    At this point, it would be a pretty ignorant move of Melvin to try and start Parker in game two. If he was somehow convinced that his extra year of experience enough to start him over Gray, I wonder if there would be any chance Beane would step in and so “f that”?

    • nobody in particular Sep 29,2013 3:41 pm || Up

      It’s a tough call but I agree, I think Gray should start Game 2, esp. cuz it’s here and esp. if we win Game 1.

      I guess the big mystery is does Leyland throws V or 21st Century Scherzoid Man at us to begin… and what time we’ll play. I prefer the day because of the sun factor and I think it’ll be packed to the hilt no matter what time it is.

    So I’ve been out of touch for a few days; what’s the current thinking on game times? With games being hosted in Oakland, St Louis, Atlanta and Boston on Friday they can’t be giving us all early times, right?

            Yeah, I can’t replicate that info, nor can I replicate what wacc said about TBS’s schedules. Both places now say times TBA across the board. We know where all the games will be now, MLB needs to just release the fucking definitive schedule.

            "Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
            • Soaker Sep 29,2013 4:28 pm || Up

              wac is correct about what the TBS website shows for Friday, but last year that didn’t correspond to the subsequent announcement. They could stick to that, though, which might put Tigers-A’s at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific) as the MLB Network game.

              With two games in the Eastern time zone and one in the Central on Friday, I don’t see how they could use an early time slot in Oakland. It would require a very late start somewhere else.

              Speaking of late starts, it looks like Chargers-Raiders will kick off at 8:30 p.m. Oakland time on Sunday. That allows Oakland to get the later game on Saturday, probably 5:00 or 5:30.

                Anyone know when they will put us out of our misery release the schedule?

                • dmoas Sep 29,2013 7:34 pm || Up

                  Not until the Wild Cards are decided.

                • FreeSeatUpgrade Sep 29,2013 7:40 pm || Up

                  I’m not so sure about that, whether it’s Cleve-Tex-Tampa vs Boston or Pitt-Cincy vs Atlanta shouldn’t make any difference to the calculus of MLB and TBS. I’m guessing they already know who’s starting when, and they’ll tell us tomorrow.

                  Of course, guessing that MLB will make an expeditious decision has been known to be foolish wishcasting.

                  "Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
                • dmoas Sep 29,2013 7:43 pm || Up

                  Cleveland & Tampa are EST whereas Texas is Central in terms of fan viewership. So I could see that weighing in some capacity. But ultimately, while it doesn’t matter, they tend to wait as long as possible before making those calls.

                • andeux Sep 29,2013 8:22 pm || Up

                  Last year the regular season ended on a Wednesday, and they announced start times for the first 4 days of DS games on Friday afternoon, before either WC game was played.

              • FreeSeatUpgrade Sep 29,2013 4:37 pm || Up

                St Louis I guess could host that late TBS slot at 7:30 local time, but I bet they wouldn’t like that.

                  On the two weekdays when that happened they were
                  1:00 at Washington or Cincinnati (TBS or MLB Network)
                  4:00 at Washington or Cincinnati (TBS)

              You do have to play well to win 10 straight but this was accomplished against:

              1. The Astros, who lost their final 15, and you can cherry-pick whichever longer term record you want. Their 21-60 over the second half isn’t much above the 1962 Mets’ 17-63-1.

              2. The White Sox (7-23 over their final 30; has Ventura been canned yet?).

              3. The Twins (5-20 over their final 25; I guess Gardy survives though).

        It is sad to realize that we’re done with baseball every day…knowing that the bad part of the year is not far away…but we’ll have many adventures before then, I think.

          I’ve had a great year. Thanks, guys. I love you all. You were supportive and encouraging, fun, and a distraction. I had a blast meeting everyone and hanging out. You guys make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I appreciate it so much. I want everyone to know how much they helped me without maybe realizing it. Thanks again. ♡

          It’s even worse for me. The wife says we’re getting rid of cable at the end of October, so this is my last season of being able to follow baseball on TV.

      I’m intrigued…what are the selections? Nothing worse than a bad hotel pillow.

      • Jennifer Sep 29,2013 10:13 pm || Up

        My selection: every pillow on the menu.

        • dmoas Sep 29,2013 10:38 pm || Up

          I was in a hotel a couple of weeks ago where all the fking pillows were throw pillows. There were like 20 of them. Not a single real pillow. W.T.F.

            That happened to me too in LA, on a queen sized bed there were probably 10 – 14″ x 14′ foam pillows, it was very hard to get the right pillow ‘shape’ and I slept like poop because of it…

          That sounds like heaven. What did you order!? Or is this getting too intimate?

                  It is possible to hook up to a keg tap and dispense beer or any other beverage through the nipple. Great for parties or weird events.

            At almost 2am I decided to spare the front desk that call; I think the default is the medium polyester.

    Uh, so there’s no chance of a BART strike next weekend right?

    • FreeSeatUpgrade Sep 29,2013 4:50 pm || Up

      Oct. 11 is the first possible day for a new strike, after teh cooling-off period ends. So it could fuck with the ALCS but not the DS.

      Not next weekend.
      Could happen starting 10/11 which is the day before the ALCS.

      I heard they would probably announce it earlier, but not begin it until the last trains ran on Sunday 10/13.

    While my boss said I could leave early, I was thinking 1 p.m. game, worst case. Not noon.

    Yeah, it was the Marlins. But Verlander allowed nothing.
