How’s everyone doing? With baseball on hiatus, the 49ers on a bye, and the Sharks having just lost again, I’m not in the best of moods. Let us speak of such things as to put smiles on our faces and perhaps require us to change our underwear.
Happy Diwali!
I tried a sugar-free candy bar from Trader Joe’s. It doesn’t use a sugar substitute, it simply doesn’t have any sweetener at all. It was really good! I can’t remember the brand, but it came in a black wrapper with green text and was up by the checklanes.
What the FK is up with Bit Strips? I don’t get the appeal.
I got a new computer and I FKing love it! So much faster than the old one. Higher resolution display, too. Photos look so much sharper and more detailed.
I was looking at the specs on the new Subaru Forester 2.0XT. Not because I want one, but because it has a turbo version of the engine that’s in the BRZ, and I’m wondering if the BRZ will get the turbo (Subaru claims the BRZ doesn’t have space to accommodate a turbo; this comes as a shock to those who have actually made such a conversion). Anyway, the Forester motor makes 258 hp from 2.0 liters, and 250 lb-ft of torque at just 2000 rpm. I don’t know much about cars, but such a low torque peak suggests a mild cam and low-pressure turbo, right? So really, this engine has much more massive power potential?
These are the things that are on my mind right now.
Sat’day night in the city of the dead.
I’d try getting some convo going, but I wasn’t sure if anyone would show up.
of all the times to go to bed before midnight. look what i missed.
Right?
I went to be at 1am. I won’t say which one.
It was insane in here. I had to delete about 6000 comments, all of them goat jokes.
Let’s not kid each other.
You missed it. Bed was here. Kyli got drunk and wouldn’t shut up.
You missed it.
YOU missed it!
I was thinking Ultravox.
good one.
I wonder what Bed is up to these days.
I wish he would come back by, at least to just give me the chance to say I told you so about the Raiders.
He did say that he liked Pryor, and I do too. I think he’s gonna be really good.
You probably should have put that comment on hold for a few hours.
(in honor of Chip Kelly’s visit to the Bay Area the Raiders have borrowed Cal’s pass defense for today’s game)
In fairness, Chip Kelley is really good at beating college teams.
Is it too early to start swapping t-giving recipes?
As long as you have some good latke recipes to go with ’em.
Did I say swap? I meant, take yall’s recipes. I have none of my own. Well, one:
Put cereal in a bowl. Add milk.
I know winter is upon us because the ants have begun invading the house.
Any good tips on driving gophers out of your yard without cruelty or death?
yes. buy ’em a car.
Googling “gopher cars” right now.
Rehab?
My uninformed guess about why Subaru says there’s not enough space for a turbo is that it has to do with heat protection. Turbos concentrate a lot of heat under the hood, so not only do you need space for the basic turbo plumbing, re-circulating the hot exhaust gas to drive the turbine, but you also need to add insulation around anything nearby that would suffer from proximity to the hot gas. Our Volvo 940 turbo wagon used to burn through AC hoses every 18 months or so because (we ultimately figured out) they were routed next to the turbo and couldn’t stand the intense heat over time. That’s Volvo’s fault of course, but suggests to me that fitting in all the insulation as well as the turbo plant is no easy engineering feat. The home turbocharger can cut corners that a manufacturer can’t.
That 940 had a ridiculous amount of power, though, and was a lot of fun to occasionally blow past street racers and muscle cars in the sedate-looking family wagon.
They’ll hang a turbo on the STI version of the BRZ
Thanks, and go As.
Subaru has made comments in the past about the BRZ being a different kind of car than the WRX. They’ve also said that the BRZ intake is still a weak spot. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a larger displacement version of the existing engine, along with a reworked intake. And, with any luck, Subaru will start building an F1-style transmission. Another possibility is an electric turbo, since they patented such a device recently.
funny how that new record i got, as i listened to it last night seemed so corny and un-equalizerable, but in the morning light, it’s just the thing to drink coffee by. funny i say, because it’s called “evening time.”
In the next seven nights I’ll sleep in a bed five times, and in the same bed twice, and in the same country no more than twice.
I’m getting too old for that shit.
Not really, I’m jealous as FK. :)
I’m long since too old for this shit – but I’ll get to see my mum at least.
As we get older, that becomes more and more important.
You know your fantasy QB is having a shitty game when you wish you’d started RG3 and his 9.88 points this week. (Matt Ryan, btw.)
dipping my toes into the new car stereo pool.
—WTF are coaxial speakers? is that about the wiring, like coax cable? is it better?
—speaker brands: does it matter? alpine, sony, pioneer, kicker. my goal is good bass, but not punchy bass, rather, something that brings out acoustic bass with as much roundness as possible.
—i’m thinking alpine 6090 6×9’s on the back window board. 2-way 4″ on the dash (that’s all the space allowed). and down the road, 10″ sub in the trunk with an amp. (is this sound thinking? or do i need an amp for the regular speakers first and then i can add on the sub? )
—also for stereo, does brand matter? or just the output levels?
I want one with pretty colors.
seems to be a big selling point. goes to the level of the salesmanship too. hence me asking what coaxial is here, after the acne’d bag of clerk fail at the best buy couldn’t answer.
i googled it btw. means all the cones on a multi-voice speaker are on the same axis. still wanna get cnn on it: good or bad?
Reading the wiki article, I think that coaxial might be slightly worse sound quality, but space is at a premium in car interiors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_loudspeaker
It appears to mean mounting the tweeter in the middle of the woofer.
That sounds scarousing.
I really just need a new head unit. I’m ok with my factory speakers and sub.
What vehicle is this going into?
Thanks, and go As.
A Yugo.
my rattly 300D.
OK so, more than likely you can go to http://www.crutchfield.com/ and bring up the funky little “what fits in my car” thing so you at least know what size speakers to start with.
Brands, for the most part, don’t really matter ALL that much. No matter what anybody says, anything from a reputable company is probably gonna be pretty decent.
That said, automobiles are a FKing terrible platform for audio. The speakers are pretty much just put wherever there is room, there is tons of road noise, and simply rolling down a window can screw with the sound.
Are there speakers in the front door or just the dash? I wouldn’t bother too much with the 6×9 speakers in the rear deck like you metioned, because then the sound is going to be coming from behind you and that’s kinda weird. The “best” speakers should be the ones in the doors right by your ears. The subwoofer goes in the back because bass doesn’t need to be in front of you – there’s something all science-y and stuff about the low frequency sounds and the waves and stuff like that.
Anyway. Get a decent 5 channel amp, use the first 4 channels to power the front speakers, use the 5th (mono) channel to power the sub when you get it, and enjoy all the noise you make.
Thanks, and go As.
yes! thank you. that’s the lowdown i needed.
It’s Steven Seagal week on AMC next week! Ahhhh!
Awesome! One more channel I can ignore.
is everybody seeing that story i’m seeing in the chronicle?
didn’t they sing a 5-year lease like at the end of last season?
yup. and it is gross.
my face is wet with tears of puke until somebody explains what’s going on.
this. a million times it.
It’s just a way of pressuring the Coliseum Authority to get serious, I don’t think there’s even a .01 chance of that happening. But just in case I am sending back my form to ticket services asking for my playoff money back instead of rolling it over.
And remember, no one ever tells Phil Matier anything unless they want it to end up in the paper. That’s what he’s for.
Agreed. This is MLB giving the politicians cover to extend the A’s.
It’s gamesmanship for sure. At this point it’s a more than idle, less than serious option to remind the CA that they do actually have options. But the time frame to make a deal happen is measured in weeks, not months. If they have to go to a plan B or C for the A’s, they’re going to have to commit to them and make necessary preparations sooner than later. If we don’t see a new agreement by January 1st, I’d get very, very worried.
For sure, the idea that the team can be selling tickets and making plans for a new season for very much longer when they don’t know where they’re playing is ridiculous. When I was doing box office and house management, we had to move from one theater to another three blocks away unexpectedly. The new theater was larger, but had 12 seats per row in the main floor center; the old one had 13, and we’d sold the tickets six weeks ahead. This would be like that times 10000.
this makes my heart hurt. :(
ok. not crybarfing anymore. thanks. fullout panic reduced to nonstop marge simpson worrygroan sound. mmrrrgggg. mrrrrggg. mmrrrgggg.
teehee!
mrrrrggg!!!
I’m still crybarfing because I don’t understand. And I don’t handle complete bewilderment & out-of-control fear of loss well.
and the timing. juuuust as i was avoiding worrying about monday morning piles of work with a little sunday evening mindless web browsing…
Don’t think of it as us playing in their stadium. Think of it as them sitting at home in October watching us win the World Series in their stadium.
That would be awesome. Then saying “SUCK IT!!!”
Oh my god. And just like that, I’ve gone from crybarfing about it to actually hoping it happens.
Start the victory parade down the Embarcadero, back through SF, across the bay bridge and finishing up in DT Oakland.
I LOVE the way you think.
I’d put it closer to 10% chance of it happening as well as using Sac temporarily. Not a good chance, but it’s on the table as a realistic option.
I said that was the best solution a long time ago!
Stop making AV crybarf.
one thing is saying it a long time ago. another thing is it being the best solution.
Yes. But you didn’t say it in a Galaxy far far away. So it doesn’t count.
This idea is a non-starter with less than EM’s .01 probability and has clearly been planted in the media, but as a point of reference we can look at attendance figures in the two comparable situations in the expansion era. It hasn’t worked out that well for the “guest” team.
Dodger Stadium 1962-1965:
1962: Dodgers 2.755M, Angels 1.144M
1963: Dodgers 2.538M, Angels 821K
1964: Dodgers 2.228M, Angels 760K
1965: Dodgers 2.553M, Angels 566K
Shea Stadium 1974-1975:
1974: Mets 1.722M, Yankees 1.273M
1975: Mets 1.730M, Yankees 1.288M
This is good! I get to see my A’s without going all the way to Oak, and ill still get walk up tickets!
Well as long as it benefits you screw everyone else
Thanks, and go As.
Benefits the tax payers who were likely to get screwed.
Don’t the Oakland/Alameda tax payers get screwed if they have no tenant there to pay off that huge loan they took out for the Raiders in the 90s?
Benefits me, too. Caltrain! But still do not want.
Not sure you can really do that comparison without discussing where each time was in terms of how good they were. IIRC, both the Angels of the 60s & Yankees of the 70s kind of sucked ass, no?
Definitely true in the LA situation. The Koufax-Drysdale Dodgers were at their peak with two World Series wins in those years while the Angels were an expansion team, though they did finish over .500 in both 1962 and 1964.
The New York comparision is maybe a little better. After their 1973 World Series appearance the Mets won 71 and 82 games in those seasons. The Yankees had somewhat recovered from their down period in the 1960s and won 89 and 83. While the Yankees attendance didn’t match the Mets, they still drew their largest attendance since 1964. The team had been down, the stadium had deteriorated and there had been a lot of white flight from the Bronx in the preceding years.
The comparisons are sketchy but they’re all we have to go on. I don’t see the A’s drawing anywhere near the Giants if they play in the same park. Nobody would ever leave a park in a dispute over concessions revenue, and it seems to me both sides have an interest in an intermediate-term lease with buyout provisions both ways. If Oakland decides to blow up the Coliseum before the A’s are ready to leave, in that case I think a temporary stay in San Francisco becomes plausible while the new park is built in San Jose, Sacramento or Manteca, but no way does it happen now.
What were their attendance figures just before moving? That would have an impact too.
As for the concessions. That still dates back to killing the Coliseum for baseball for the sake of football. That change as a lasting impact on the A’s revenue. Especially when they likely want a chunk of the A’s game concession revenue.
also, the giants figures benefit form season ticket sales that are greater than teh A’s (I imagine, have not seen figures).
When I was there at the end of last year, Renel gleefully announced a continuation of the sell out streak to a half empty stadium.
Which reminds me. Renel was spotted standing in line outside the Coliseum for Game 5, in head-to-toe Raiders gear. When challenged as to why she was not wearing A’s gear, she said “Come on, you guys, you want me to get fired?”
Yes. Yes I would.
With all the A’s gear I started seeing in SF at the end of last season, I’m not so sure attendance would suck. In fact, given the perceived differences in park quality between the Coliseum and ATandT, I bet the A’s would do just fine there attendance-wise.
The questions of ethics, morality, sanctity of the soul, spreading of the taint and all that are another matter entirely of course.
We’ll bring paint for the latter. Add our own little bits of green and gold. Maybe turn the Coke bottle into a Mellow Yellow.
There would be potential for more tourists, business travelers, and corporate outings. Also possibly some Giants fans, on the theory that they aren’t going to watch the game anyway, so they might not notice that their team isn’t actually there, or at least not until the fourth or fifth inning, by which time they’d nearly be ready to leave anyway.
this
It’s so beautifully ironic that MLB doesn’t want to screw up the Giants territory in SJ, so they’re gonna try and put the A’s in SF instead.
Thanks, and go As.
It also adds a fun anti-trust (non-relevant) tidbit of “You will let them relocated 0 inches away, but you won’t let relocate 40 miles away?”
I think thye would be fine too.if liking baseball became chic, liking the a’s would certainly be even chicier.
“I was totally into the A’s before anyone. I grew up on Ricky henderson”
this
Mickey Henderson.
Did not know this history. Good on Neyer.
Wow.
It’s also forgotten that at the end of the 1985 season Bob Lurie announced his intention to have the Giants play the entire 1986 season at the Coliseum, sharing it with the A’s. That idea was shot down after 3 or 4 days, in large part because Lurie hadn’t asked the Haas family or the Coliseum people for their opinion on the matter.

Nope. Looks like he got to KICP after I left.

Also approved.
I would ADORE that.
I will gouge out my eyes with a spoon if he goes to the Red Sox.
He’s in his late 30s and is a Georgia boy. I’ll be really surprised if he leaves Atlanta.
Thanks, and go As.
It’s his last chance at a multi-year contract. If everyone offers a 1 year deal he’ll probably stay in Atlanta. But he wants to pitch 2-3 more years and if the Braves won’t go there than the team that does…
I’d be willing to go 2 years with a club option 3rd year.
as would i
I’d be down for that.
He’d also be a great mentor for Sonny Gray because they both
are short white guysHAVE THE BULLDOG MENTALITY!!!!ONE!Thanks, and go As.
I want nice things. This would qualify
I don’t know what the 40-man roster looks like, but I am totally in favor of stocking up on any pitcher with any possibility to be effective.
I think I’d rather have Johnson than Anderson at the same price.
From the “at least it’s not a baseball team” department.
Fortunately, due to the team’s general poor play and my usually packed weekend schedule, I don’t feel obliged to watch that hideousness (team and uniform) play.
Better than a lot of those types of uniforms, I think.
Those jerseys look like every player on the team pudgy with their belly pooching out but their pants riding high to cover it.
Love the ass flags
a comment there points out an interesting §: (j)
That is seriously the stupidest statute. I mean:
Gee, thanks for the lists of ridiculous “shoulds” that I don’t actually have to follow, Congress. Actually, thanks Scalia et al. for making sure they can’t take it past “should,” I guess.
now that you got my semantic gears grinding, i gotta say that, on the other hand, wills and shan’ts don’t show *actual* respect, just submission or duty. seems the implicit choice is what rarefies those other devotions into actual respect. just a tangential thought.
Fair point. I guess they are saying that if you want to show respect for the flag, here’s how we recommend doing it. Kind of a silly thing to put in the United States Code, if you ask me, but I guess it was important to somebody at some point.

Blerg. We just got a prescription for ADHD medication for Spawn1. I’m very conflicted about it; he is doing extraordinarily well in many respects (keeping his temper, social interaction, motor skills). I was really, really hoping we wouldn’t have to go here, but it’s become clear since school started how problematic the attention span issues are now that everything else has calmed down.
bummer.
You have done everything possible. He can still grow out of it. Hang in there
the lights have taken full effect. at 5:30pm. i hate this shit.
Surely no team will give Richie Incognito another chance, right? His days in the NFL are numbered, right?
Riley Cooper is still playing for the Eagles.
That’s a very different situation.
Oh, the team that signed a dog murderer? Yeah, they might like Incognito.
Is he an above average football player? If so, he will get another chance.
Also, FK the NFL and its bullshit macho culture.
This is the kind of thing I’m talking about. It is so infuriating. Martin was in a no win situation. And the fact that unlike any other workplace on the planet, he somehow did something wrong by *not* having a physical altercation with the teammate torturing him? WTH? Seriously, WTH? Yeah, because an intelligent man like Martin is so eager to have a fight with a psychopath. That would be a great plan.
The irony of these wannabe hard men anonymously criticizing Martin for not handling this “like a man” is just staggering. Sadly, there are a lot of professional dipshits out there purporting to be experts on masculinity, who are all too happy to perpetuate the idea that putting yourself in position to be killed, and perpetuating a culture of violence, is the only way to gain respect. To wit:
KNBR should fire this asshole for perpetuating such dangerous horseshit.
Totally agree.
I saw this on Yahoo and was looking at the comments and fully expecting that same sort of BS. I was shocked that all the comments were in support/defense of Martin. I didn’t see one person blame him. Only a couple of years ago, that would have been completely reversed.
As a guy, I hope the next rampaging suicidal psycho whose is created from this sort of insane “macho” mentality takes a few shots at him. No one needs to die from it, but maybe he might finally get what it seems everyone else is finally getting. WE create that insanity by pushing and pushing and pushing until they’ve got nothing left to do but snap.
For some reason, this reminds me of that DJ who told a caller concerned that his daughter was gay that he should have one of his friends “screw her straight.” I can’t remember the DJ’s name, but I don’t think he was fired for that comment. I’m sorry, but advocating rape should be a guaranteed way to lose your job.
well, buttafuoco to you too, matthew.

FK college football even more, obviously.
It’s almost as if giving people preferential treatment their entire lives because they’re good at a sport is a fucking dumb idea.
Thanks, and go As.
This whole thing is really upsetting me. I could give a shit about what happens to Incognito–good riddance. However I do wonder about Martin. Don’t know what his future will be in the Miami locker room. They didn’t have his back before, why the heck would they now? I hope he can somehow land on a team that will be better for him.
I agree with you completely. It’s unbelievable to me that such a culture was allowed to exist (and I don’t buy for a minute that management was unaware of it), and I’m sure that it will persist even without Incognito. It also makes me wonder about all the other people he has bullied who have never spoken up.
I can easily buy management not being aware. Bullies tend to pick on people they know won’t rat them out. And they did to do their bullying out of sight of those of authority.
Sure, but this can’t be the first time anyone was bullied. And surely these coaches have been around enough locker rooms to know it exists, and what signs to look for.
Like teachers or kids parents wrt bullying at schools? Everyone has jobs to do. The coaching staff is very busy and aren’t always aware of every little thing going on. And the signs for bullying aren’t always obvious and can easily be misconstrued for other things. And if he doesn’t say anything or respond, there’s no way for them to know. The best you can really do is create and environment that makes it easy and safe to report these sorts of things where it’ll be taken very seriously and be addressed appropriately. And even that isn’t an easy thing to do nor does it always work.
Romo on the radio today said when he was on the Eagles a coach told him to ride a rookie who was thought to be soft.
I’ll hazard a guess he didn’t need too much encouragement.
Yeah, but that’s Romo. And the Eagles. But in all seriousness, I know there are even teachers and coaches and mentors would do that kind of thing with kids as well. Doesn’t mean everyone is in on it. It’s just the (stupid) philosophy of one (and likely several) coach in the NFL.
I’m going to pull back on this one given that there are now reports that the tool did what he did at least in part at the bequest of at least one and possibly more coaches.
When this whole thing started I certainly didn’t expect Brandon Marshall to emerge as the voice of healing and sanity.
Why don’t they do that? Easy. That would be too reasonable and adult-like.
also because the entire business of the NFL and big time college football is based around treating these men as expendable commodities, not human beings.
Meh, you could remove the NFL and big time college football and it would still be true. That’s exactly how the business world as a whole treats their employees.
winner
My favorite part is that Incognito won the “Good Guy award” handed out by the team’s beat reporters last year.
How about this winner?
jennifer, the first one is whee you stayed the second one is where i took you.
OMG! There is a marker on the floor! We were 90 feet off it appears.
yep. off a bit.
I think the guy that writes that blog put the marks on
If the Red Rovers only managed 33 runs, there can be no doubt that the Eagles were guilty of unfair pitching.
There was a real home plate marker on the floor of the grotty old Safeway that preceded the current one, in the frozen food section if memory serves me right. That certainly could be where the Office Depot is now — there weren’t any other stores on that site before, just a big auto repair shop.
How could they have done all that research without mentioning the Double Play bar?
Maybe lunch at the Double Play needs to be part of Jennifer’s December excursion. I would even walk two whole blocks (from work) for that.
don’t get much farther than starbuks, do you?
No way, the Slow Club is farther.
All that way? that is almost half a block!
Tell me about it, I had to walk all that way back from lunch with my union contact* today, AFTER having the warm gingerbread pear upside-down cake with house-made vanilla ice cream.

duh
the netflix caught-up report:
the killing, season 3. so downhill. and sleeeeeepyyyy. nodded off at least 5 times. maybe they mentioned where this case came from while i was napping.
parks & rec, season 5. they figured out the formula and are just sleepwalking through it. season highlight, they got within an inch of making jerry a viable character when he caught the mug at home. him being actually a bumbler is nowhere near funny. it’d be hilarious if he was actually the hidden solver of everybody’s mistakes AND he got treated like an idiot. ron still rules, of course.
sons of anarchy, season 5. i was confused by the last-season recap at the beginning because i couldn’t recognize any of it. then about 15 minutes into episode 1 i realized why. this show sucks so bad i didn’t even remember that i stopped watching it a year ago. tedious, tedious melodrama.
lost, all of it. did it in about 3 weeks. my favorite part was the music. nicely anachronistic TV sci-fi soundtrack, and in that light, it’s easier to watch each epp as a twilight zone sorta thing, flowing through a convention of sharply written thematic flashbacks, and somewhat connected to other epps so that you don’t have to meet the characters anew for each story, rather than a continuing story 6 seasons long. especially with the make-it-up-as-they-go plotline. two are-they-good / are-they-bad reversals per character are enough to make me lose, not track itself, but interest in keeping track. and i, too, was disappointed by the last epp. but for my own reasons. because they CHANGED THE MUSIC to something from spielberg. why?? (for overbearing emotional manipulation, obviously. just like spielberg.)
newsroom, season 1. really? a minute and a half of THAT opening credit/music? REALLY?? and what a silly show. what are they going for? the dissection of recent history is pretty cool. why do they have to couch it in such disposable storylines? are they trying to sugarcoat the hard stuff for the viewers? for their own execs? i do appreciate how much choreographical thought they put into any shot that has boobs in it.
continuum, season 2. still into it though i fear some make it up as you go writing on the horizon if not in the rearview mirror. they’re going to quickly muck up the anti-corporate sentiment with some character reversals, aren they? though i can still live with it in the absence of fringe.
saving myself for homeland, season 2.
in conclusion, meh showing so far. i need better new old shows. recs welcome.
Not a tv show, but stream the movie “Grassroots.” the book was written by a friend of mine about running another one of our friends city council campaign.
movies are nice, but those are for special occasions.
i eat TV shows. there are long periods of my work when words are missing, when i’m pushing colors and shapes around, and this is when i plug into a series on my phone via earbuds for 3 or 4 or 12 hours straight.
have you seen f-troop? Its really racist.
how?
i mean “native american hello!”
saw it last night. cute movie. 2 questions: was one of the coffee shop volunteers based on you? and was the candidate really that clueless about how to pretend to not be crazy when talking to anybody or was that just for the movie? (honest question. i had suspicions leaning toward hollywood enhancement, until i saw the where are they now about him at the end.)
Neither I or SLF (Phil’s cube mate at the stranger) were in the movie.
Grant is not as whiny as he is played. He would say crap and not really give a shit what people thought, then phil would call him out and he would laugh and say well fuck that. More towards the point where he thought he might win he tried to behave himself. then it was “did I say that, shit. FIX IT PHIL!”
Grant wrote the best review of a band I ever read. and they didn’t like it. (scroll to the bottom.)
nice review.
My biggest quibbles with the movie* Grant used an old mac SLF gave him and Phil’s TV was better than the one they showed. Albeit a hand me down from us after our “thousand dollar Weekend” after I got my first county paycheck.
*the movie is loosely based on the book about the campaign, and told to fit gyenthall’s narrative.
i actually wondered what your biggest quibble might be and settled on scenes that start in one place and end in another and that someone who knew seattle well would know they were miles apart. (aside from the jump-cut monorail monolog which was supposed to do that.)
there was some of that, but i know better now. DOn’t get me started on Gotcha or Higher learning, though

Huh, I had never heard the original, but was familiar with this cover from the 90’s alt-rock days:
there is a version with Joey ramone too
Well we all know that *he’s* not a real punk boy.
WFMU’s record fair is amazing. first time i went i was totally unprepared. just took a few wads of money plus my ATM and a copy of trouser press in hand, no bags or cart or anything else. bought so many records that i had to walk home really slowly, putting down the quickly ripping stuffed grocery bags every 15 steps or so to rest my arms. but the subsequent years i had it down to a $500-limited, wheelie-carted, DJ-bagged science.
always need a plan at record swaps. the longer you can stick to it, the better you feel the next day
i had a $100 limit on 1-dollar records. which i quickly subverted on myself when i’d hit that limit, see something else, and i’d think to myself well i’m willing to pay 2 for this one.
IF YOU HAVE IT, DON’T BUY IT!*
*unless the condition is 3 grades better and the price is lower than you paid
i also have a plan for the day after a good estate sale 45s swoop. it involves a wet sponge, mild soapy water, a super soft towel, a record player and a buncha weed.
and i swooped yesterday.
which is to say, i think i got some good ones. someone come over and smoke me the fuck out, STAT!!!!
sneak preview, volt 100 (for 50¢!).
nice
via discogs, 2 for sale from $50
I think you have to keep it though.
story of my life. high potential value on records i’m not gonna sell.
but those are VGs and the visual/surface condition on mine is closer to G or G+ at best. still have to clean it and put it on to test the audio condition. it’ll be good enough to put on at a sock hop, anyway.
I wanna do a sock hop!
virtual sock hop in 5, 4, 3…
that 2nd one, hmmm…
can’t find youtube support for nappy brown: if you need some lovin’, b/ i’m in the mood.
This is not at all sock-hop material, but worth a listen:
link
b side’s slow. blech.
before motormouth maybelle.
b/ cover of good night sweetheart it’s time to go, no vid support.
and it’s got a name tag. it used to belong to blanche duval. “so the two together means white valley.”
i’m making this page slow and heavy huh. ok. that’s it unless later there’s a superb track i just gotta add.
Luther and Sherlock are great british serieseseses.
I suspect you’ve done Firefly/B.S. Galactica but if not…
This one isn’t on Instant right now, but Slings & Arrows is a really good show.
i like all of those first 4. i’d rec “top boy” back at you (based on your luther) but it’s not on netflix at all now. weird.
S&A looks good. might disk it.
Have you watched Foyle’s War?
Is it about trying to win basketball games from ’97-’07? Sounds kinda boring.
i started it last night. i’m in. thanks.
Ooh, netflix also has the second set of 13 episodes of Wallander (the Swedish version starring Krister Henriksson, not the English one with Kenneth Branagh, although they have that also). Which works for me, because we watched the first set on KCSM a few years back.
ok. done. mini review:
my favorite part was the historicity of it all. totally told from a modern moral filter but still interesting to be in the moment as WWII events affect the characters.
the mysteries were a little more complex than what i could put in the background during work, so i actually watched most of these at home. i mean, the good kind of complex. but it was impossible to keep up when they would show the reveal and i had only heard, not seen, the scene they were referring to.
foyle could have stuttered 5–15 fewer times per episode and we’d still get the gist of his distanced genius.
so much attention to detail, but they fell for the “supposed to” / “meant to” cross-pond shibboleth. and quite a few of actors trying to be US soldiers couldn’t keep their colourful lilt in check. (we can’t complain that much though. we surely transmit more of this than we receive. i’m at this very moment oblivious to the way elisabeth moss is butchering kiwi tones in top of the lake.)
6 seasons of crime fighting and not once do they pop a “curses, foyle’d again??”
anyway, pretty good stuff. now what?
If you like Mystery characters, how about Cadfael?
Loved Cadfael when I was a kid.
Some still-airing Netflix TV options that you may or may not have watched: Fringe, Archer, The League, Orange is the New Black, Bob’s Burgers, Louie, Doctor Who, American Horror Story, Bones, Sherlock
Some no longer running NetFlix TV options that you probably have watched but just in case: Battlestar Galactica, X-Files, Twin Peaks, Futurama, Friday Night Lights, Skins, The Office, Firefly
Dexter is back on netflix, too.
The League is awesome.
I like Grim, too. Totally not believable but its fun.
Thanks, and go As.
Other than having fun pinpointing the location of houses and settings on Grimm, I just haven’t been able to get over the acting. A co-workers daughter is going to be on an episode sometime in the near future, though, so I may have to watch it.
Well yeah you totally have to turn off your brain to watch it, but most TV shows suck…
Thanks, and go As.
Mrs. PDX and I at this point only have spare time to follow/catch up on 2-3 shows at a time and I generally acquiesce to her preferences, anyway, since I frequently fall asleep in front of the TV, anyway. Right now, that includes binge-watching Big Bang and keeping up with Bones and Once Upon a Time. Sleepy Hollow may or may not be number 4 on the list, but only if Mrs. PDX can stomach it and that’s only really until Downton comes back in January.
I have never watched an episode of:
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Dexter
Thanks, and go As.
GoT has lots of boobs. Just sayin’…
I don’t have HBO or any other way to watch it.
Thanks, and go As.
We don’t have HBO, either. We watched Seasons 1-2 on Amazon Video (free with Prime) and are waiting for Season 3 to become available.
oh shit it on amazon now?
YAY! BOOBIES!
Thanks, and go As.
Oops – not free with Prime, but available on Amazon.
dammit.
:(
Thanks, and go As.
But, BOOBIES!!!
But I can see them for free.
Thanks, and go As.
GoT has a lot of new supernatural entities every time the author/s didn’t feel like resolving the old supernatural entities within the already existing plot elements. just sayin’…
OUaT is weird. i liked the first season, but second season started and i couldn’t stomach it anymore. maybe i reached saturation point with suburban supernatural. (haven, the gates, new teen wolf, et al.)
I’m enjoying the third season more than the second, other than a plot element or two.
The League is pretty funny. Even when an episode isn’t very good, there’s usually at least a throwaway line, or just a line delivery that absolutely kills me.
funniest show on television by far.
huh.
I wanted to argue with this, but then I couldn’t come up with a show airing right now that I find funnier. It’s a certain kind of funny, though. Kind of Seinfeldy, but dirtier. I think it’s carried by a strong cast of comedians.
(Also it’s nominally about fantasy football, but that’s really just there to set up the comedy. It is very male though.)
Jenny the wife makes the show.
As does Raffi.
There isn’t one episode that I wouldn’t re watch on loop for 3 hours right now.
“Password is Taco” is one of the most popular fantasy team names out there now.
Thanks, and go As.
Raffi is incredible. I like Jenny a lot too, and not just because I enjoy looking at her.
apparently, according to my industry friends (I live in LA now :-P) She is really awesome in real life too
early returns, it’s top of the pile funny. definitely.
but for my taste, and maybe not accounting for early/late in my viewing of these respective series, always sunny is funnier. or, subjectively anyway, it makes me laugh more. similar kind of certain funny, if not dirtier then certainly skankier, and similar but more concentrated cast of great comedians, it wins by a nose. also, the mac bulks up bit is unparalleled.
I like it better than its always sunny, I don’t have to hate all the characters.
Also Jenny
yeah, it’s subjective. i personally don’t hate them. i’d actually rather hang out with the gang than with the league.
also, a hermetic buncha guys and token female who spend all their time online filtering their lives via sports and the ensuing meta? i just can’t relate.
You’ve got at least 4 token females!
i was only counting myself…
Where are all these females that accept tokens?
rumor is, they’re total slots.
Hee hee!
asvd
somewhere between police squad!, strangers with candy, and party down: childrens hopsital. with some actors borrowed from parks and rec and the league. it might contend for funniest (if your sense of humor leans toward those 3 examples).
only complaints are the weird short format and that they can’t get rid of the one dull character because he’s kinda the creator of the show and all.
He really is the worst character, and the least funny actor. But not only is he the creator, he’s the husband of the lead actress.
ah. the billy joel of new sitcoms.
There aren’t any Dexter episodes beyond 2009 though right? Or at least there weren’t last time I clicked on it.
I dunno, I just remember the internet being excited that it came back.
Thanks, and go As.
typical netflix seems like they’re doing right but really it’s just a B-list with *some* stuff you want: dexter is only streaming up through season 4. ???
might try the league and grimm.
TBH, I’m not sure you want to watch any Dexter past season 4.
I presume this falls below the intelligence threshold of everyone else on here, but in case there’s anyone else who likes their entertainment pretty, shallow, and a bit corny, I recommend White Collar. Just finished season 2, which is both cornier and better than season 1.
It gets cornier, but still good.
Sweet. I just love the aesthetic of it. The people, the scenery, the production elements are all so pretty.
Yeah, that’s been maintained pretty well. The character interaction has continued to be pretty strong even with the suspension of disbelief involved. But that seems to be par for USA productions. Suits & Psych are the same way.
I love White Collar. And every time he goes on a caper I get super nervous even though I know he won’t get caught.
let’s see how to separate…
watched and liked:
fringe, OitNB (really liked), Dr.W (new series. tried going back to a random sampling of older ones and couldn’t hang), AHS (it was OK as trash, but as trash, you might as well watch all the paranormal activities in order and treat is as a series), sherlock, galactica, X-F, TP (original airing and again online), FNL, firefly
watched as filler and can stand it in the background but it’s not really what i’m looking for:
bones
so not into cartoons anymore, i don’t know why, i just can’t watch them, possibly not even the simpsons anymore:
archer, B’sB (feeling a midge guilty about this because my friend does the music), futurama
tried it and disliked it just enough that something else took over but then i saw my wife watching a newer episode recently and since it doesn’t deal with teenager anymore maybe i will fast-forward to the adult seasons and perhaps like it:
skins
tried and hated it:
NONE!
this leaves:
louie (hmm… i have trouble with half-hour-ers), the office (ditto)
under that same umbrella, i can’t explain why i like:
parks and rec
I’ve only watched the first season of Louie, but it is very good.
It gets even better.
A couple other shows might be funnier on a laugh-per-minute basis, but Louie is seriously brilliant.
ok, ok, i’ll try the halfer.
Louie is beyond funny. It’s a comedy, and it makes me laugh a lot, but it is so much more than that. It’s deep.
OOOh, I super concur on Friday Night Lights. That should be at the tippity top of your list. Also Buffy, Dead Like Me, Justified, (I think Twin Peaks is back on Netflix instant). Might not be your cup of tea, but I’m pretty addicted to The Good Wife. I also have many friends hooked on Scandal, but I’ve not watched it.
dead like me is so good. miss it.
adding scandal to queue.
FNL might be my favorite series ever.
Thanks, and go As.
It’s so goddamn good.
Best depiction of marriage in TV history
back at ya…
if Dr. W, then: torchwood
if galactica, then: caprica (don’t expect full plot satisfaction though)
hidden older nuggets, in order of worth: life, the dark zone, the guardian (side note on the guardian, it’s one of those shows where the day seems to last 2 hours and evening/night is on steroids, kinda like buffy…)
if the killing or other still mental cop dramas, then: the fall (big rec actually — the first shot, gillian’s butt bending over, belies how feminist-smart it actually is)
if regular primetime TV contemporary cop show: lie to me, the finder, the glades
if you wish you could retroactively re-cast the wire with a waaaay better mcnutty: chicago code
not quite deadwood but way better than sons of anarchy: hell on wheels
not quite walking dead but way better than other bands of survivors shows: jericho
if on that alternate reality bent: awake (great concept. 99% good execution. am not sold on that last epp / explanation of the phenomenon)
still get a kick out of it: the good guys
if you like how the brother in trueblood always does the dumbest thing possible even though everybody already told him not to: the black donnelys
slight reprise of arrested dev: todd margaret
if you slept: freaks and geeks, undeclared
if you hate that you can’t browse netflix’s complete list: http://instantwatcher.com/
prime suspect >>>>>>>>> the fall
interesting. i watched and didn’t think much of the first few episodes way back when i was probably looking for more sherlock/marple on mystery and haven’t bothered to re-evaluate since. didn’t realize it’s had so many seasons, even a significant hiatus, and then a US franchise with the lovely and talented mrs history of violence. will add.
but why do i hear pacman music when i read what you wrote?
The US Prime Suspect was basically a cookie-cutter police procedural. It was ok by those standards, but not on the level of the original UK Prime Suspect which was a lot darker.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Bored To Death yet. Probably the best stoner comedy ever created.
Hated that show sooooo much. I was bored to death watching it.
I loved Bored To Death.
I had a pretty funny experience watching the first episode: I had previously read a Jonathan Ames story in an issue of McSweeney’s that had the same plot as the first episode (writer decides to be a PI, puts up a craigslist ad, and helps a woman find her lost sister). Except I had forgotten about reading the story, and the memory started coming back to me bit-by-bit as I was watching the episode. But what made it really weird is that for the version I had read, Ames had written it as actual hard-boiled detective fiction, so it had lots of gruesome violence and a large body count. So I was watching the show and experiencing deja vu, but then the tv show remained light and funny while I kept expecting it to get dark and brutal.
it turly was great
I only drink white wine because of the low alcohol content
i think what’s bothering me about netflix is that it’s acting as a gate-keeper, and evidence of the narrowing of the ‘net. the biggest provider should have all the movies/shows. but it really only has just enough killer to justify holding so much filler (adjusted for geographical region — it’s like they buy 3 crappy australian series we’ve never heard of for the price a good one from anywhere). at times i feel the streaming list might more aptly be named the steaming pile. i end up basically looking for shows with a sliver of the 4th star in red. that’s the best i can expect to watch, a 3.1-3.25 star show. catch a 3.5er and i’m like woooooo! i deserve 4s and 5s, all day every day.
but even the complete holdings is full of gaps. things disappear. where’s top boy (especially the new seasons) anymore? where’s the ghost squad?
How is it acting as a gate-keeper? I understand wanting it to be a one-stop shop, but it can only offer what the studios will sell it licenses for.
crap. had a nice response written. opened a new browser window to look for an example. got that old, all your pages need to be reloaded because fuckity error and lost it. let’s see if i can recreate…
—
i don’t know how the actual dealing happens, but i imagine 2 decisions are made by netflix, how much to spend on licenses, and with that figure, what to get. and through those decisions, the exhaustive catalog of entertainment the free internet personally promised me is whittled down to just another channel. and because of those decisions, there is an effect on the surface of culture (why are we all up to date on bones and not, say… uh, NICS? — trying to look for laterally and equally mediocre examples here). what we end up with is ABC without NBC or CBS. all dynasty, no dallas. and worse, then they take the money that could have been spent on dallas and they get us falcon crest and knots landing instead. we end up culturally deprived of dallas (as a stand in for a 5-star item) while conversant on a bunch of mediocrity. that looks like a gate to me. and netflix keeps it. i think that’s my thinking.
I’m not sure it’s that simple. As I recall, part of Netflix’s strategic problem is that the studios don’t want to sell it everything, for fear of it becoming too powerful. However, it does seem that Netflix has made a decision to be a bit more discriminating in what it licenses, thus acting more as a curator than a “universal jukebox.” I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, especially if it allows them to keep subscriber fees down. If you want to watch the stuff they don’t have, you can still get it. You just have to pay a bit more.
I also don’t think that that, at least today, Netflix is driving what becomes culturally relevant and what doesn’t. I’d say it probably works the other way: what they choose to license is driven by what people like and/or are buzzing about. If they ever truly don’t seem to have that stuff, Amazon or someone else will eat them alive. And the fact that they can’t get everything anyway (e.g. HBO stuff), or can’t get it soon enough to satisfy some people (the more recent stuff that ends up on Hulu first) is driving them to create programming, which is a good thing for us couch potatoes.
no. it’s not as simple as i said. i always end up leaving out a bunch of stuff when i’m generalizing. dammit!
i do think netflix is driving the cultural relevance bus some. at least, i wouldn’t explain the recent onslaught of australian, korean, french, and other subtitled shows vis a vis US popular demand.
i just find capitalism personally inconvenient, i guess. can’t wait till there are levels, just like they have now with per-month quantity, but with quality. for only $20 more a month, you can watch 10 five-star movies. unlimited access to sundance winners for $30 a month! add the erotica component for just $69 (one time only fee, $69 sounds much better than the sloppy, uncomfortable mess it actually is).
Providers will stand hard against any attempt to allow bundling.
Can we tagline this:
Pretty pretty pretty please
Well, since you asked nicely, sure.
Keep in mind that most studios/networks own Cable Providers. So Netflix is treated as a direct competitor. It’s not just that it would be too expensive for Netflix to purchase content, it’s that the Providers are flat out NOT going to sell it to them. The reason why Amazon can get the content they get is because even within the Prime, they’re requiring a fee for content that goes to the Provider, so it’s being treated similarly to rentals.
Thanks for the recs. I haven’t seen a decent number of those yet!
Some more randoms that came to mind that I recall enjoying: Spaced (Simon Pegg doing Simon Pegg things), Better off Ted (fairly entertaining sitcom type)
That link is cool–thanks!
Mind of a Chef is great. Just finished power watching it.
really bummed by the lack of good food shows on there
Just finished Awake. Agree with your sentiment. I was into the concept and the way it played out for most of the series. Maybe I just need to reflect on the ending a bit more, but I’m not sure I like the way it wrapped up. It’s also possible I’m not understanding it though.
nah. you got it. there’s nothing much behind it to understand.
on the commentary the guy is all self congratulatory about it too. like he just rewrote lady and the tiger or something.
I’m incredibly FKing jealous of all you people who have time to watch TV shows for more than 30-60 minutes per two or three days.
Department of Christ, What An Asshole: The Damon Bruce Edition.
He’s trying to get fired, right?
That would require me to believe that he’s actually aware of a how idiotic his comments are. Given his genuine belief in what he’s saying, no. Trying, he is not.
usually there is an apology after saying totally stupid shit. There is no way to apologize for this
THERE ARE NO APOLOGIES IN HIS MAN’S BOX.
Shots fired at Tiburon in the audio clip, by the way.
“Christ what an asshole” understates it.
Not just an asshole, but the asshole?
Hold on. I kind of like assholes. They can be kind of cute and puckery. He’s just a piece of worthless shit.
You should be a nurse.
I don’t like people.
But you LOVE assholes.
They taste like chicken.
I don’t think he’s going to be coming into any women’s boxes any time soon.
I don’t listen to sports talk radio at all (and honestly don’t understand why anyone else does either) but have been pleasantly surprised to see on TV that Gary Radnich’s bombast has been entirely on the right side of the Martin/Incognito thing.
what’s this Martin/Incognito thing?
Oh man.
I am not super manly, apparently
it’s when you can’t recognize him.
THAT’S THE SAME GUY?? THE ONE ON THE RIGHT IS A GUY??
#WIN
Now I’m confused.
from what I can put together from the rant: a guy Possibly martin, possibly incognito was hazed. someone took offense. and said something to the media, posibly martin possibly incognito
Martin was the hazee, Incognito was the hazer (or purveyor of jolly locker-room fun unfortunately misinterpreted, depending on your perspective)
was there a story about it? why is it in the news? what was the hazing?
I admire your ability to tune out the world, sir.
these are football players?
I admire your stubborn refusal to look things up.
is there an item about it in the internet?
On the what?
Second-year Miami Dolphins player Jonathan Martin, a Stanford grad, suddenly quit the team last week. Since then, stories have flown around about vicious hazing at the hands in particular of lineman Richie Incognito. “Hazing” said to have included actual physical assault, frequent use of the N word, and threats to rape Martin’s sister. Allegation that coaches specifically asked Incognito to help “toughen up” Martin. Video has since surfaced of Incognito screaming the N word and otherwise raving lunatic-style. Today a story came out that Incognito was accused of sexual assault at a Dolphins charity event last year; no charge filed and victim now speaks only of a confidentiality agreement.
At the same time, Dolphins players have resolutely defended Incognito as a wonderful guy.
is this related to the comments in this or another thread here where Bono said he was told to toughen up someone
Yes, related, except it was Romo, not Bono. They’re both assholes, though, so easy mistake.
Also, to save you any more time wasted on internet research, it turns out the Mossad killed Arafat via Polonium poisoning.
isn’t that what FDR had?
No, that was Luis Polonium poisoning…guy just refused to ever take a fucking walk.
Ed is in quite the poached-egg-throwing mood.
Oh, honey.
i can’t believe i listened to that whole thing.
and how the fuck does he dare tell me what being a man is?
I wonder how large his testicles are.
Heh.
I’m not seeing Thor until tomorrow. :-(
I want to eat steak while watching it.
Let me know how it is. I’m going to go Sunday for my b-day after I gorge myself dotty on chips at Juan’s.
I’m alone in the movie theater right now.
:unzip:
Thanks, and go As.
I’m a daydreamer.
I feel like skipping.
A grade? But then you’ll be younger than all the other kids in class.
No, skipping. Let’s hold hands and skip down the street. To see Thor and eat steaks and scrambled eggs and play grabass.
Then I’d wind up with the black eyes.
And a smile on your face.
I say I feel like skipping until it actually happens. Then I jiggle and give myself black eyes.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!11!!?.,,,,.!!!!.,
congrats nigeria u-17. (if they really are all u-17.)
They only brought 19 players to the U17 world cup, because their 3 random players selected for the bone scans to determine age all failed.
Thanks, and go As.
I never heard of them doing bone scans before. That’s pretty wild.
This sort of cheating is what got Mexico banned from the 1990 World Cup, so Nigeria would be pretty dumb to screw around with over age players.
they already did in the african!
http://ghanasoccernet.com/ex-nigeria-star-amiesimaka-blames-nff-for-country-u17-age-cheating/
The stories on Damon Bruce and the Coachella Valley HS mascot are on SFGate today. Meaning that FK scooped the Chron.
pooper scoopin’ with the best of them.
Thor: to 3D or not to 3D? That is the question.
Jennifer will be reporting back shortly, I think. I’m going 3D. Was going to go IMAX 3D but don’t feel like going all the way to the city.
I went 2D because paying extra to wear TWO pair of glasses is dumb. Solid flick. Lots of laughs and action and surprises
3D is garbage. They do a shit job of it in general. And the tech is weak as well.
So our wedding video won’t be 3D.
Depends. If it’s anytime soon, no. If it’s in the future, I’m open to the possibility that someone out there will have successfully figured that shit out.
We’ll save the money on the video for the buffet and cake.
Yep. I gave 3D one more chance and was disappointed. I liked it better in the 80’s, but I was young so maybe I just didn’t know any better.
3D makes me nauseated. I hate putting those damned glasses on OVER my regular glasses. 3D is never the answer, unless someone asks MikeV’s favorite bra cup size.
They intentionally break the 4th wall the entire film. Having shit fly off the screen takes you out of the scene and is just plain distracting instead of cool. They need to treat the screen as the “unbreakable” wall it was meant to be. The scenery looks like card board cut outs standing up in the background. And even worse, they still have the Hollywood cut every 2 seconds which means your eyes have to readjust and refocus only to do it again.
My groggy, druggy post-dental surgery blog post about Minnie Riperton, who’d have been 66 today :)
From fangraphs, a look at home field advantage on foul territory. Turns out that it’s not a big effect, and the Coliseum has played pretty neutral, i.e. home and away defenses benefit equally.
2012-2013 is a very poor span to select. Our players the past two years have been new to the Coliseum and their positions.
I am willing to believe his conclusion that variations in foul territory probably don’t make a big difference, because they basically affect the home and away teams the same.
Oh, he’s probably right. But he choose a poor sample to really bring that home. The only way it could be an advantage is if there’s time built in to gain enough experience to use for an advantage. If they did this with Chavy in his prime and it balanced out, it would make the argument much stronger.
This seems like an article Kyli would have written.
Thanks, and go As.
That’s not a burrito, that’s a parfait!
has that ever actually happened?
this is one of the funnier things I have read in a bit.
nice
So is it wrong that I spent all my bitcoins on the twitter IPO?
12 minute video on the schedule makers. They were so much better than the current computer generated version.

Homemade chain mail Sharks jersey:
What, no mullet?
“it’s a jersey made of chain mail, it’s supposed to be old-school” – adorb.
Jose Offerman, on the lam.
$4.8 million? please.
You were playing for the long island ducks. a few thousand, sure.
Colts-what the heck? OMG Bengals last play of regulation–lolravens
Apparently every NFL team except for 4-5 basically sucks. The Raiders-Giants game was a perfect example. All this mediocrity makes for a lot of close games (LOL Ravens indeed!). But man, these teams mostly all suck, except for a couple of (who cares) NFC teams and the (fuck the) Broncos.
I’ve learned you Raiders types aren’t *all* bad. In fact, my dear friend who is a Raiders fan from birth just gave me an AWESOME old school snorty horse Broncos tee for my b-day. Though, to be fair and balanced, several years ago I did hold my nose to shop in a Raiders Locker Room to get my UPS man a Christmas gift.
Is anyone else’s 49ers broadcast completely effed up and choppy?
Yes, but I’m streaming it.
Thanks, and go As.
No.
Hmmm. Seems better now. It was strange since it was only game-camera shots (not commercials/studio replays), but maybe it was on my end.
That’s just a reflection of how the game is going.
Is anyone else’s 49ers broadcast showing a completely effed up and choppy offense?
Today should cost Greg Roman his job as OC. That was awful.
Thanks, and go As.
And dispel any excitement about Manningham.
Still, though, I bet we go 11-5 and win a playoff game.
Big disappointment considering they should have been SB contenders again.
Thanks, and go As.
Is it just me, or does Kaep seem way less sure of himself this year than last? He’s slow calling audibles, much like Smith was in ’11, but that’s ok. I think he’ll improve. I’m more concerned with how he seems less confident making tough throws, and when he’s under pressure and abandons the pocket he seems to prefer throwing it away to running with it. I understand that they don’t want him taking hits, but his legs are one of their best weapons.
I think when you have one offensive weapon, after Davis gets the concussion, you just feel shakey.
Yeah. I think it’s vintage bad-old-Alex. The OL can’t seem to pass block, and either our WRs are god-awful or Kaep can’t make good reads. No one looks good without protection.
If we can get Davis/Crabtree/Boldin/Manningham healthy for the playoffs, things should click better.
Kaep looks so much like Alex, it’s weird. Takes too long to call audibles, holds the ball too long in the pocket, checks down instead of trying to get the ball to his WR’s downfield.
Stuck in O’Hare on the way home from London – just what I was looking forward to.
Also, if United is going to provide me with information like that the plane I’m supposed to get on has been under repaired for the last 4 hours since returning to the terminal just after its last take off, then how can they expect me to believe it’ll be fixed in half an hour?
There is a Rick Bayless torta place in O’Hare that is decent. I think it’s over by American though, so maybe far from you.
Thanks – I’m parked in the United club for now, but if it does go long-haul I might make the trip.
Have people seen this? Terrible.
It is terrible. But I like awful things
FKing Southerners. Rat tails are worse than mullets.
We should have sold high on Donaldson before this hit the twitters. #dfabait
If someone wants to pay MVP level trade bait I would be ok with this.
yup
Whoa. We agree on something.
49ers and A’s fans… pretty sure we agree on lots.
That is a LOT of peanut oil!
Thanks, and go As.
A good defensive SS who can rake? I wouldn’t even know how to deal with that.
Here’s my latest bloggy adventure, complete with a special tasty cookie for those that have the sweet tooth, dental emergencies notwithstanding.
Dave Cameron:
Cespedes for Scherzer. Mix in pieces to get Andy Dirks back.
Interesting.
Thanks, and go As.
I think I would do that. One year of Scherzer is probably worth two of Cespedes, WAR-wise, and he’s probably not going to make much, if any, more than Cespedes next year.
Then again, I would also be willing to consider trading Cespedes for a biggish package of prospects.
I would support this if we could get something for Milone/Griffen
Got home from another rough day at my increasingly horrible job. And Turner Classic Movies is showing Dr. Strangelove! Whoo hoo! Think I’ll pour myself a grain alcohol and rainwater cocktail and enjoy!
Good news? Tomorrow I take a big girl nursey test. One more certification to sexy up my résumé. I can also be a lead ER nurse now (but I don’t want to be yet)!
Now look, Colonel Bat Guano, if that really is your name…
Haven’t seen it. :-(
You’re gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola company.
Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! This is the War Room.
He might see the big board!
My sister has been going on interviews at big places. Like, really big. All for that new graduate nurse thing.
Vanderbilt, Duke, Stanford, a couple San Diego hospitals.
Thanks, and go As.
I wanted to go to Vandy’s Forensic Nursing program, then I realized I’d mostly being doing rape kits. Sad face.
But I passed today! I can now run codes and stuff. Yay?
ass kicker
Aww, thanks. I ♥ you, Ed.
When/if you pass a nicu program, we can call you a little ass kicker.
Nice.
Nice win, bitch.
Thanks, bitch.
Like there was any doubt.
Yay!
rock ‘n’ roll!
Yay! Move here.
I need to. This place is killing me.
