New business (the tickets we are starting with).
As always, there is nothing special about these tickets except that I can give them to you in paper format and they are currently reserved. You can use the tickets you purchased in any combination to any game. I just need three days notice to request the tickets you want. That said, as usual I’m asking who wants the days we currently have, so that I don’t turn in tickets that someone wants (an extension of the first point is that multiple people can have the same game, we’ll just need to flip a coin to see who gets current tix and who gets other tix).

    As usual I’ll wait to decide how to use my tickets until much later.

    Since our default list of games above has just about all the weekends on it, we’ll probably need to forgo one of those in favor of the suite day, unless folks want to have the suite day on a weeknight. Actually, I could see the upside to having suite day coincide with a high demand giveaway day, like the 4/19 Donaldson bobblehead, since it would provide a comfortable place to chillax after going inside extra-early.

    Also, the suite day should be a stand-alone, not combined with an FK Day tailgate this time.

      Given that we need to make the request this month, I’m going to make a tentative call.

      The only games meeting current criteria are 5/11 (Nats), 7/6 (Jays), 7/20 (Os), 8/24 (LAA), 9/6-7 (Astros), and 9/20-21 (Phillies). All at 1pm.

      5/11 is probably too soon, 7/4 is a holiday and people might have plans, and I think September is too late.

      How about 7/20 against the Raging Balfours?

        18 seats for $200, up to six additional tickets can be purchased ($35 each) for a per-ticket price of $11 – 17 (plus any fees). The A’s would very much like us to buy food, which gives you the additional tix. free along with popcorn, peanuts, salad, hot dogs (w/kraut), carnitas nachos, soda, water for $545 (total per ticket is $31).

        I vote we do as last time: no food, and split per ticket cost evenly no matter where we land on the 18-24 ticket spectrum. First served are the folks in the ST pool, but others can jump in if we don’t fill up.

    Last call on the tickets through the Giants series. I’m taking a short vacation soon, so plan to turn in all the tickets through 7/8 tonight unless there are takers. Also, now would be a good time to put in requests through that point, if any. Keep in mind you can absolutely have games where the initial tickets are taken (for example, if you want to boo the Giants you should not feel limited to the one posted pair of tickets).

    So, an odd thing happened last night.

    I showed up with the actual ticket for last night’s game. It was hand delivered to me opening night by nm. It has never been emailed. I never loaded into myathleticstickets account. the two tickets were never ripped apart until after I got past security.

    Upon being scanned, I was denied entry and told to go to customer service. there, the helpful agent took the tickets and my ID. he came back with newly printed tickets (not the pretty ones, boo) and a receipt with my name on it. The first name was “ed” not “edward” on the receipt, which I think is significant as its the name on my myastickets account, not, naturally, my CADL.

    He explained that since the tickets were emailed also, I had to use the emailed tickets (or change them at customer relations). I didn’t stick around to argue because I had my valid ticks and the game was starting.

    Further, I got denied entry to the season ticket holder line. which was totes bullshit since I had already gotten past security once and had fking season tickets in my hand. But I think the printed ticket fooled the guy.

    Anyway, just a warning to get there a little early in case anyone has the same problem.

      Emailing them was my mistake. I panicked the other day when they were still showing as unsent in my account, and thought I’d dropped the ball locking you out of the game. Forgot that I had handed them off.

          It makes sense to me, it’s most simple for the team if they automatically deem printed tickets void once the same tickets have been emailed to someone.

              I think they’ve changed systems (either between seasons or more recently).

              I used to get emails when transfers were “accepted” but don’t anymore. Which may mean that they killed that step.

        Yes, but only with the credits for the ST plan (which messes up the counting because each person’s two tickets are something like $90 in value whereas this would be $28 per). So we wouldn’t wind up with zero credit at the end of the year (which, I’m sure, is why the A’s can make the offer).

        That’s how I read it. Basically, for rounding purposes your 1 game could be converted into three of those tickets.

    So it looks like the A’s are allowing me to buy up to 4 post season strips.

    I’m not really sure what to do with that, since the nature of these things is that they are near-impossible to split up equitably. That said, it would be a shame to let two of the four go unused just because two is my limit. So I guess the thing to do is to see whether any of you want the other two. If there’s <= one taker, it's easy. If more, we'll have to figure something out. Just know going in that I have absolutely no idea how that "figure something out" piece can be done fairly. Also, the official deadline is 9/5, but last year it was first-come-first-served within sections.

      If no one else is interested I would loke to look at 1-2 strips. But knowing that I would have to travel far and the cost is tight for me, I say that I am at the bottom of the “figure something out” list. I let others take it if they are going to be able to get to all the games, etc.

          Partial plan holders are guaranteed a maximum of 4 postseason strips. Partial plan holders who commit to a 2015 Full Season or Half Season package can secure up to 4 additional 2014 Postseason Strips.

          but from the FAQ

          Partial plan holders (Sac Fly, Fielder’s Choice and Hit & Run) who commit to a 2015 Full Season or Half Season package can secure up to 4 additional 2014 Postseason Strips at the base price.

          so that looks like up to 4 at a discount (and is that regardless of the number of seats in your plan or 4 per seat?) + up to 4 more at full price if you sign up for a 2015 full/half-season plan.

          And then there’s the situation for full-season holders like the front row seats.

          From the FAQ:

          Grand Slam and On Deck Season Ticket Holders are eligible to purchase a maximum of 4 bonus strips. Bonus strips are seated in the order received and are subject to availability. Please note, bonus strips will be priced at the base price.

          but I can’t find anything about the number of non-bonus strips allowed at the discount.

            I just logged into my account to see, and it’s showing a “pending” order for two strips to renew, and no option to buy more.

            So maybe the “guaranteed a maximum of 4 postseason strips” means we get 2 b/c two seats, and if we had 6 seats we’d only get four.

    As mentioned in passing Saturday, now confirming in writing: Please use all 8 of my available season seats for the Fri Sept 19 game vs Phillies. I’m sure the seat selection will be more limited than other games due to fireworks. That said, preference would be two rows of 4 seats each, on the aisle, on the third base side. Thanks!

    FYI, apparently placing a deposit on 2015 season tickets does NOT get you rights to four 2014 postseason strips. It gets you rights to only two 2014 postseason strips. You’d think the A’s would prioritize incentivizing new season ticket packages, but no.

    Instead, I’m pursuing the friends with benefits option that worked so well for me last year. Fingers crossed.

        Yes, I see that. My complaint is mostly that the deal is not what I want it to be, but besides that, as a business practice it seems funny that they’d choose not to offer as good or better an incentive to secure new season ticket holders as they do for existing ones.

    The Playoff ticket SNAFU continues:

    The state of play as I understand it is

    1. Every ST account that bought playoff strips last year has been given a reservation for those exact seats/quantities
    2. Even though accounts get (at least) 4 strips, all strips must be in the same section
    3. Not only must they be in the same section, they must be purchased at the same time.
    4. Because of the first point, everything looks super full whether or not returning holders want to do anything different.
    5. I chose seats somewhat late last year in 136, and because most of the stadium is pre-reserved, I’m basically locked in.
    6. Best available other Bleacher tickets are 136 row 41. I’ve reserved that pair until 5 pm today. The second pair would cost $1,225.
    7. Things are filling up fast, so no guarantees about what’s available after I lose that reservation.
    8. That said, my seats don’t change unless I fail to buy by 9/5, so I’m not in any rush to pay my money.

    So basically the question is whether anyone wants to pay $1225 for two bleacher tickets that will be no better than 136 row 41. If you let me know in the next couple hours I can try to make good on the reservation, otherwise all I can promise is best available when I call back.

      This year’s situation does seem quite screwed up, as an outsider looking in. Interestingly, what you describe is not the situation for every ST account holder. I wanted to do the same thing I did last year, accepting Poppy’s gracious offer to use rights granted her from her partial weeknight-only ST account to get four strips in the Plaza Level. Last year’s deal was that such ST holders could get one strip for each ST seat held, plus two other strips in a lesser section. Worked out to four strips in Plaza level, fine by me.

      This year they’re only offering people with her plan their two seats, no extra strips anywhere. Which makes it not worth my while.

      I’m trying to schmooze my way into a better deal with Ticket Services if I get my own ST account for next year, but so far that ain’t happening either. I may end up just waiting for single game seats for each series, particularly once the inevitable decision is made to untarp the third deck and flood the market with cheaper tickets.

      I spoke with the front row seat grand slam package holder today, and it looks like I should be able to get 2 of her bonus strips. It’ll be field level at the base price, not the season ticket holder special, and they’re first-come first-serve and moving fast, so likely way up the 3rd base line.

      With my fall travel schedule I’m very unlikely to be able to make all the games though, so I’ll be looking to find volunteers for some of them.

        Not quite. They all have to be in the same price section (but could be in a different seating section within that price group). And because I was in the bleachers last year, and they’ve locked all previously-used seats for ST buyers, moving would put me in much worse seats. So I’m staying put and the other two strips would have to be bleacher seats.

        I could have paid 3x the price (or whatever it is) to put myself in the back of section 106.
