.
vin scully* calls an earthquake.
*When My mom was young, she thought his name was Vince Kully
Kind of impressive that a 5.3 quake didn’t cause any delay at all, not even a few extra seconds between pitches.
Also that video reminded me how much I like Dodger Stadium, I need to get back to a game there sometime, it’s been since 1989 for me.
I thibnk its been downgraded to 5.1. So not a really big one. And it was from about 40 miles away. I don’t remember ESS15 very well so I can’t tell you more about it.
It shook pretty good we were in a basement and felt it for a while
If the basement is a-rocking, don’t bother knocking…
it was a bar… and im pretty sure the bartendress was hitting on my gf
The preferred term is Bartendrix.
im down with that
