Yeah. That sounded good in an I’m-way-too-lazy-to-spend-days-making-a-reuben kind of way.
Maybe I should invite you over to lunch sometime. My primary mode of avoiding doing anything productive with my life (aside from FK) is spending days making things I could otherwise buy.
I presume JP falls into that category.
“full private stewardry of labor”
But that would be cheaper, whereas the stuff he does make instead of buy probably winds up being more expensive.
We seriously should do something at some point. This weekend is bad though (Mrs. Nevermoor is running a half-marathon in SJ)
Best thing for me would prolly be either meeting at the FBFM some Saturday morning (I drag JP down there with me most every week), or maybe at “your” (Polk St) or “my” (Van Ness/Bush) Peet’s later in the afternoon on a Saturday.
If the two of you get together, you should send out a press release saying it was FK gathering attended by “dozens.”
Thousands. Everyone passing by is attending.
I’m not positive, but I’m fairly certain I’m more culturally hip and socially active just by knowing mb and nm.
And your links and pic made me go get a reuben tonight.
I am also intrigued by Ruhlman’s recipe for curing olives. One of the stands at the FBFM sells unprocessed olives.
Reuben’s with pastrami are an abomination. Corned beef, or nothing.

(I like this one because it’s got the map in it…the map, whose theme song has been seared into my brain…)
I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map, I’m a map!
All in all, I preferred Steve from Blues Clues’ mail song.
Isn’t pastrami smoked corned beef?
Isn’t sauerkraut fermented cabbage?
The fattiness of a good pastrami is too much with the kraut and dressing on a reuben…flavors don’t contrast as nicely as they do with corned beef, imho.
I logged on during the pitching change to predict that pulling Lackey meant the Angels (up 4-0 at the time) were about to lose. My diversion into reubenism cost me some serious Krautstradamus points.
Well, as the author sez, you can corn just about any cut of beef — so the pastrami doesn’t have to be especially fatty (and the plain Jane corned beef can potentially be fatty as well).
“Waxing Reubenesque,” surely.
I like Reubenesque females. Plus that bastard Ringling has several Reubens. Does that earn me bonus points?
Strange you should mention him. The statue place next to the sign shop was purchased by one Paul Rubens about 15 years ago for his brother.
