It’s getting to be that time of year, where I’m working so late that I can’t sleep no matter how tired I am, because I can’t get the inside of my head to just shut the fuck up. But I’m going to try (to shut my head up and sleep tonight, that is), so that’s why I’m going to be “absent” from this Lounge I’m starting. Because I’m selfish, I really just wanted to see whether posting looks different to me in the new layout. And I figured out (maybe) how to reinstall my avatar, so I guess I’ll also post a comment and see if it works.
I didn’t make it all the way through the… whatever you want to call what the first “tech issues” thread disintegrated to. I did see Bed say something about not posting Lounges, but I don’t know whether any new protocol was declared for how Lounges are to be posted. Or not. Whatever. If I missed something relevant and this Lounge’s existence is stepping on toes or ruffling feathers, I apologize… feel free to delete or replace as you see fit.
This is the comment I threatened to post.
Mmhmm.
i’m here. i’m lonely and i don’t sleep at night, but i know i should.
I’m sorry… if I didn’t need to get up in a few hours to start doing it all over again, I’d say “fuck sleep” and have a chat.
i need to say that and set that boundary. i hope to see you this week.
I’m sorry, you have exceeded your quota of posts for this thread.
Well, I’m doing it again. Bite me.
Next time I see you.
tuesday? i will bear witness.
I’m not back in town till Friday. Something about Jennifer and I not being allowed to be in Oakland at the same time.
that makes me sad. hope to see you for the friday fireworks dessertgate.
I’m still in town Friday!
So get up at 6am in Paris and go to a game which will end over 24 hours later …
Sounds like a plan!
You can meet me at the airport Saturday morning.
I don’t know, Jennifer & I might be the perfect storm of hermitude Tuesday.
the perfect storm of fabulousness.
I just love you to witchy bits, but I really am going to go try sleeping… I’ll see if I can find some approximation of sociability by Tuesday, Friday or Sunday…
i’m there tues, fri, sat, sun (late on sun) sooooo hope to see you poppy-love. seriously.
After I clicked to post my comment above, I can also see Poppy’s first one (which wasn’t shown while I was writing my comment). Is the thread “refreshed” when we post a new comment? Because that’s cool. Yay, new place.
Yes it is.
wow, we are in a thread together. ;)
Fire up the way back machine.
seriously.
Revisiting the scene of the mozzarella-balls-and-nutella breakfast crime, but there were no such abominations this morning.
I know we haven’t clinched the division yet, or even a wild card, but I already have a possibly unhealthy hate on for the Red Sox. I want to take down those ugly motherFKers bad.
Annual complaint that I have to “like” the Hall of Fame on Facebook, let alone be on Facebook, to vote for Bill King. Also, that the likes of Vince and Ray and FKing Mike Krukow are on the same ballot as Bill.
This, this, this, this and this.
well… only one way to be an also-ran.
i wonder what the vote skew is, btw. i know FB isn’t just for young people anymore, but wouldn’t there be a tendency for some people to be left out of the vote altogether and for other people to vote for “classics” (read: who’ve been around for 10 years) rather than someone from the past whom they’ve never heard of before?
Speaking of Bill, Ted Robinson dropped a reference to him on the 49ers radio broadcast last night during the weather delay. Something about how they were going to be getting to dinner later than expected and that he needed to remember the name of the oyster place where Bill had a running tab for meals after games at the Kingdome.
Aw hell. Egypt drew Ghana in the African World Cup qualifying playoffs. If Bob Bradley wins that, he could be the next Pharaoh if he wants it.
I don’t know Washington all that well, but it does seem odd that the Nationals are proceeding with tonight’s “showoff” (?) against the Braves, at least for now.
Very strange, considering that NAVSEA is almost next door to Nationals Park.
Yeah, that’s probably not a good idea.
They wisely re-thunk the matter. Doubleheader tomorrow.
Back in the Bay. I watched Game 162 on my iPad on the plane. Fortunately I was in first class so there was room to fist-pump.
Good news: the gates will be opening sooner for the Twins series!
Bad news: because we have to go through metal detectors and shit.
Oh for FK’s sake. Do you need to take off your shoes and put your sunscreen in a single quart-sized plastic bag too?
It’s fairly straightforward at Warriors games, but it does make the entry lines longer and slower.
Why now, is my question.
all metal detectors are calibrated differently. I have two belts that don’t set off most. try wearing your belt before you commit to always taking it off
I think I’m going with flip flops and sweat pants tomorrow. I’m tired and I haven’t packed yet. And I’m working.
it’ll be warm during the tailgate, but first pitch: 67º with a breeze. 60º around 10pm. adjust for 3rd deck, if 3rd deck.
It’s 60 degrees here now. Cold.
OMG, xmas weather in september? HOW DO YOU EVEN STAND IT!!!
that was what I thought when I moved to seattle.
Is there a tailgate planned for one of the last weekend games? Been out of the loop while in the Med but loving the scores. Back for the final weekend so if there’s ‘gatin going on we’ll be up for it.
I’m planning on going Friday.
I plan on getting there early. I have a grill.
I don’t know if it’s a fully sanctioned event. I don’t much care. I’ll have dead animals to eat and adult beverages to drink.
Thanks, and go As.
friday there is an aftergate, too. i was thinking of maybe doing some sort of brunchy thing on sat if there is interest.
Saturday! Saturday!
yes, yes, yes! brunchy tailgate thing on sat fo sho.
It’s on. See you tomorrow morning for mimosas and scones and your muffins! If anyone else wants to join we’ll be in the usual spot.
gonna have to start requesting they wrap my burritos in butcher paper, i guess…
This Nexus 4 screen sure is big. I can very nearly make out the Internet without bifocals now :D
According to the Twitter, Parker is healthy and starting tonight, Sonny Gray pushed back to tomorrow, but I haven’t found anyone reputable enough to quote.
Also:
Slusser is tweeting it.
Also Cespedes at DH.
Wait, that wasn’t Kara on the last homestand?
She’s been doing weekend games, but not weeknights before this.
Hallelujah. I can do without the between-innings “hostess” garbage altogether, but holy shit was that Kara substitute AWFUL. Just horrible and shrill. I could never understand a word she was saying because she was so loud and shrill.
So much for that “Lawyerball runs and Sonny” game thread title.
That would have been great, save that for future use.
Also I notice that your avatar (which at one point was Warren Zevon) is missing.
I saw his avatar drinking a piña colada at Trader Vic’s.
Well, considering that business with little Susie after the prom, my avatar needed a drink badly.
His hair was perfect (also explains abandoning the Cotroneo avatar).
Poor, poor, pitiful Soaker.
I like Chili, but the article on the A’s homepage is just dumb.
I love watching the Rangers
run into stupid outstry to make things happen on the basepaths and put pressure on the defense.Stay shitty, Matt Garza.
Man, the idea that they gave up good prospects for a Garza rental sure is appealing. I’d like to see the A’s dominate the AL West for a good solid decade, so these other teams need to keep signing the Pujolses and trading for the Garzas.
Random oddities about postseason pricing:
1. The prices listed for ALDS Game 3 are a couple of bucks cheaper than for the other two games except in Plaza Infield where they are the same.
2. Plaza Reserved (above the bleachers) are more expensive than the bleachers for Games 1 and 2 ($22 vs. $20), but cheaper for Game 3 ($15 vs. $16).
3. Field Level is more expensive than Plaza Infield. Wasn’t it the other way around last year?
It’s likely dynamic pricing. The earlier games are selling better than the later game at the moment.
That’s “Home Game 3” (or ALDS Game 5), the least likely to be played. Also those prices are the same as for the “Wild Card Game Presented by Budweiser”, so maybe the Belgians and Brazilians kick in for sponsorship of deciding games?
Have tickets gone on sale already? I thought it was tomorrow morning.
Selling to whom? Individual tickets aren’t on sale yet.
Anyway, it’s obviously because the third game might not happen, and people don’t want to deal with the refund.
3. No, last year MLB told the A’s (correctly) that Plaza IF is a better seat than Field Level out towards the foul poles, and made the A’s structure the prices to match. Looks like they’re doing that again this time.
That’s what I meant. But this year, Field Level is more expensive than Plaza Infield by five bucks.
Sorry, you said it right, I read it wrong. That is weird. I wonder if it’ll change back for the LCS and WS.
I know I am getting too overconfident when I am more annoyed about the Tigers winning than the Rangers losing.
I feel like they have to shut down Cabrera at some point. He really has not been moving well.
Can you buy playoff tickets at tomorrow’s game? I forget.
They go on sale at 10 am at the Coli and online. By game time there will probably be very limited availability, if any.
Anyone know how bad the stubhub inflation would be a week or so down the line? Is there still a decent chance of finding something for face value?
There will be considerable inflation if last year is any guide. Tickets were going for 2-3 times face value on Stubhub right up through the day of Game 3.
NYT: “you can’t throw faster.”
So I made it to LA. My luggage may or may not be with me.
ooh la la.
looks like fußball’s been watching football.
I just saw my luggage drive by! Woo!
Anyone lined up for playoff tickets? What’s the scene like?
from last year’s experience, you get better seats on the phone than in person.
I’m going the online route.
And it’s not working.
Demand seems to be much higher this year.
Last year logging in right when they went on sale I was able to get something like 217/4. This year 211/7 And I think they’ve already been dynamically priced up.
Yep. The prices are all higher. Plaza Infield is now selling above Field Level, because people are smart.
Singles only now for Game 1.
I was in the virtual waiting room, asked my friend to jump in and she got right in, no waiting room. Tried game 2, again, I couldn’t get in. She paid for game 1, popped right back in and bypassed the waiting room and got game 2. Ditto for game 3. I could never get in, and her computer skipped the waiting room each time.
Their system is WONKY!
It’s a mess. I managed to get a pair for Games 2 and 3, and a single for Game 1, but I had to work multiple browsers to get it done.
What’s even wonkier is that on my friends computer, it would not acknowledge my MLB account, so we created a new one to buy the tickets. When we went back in to get game 2, it wouldn’t acknowledge that account, so we created a 2nd “new” account. For game #3, you guessed it, we had to create a 3rd “new” account to get logged in. So now I have 4 MLB accounts. Thank goodness I had 3 spare emails lying around…
had a similar problem recently accepting tickets. unfortunately, i thought it was an issue of mlb acct vs A’s acct, so i used the same email and password for the new acct, and then somehow figured out that i did in fact have an A’s acct already, linked to that mlb acct. so i have 2 accts with the same email and same password both linked to mlb. this is so not gonna bit me in the ass later…
[rolls eyes at self.]
(am using the acct number rather than name to tell them apart.)
Scalper, scalper, fan, scalper, scalper posing as a fan…
From the annals of lame marketing:
It is weird posting here while the sun is still out.
Nice article by Mr. Cameron
Pretty good summing-up sentence here:
I would slightly rephrase that to say that they are making sure to avoid the areas where they would otherwise be weak.
A friend of mine wants to know if anyone wants to buy $45 a piece tix right behind angels dugout tonight
Hey non-season ticket holder game goers–G and I have two extra parking passes. If you need them, we will sell them to you at cost (I think they are $9? $8?). We will have them at the game today, Fri, and Sat. Let me know if you want one or both. (Please note that these are good for regular season games only.) xoxo
Down go (some) tarps.
Sec. 320 now available for Game 1 at least at $35 per.
being late for tickets I am in 315
Excellent!
Whoa, the Nationals win on a walkoff two-run error by Andrelton Simmons of all people.
Dude has stone hands.
I was there! Between the $4 tickets, easy upgrade to behind the home dugout, and sunny midweek day game, it felt a little like being back at the Coliseum.
and of course kurt suzuki catching
Epic John Sterling fail.

Well that didn’t work. Link.
I love how Waldman tries to salvage the whole thing, and also fails.
whut is she trying to say?
woooooo!
tonight on location, tomorrow across the nation,
this beastly boy is now on vacation!
I’m envious. I’m feeling burnt out.
Me too–I could not be more fried. It’s not a good idea at this point to start wishing it was January 1st already, right?
wait till october and make your wishes count.
:)
The amplifier will be triangulated, calibrated, and on.
been catching a lot of trek OS. wow, TV must have bad in ’66 for that show to make it into a second season.
also been catching a fair amount of fringe. makes me wonder what has to happen exactly for shows to be dated. and will they be dated equally, or is there a plateauing in the learning curve of TV production?
Fringe is weird… I like the characters, but all the stuff they do is convoluted.
plot got out of hand. i like the more mid-X-files-like, daily mystery + touch of ongoing arch + 1 fart and/or drug joke era.
basically, X files led to alias, and alias was great for alias, but it also ruined a lot of TV afterward that followed the ever-increasing, never-solveable, always-reversing levels of conspiracy model.
Fair assessment. I’ve had fun with it, but the plot did go off the rails a ways back.
so, i’m in woodstock. nice town. lovely weather right now. and i swear i just saw a guy still waiting for his ride home after the festival.
The New York Thruway is closed, man!
One of our best friends, who lives in Manhattan, has a place there. We’ve had some good times visiting him there, it is a nice town.
we picked up the real estate flyers and are seriously considering it.
If you are serious, I can put you in touch with our friend and he can talk to you about neighborhoods, realtors, etc.
“serious.” R spent last night trying to convince me that winter would not kill me, which i conceded to the degree of winter might not kill me. there’s still a of talking to be done.
OK, you know how to get in touch if you want to. He’s up there almost every weekend so is probably there now. He’s the one who introduced me to P, so a very close friend. Not that I’m trying to get rid of you…
pslinger as it were
wait, if getting rid of me is slinging, what did you just call me?

related, photo of local base ball club (p. 106).
looks like a catchers mask?
SLINGING. Not flinging. Clean your ears AV.
