Good morning FKlings,
I’ve never put up a game thread here before… OK, I admit I sometimes kinda miss the photo-monographic excursions of days gone by. Then I think of how much work (free labor) it was and I stop the nostalgia train right quick, just blow the whistle on that sh*t before the sentimental music starts playing on my inner jukebox and I gets carried away.
One or two a year won’t kill me though, with all you fine people always taking the time to do it, so I am losing my Thread Cherry with this one… sorry no pictures, and I’ll likely (OK definitely) be sleeping for the beginning of this 11:10 am OAKtime start. I don’t even know the lineups, cuz Bob Melvin and Ned Yost are still sleeping at 4:52 am Pacific time. Someone please put those at the bottom of this when they come out if you wanna… I bet Slusser’s twitter feed will have ’em as they happen. I know AJ Griffin is pitching against someone named Luis Mendoza, and that Adam Rosales still sucks harder than an Oreck XL plugged into an Orgasmatron.
But so what? We are in 1st place and looking like a WS contender, so celebrate with a magical little zip folder containing something I been compiling the last coupla days… it’s some of the most polyrhythmically mind-crushing FunK ever made on Earth, all from the country that gives The Ghana Funk Folder its name.
Bon appetit to the first ten to click the link and I hope the A’s wipe the floor with the Royals, with our guys who got snubbed by Seligula’s All-Star Circus Selection Show going a combined 33-for-41 with 12 HR, 23 RBI and 6 saves in just this one game. You heard what I said about how only the trophy will do now — and how those that have shown such disrespect for so long must be made to kneel and beg forgiveness in front of the whole world as they hand Beane the hardware in the Fall — and I meant it.
Love all you guys,
nobody

Homeward we go, it’s Victory!
I am looking forward to checking out the mix!
That one above isn’t from Ghana; they’re from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kansas City has some beautiful, shady residential neighborhoods off to the south of town, fine for morning exercise walks before the temperature hits the forecast high of 93 (with humidity, since there was a little rain last night). Other than going for said walks, and eating and drinking a lot, and watching the Royals and Chiefs arrrrgh, I’ve never quite figured out how one would enjoy life as a Kansas City resident. Most of the area seems to be run-down dreck with Dollar General the dominant retailer. I’m not sure how people who live here kill their time before they can escape.
Did you get to check out Chappell’s?
Yes, I went by yesterday and wandered around in there after the game. That guy does have a big collection, lots of interesting photos especially from the Kansas City A’s days. Also you realize the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 1970 and have done almost nothing since.
Excellent. It’s good history for any A’s fan, among others.
and this:
Hell yeah.
Appearantly, on my old phone, I had a screw up that allowed me to get a text version of all my VMs. It was wonderful. I could get the gist, and never had to sit and listen.
I lost it with my new phone, and AT&T says what I had cant be done. But fir a time it was glorius.
Maybe it’s a hearing impaired service?
Could be. They THINK it may have benn a VM to text message service they have combined with the cloud messaging app I have, but the txt service is $10 a month and I was never charged or shown to have it on my bill. And, if it is, they are getting rid of it next month, so it would be a waste to get it.
Im sure I can find something, I just have to look around.
WTF. If this shit is true, all of them should be tried for treason.
I know, right? I can’t begin to understand why a DV situation would need a “tactical advantage.”
It really doesn’t matter what they needed a “tactical advantage” for. What they did was a gross abuse of their constitutional rights regardless of the supposed reason for it.
Wow. I’m trying to think of what the other side of the story could be that would make those police actions reasonable, and coming up with nothing.
I love the fact they are claiming a violation of their 3rd amendment rights.
Well, it was. So they should.
I don’t know whether the cops are “Soldiers” or whether this counts as “quartering,” but I’d love to find out. I would think this is a pretty straightforward Fifth Amendment “takings” case, actually.
I think it qualifies. It’s basically a government seizure/invasion of private property by a localized regiment.
but yeah, what is the other sides view
Presumably the cops will claim they perceived some imminent threat from the neighboring domestic violence suspect, such that they needed the use of the plaintiff’s house in order to protect public safety.
presumably. But that can almost never be the case. If it were the case, we would have heard of the thwarting of a terrorist cell.
Yes. Also, probably the terrorist cell appreciates the advance notice they get when you mass your police forces and break down the door of the house across the street.

Think it’s time to ban him.
Yes, but I think only nm has a banning wand.
Total of three deleted so far today.
I’m on it.
Great soundtrack for a Sunday morning – thanks.
glad you like it :)
Hello, good people, howzabout a Sunday victory with a side of revenge from Donaldson and Balfour. I’m thinking eight homers by JD and two saves by Balfour, all in one game.
For a few moments there I thought the TV feed was going to give us nothing but blissful natural sound. Then they found the switch to turn on Glen and Ray’s mics. Mute button engaged!
But you’re missing their opinions on the all-star game!
Yes, yes, I am!
Mendozaaaaaaa!
I get that Nakajima is a bust, but can it really be true that he is worse than Rosales?
I, for one, refuse to believe it.
Hitting .274/.340/.383 in the PCL and by all accounts can’t really handle either middle infield position. I’d say yes.
I never thought I would be saying this, but this team really misses Cliff Pennington.
Have you seen his slash lines with Arizona this year?
Yikes! He’s still a plus defender though.
only at 2b
He was very meh from what I saw Friday. Going again tonight with less kids so I might have more thoughts then. Green on the other hand, was hitting ropes all night. Grain of salt since the Grizzlies are last place, but the bat looked good.
Man…if ever I should have gone out and made a prediction…
Nice!
Reddickulous and Keebleriffic!
I like this.
Ice to see you!
Now let’s have another meeting…in bed.
I know the reality is that good teams are supposed to beat on so-so teams, but I’m going to assume this really is the team pissed about the selections.
My friend ask me what Oakland was like. Her: “Is it like Compton?”
Does your friend have a lot of experience with Compton?
No. She’s once had a panic attack at a gas station in St. Louis and couldn’t get out of the car. I’m sure it was really a suburb of STL.
Tell her the drug dealers were pretty nice, but the damn prostitutes just wouldn’t take no for an answer. So I just got high and fked them.
that is what i thought of
Both cities are important in rap music history, at least.
I’m glad that our offense is so good that we can afford to give up one or two outs on the basepaths every game.
(posted just before the Reddick HR)
What was Moss emoting about in the dugout?
His skills at reading pickoff moves?
Being snubbed for the ASG
That’s for the middle infielders.
I’ve come to realize that Fosse’s generic nice thing to say about A’s position players who kind of suck, current or past, is “He’s had some big hits for the A’s.” Most recently heard re Kottaras and Chris Young.
I so badly want to hear him saying that about Rosales, ASAP.
How great would that feel?
I would be so awesome.
Like a hair brush made of rusty nails slapped upside my face.
You never will, because Fosse doesn’t call AAA or NPB games.
It’s only the 5th? It feels like we’ve been playing a lot longer than that.
Safe!
Well I see my inaugural attempt at threadage is going reasonably :D
He’d probably appreciate the Rally Salma.
Huge Ass Likes Huge Tits
Nice
I am very rapidly losing patience and confidence in Blevins.
Eh, he’s never been a guy who is so good that he can get away with missing locations. I figure he’ll get his touch back and be OK.
Good time for Blevins to get some extra work in with Curt Young.
He was out of sight beginning of the year, but had a terrible June, and has been underwhelming since.
SSS of course
June 15.4 K% / 11.5 B%, 6.31 xFIP
and for comparison:
Mar/ Apr 26.7 K%/ 1.7 B%, 3.29 xFIP
Suddenly this slow meander towards an easy victory has gotten perilous.
Outs guys. We need to get some. These royals are a pesky bunch.
I get up for five minutes. FIVE MINUTES….
Tejada looked safe to me.
Out!
Fk this shit.
Wait a sec – last close-up replay looks like Chavez got there just before Tejada’s hand.
Way too close to dispute, can’t fault an ump for that.
He had shitty positioning on that one.
Looked safe live, but would have been easy replay overturn.
With the exception of Colon, our pitchers’ fielding sucks prodigiously.
Not bad from Jesse Chavez, notwithstanding the two inherited runners who scored.
What I can say about that one is it’s too close to call in real time given the positioning of both players and umpire. And yes, Chavez should not have hesitated in going toward first.
KEEBS
KEEEEEEBS
That’ll do elf, that’ll do.
Let’s GO HousTON
Sogard pissed that he was left off the all-star team.
He’ll be a starter in the American Optometric Association game.
9 sogards…
Inadvertent radio-TV synchronization: radio guys playing Joe Angel saying “You can wave that one bye-bye” as the TV showed Colon waving at someone.
Yes, close in real time (and probably doesn’t matter) but
video
I think the guy realizes quickly that he can sell this video as long as he says “Oh my God” and “Holy FKing shit”.
and not, I mean.
I would definitely tune in and watch the Saul Goodman Half-Hour Comedy Hour.
We spent the holiday getting completely caught up on Breaking Bad! (Thanks to the first half of season 5 being On Demand in preparation for the 2nd half to kick off next month… so we’re actually caught up, not just caught up in that “didn’t start watching right away and so are perpetually one full season behind because we have to watch it on Netflix” way of being “caught up.”)
I’m “Netflix caught up” on so many shows, leaving me completely unable to talk about them with anyone.
Yeah, I’ll probably start soon on becoming NCU on Game of Thrones…
Jesse Chavez, long-form relief pitcher.
He’s throwing strikes, I like it.
Jesse Saves
First of his career!
Heh, they played that exact same clip of the guy cutting into that brisket yesterday.
I noticed that. Lame.
Victory
Also, I hope they show us video of Primanti Brothers at PNC Park.
I hope they shoot enough footage for different shots, though.
Victory! Sweaty humid victory!
I
drank $29 worth ofspent $29 on beer. 2 out of 3 and nobody goes on the DL, so a much better outcome than I usually get for an A’s road series. That was a long game. I started a few minutes in, watch until the 4th, went on a long walk with my wife, and returned to find it was only the 8th.
Good outcome, though. Agree about Twiggy. He’s a location pitcher, effective when he hits them, not so much when he doesn’t.
:-)
Sassy.
Go Astros go!
DO it Vern.
Keith Law is a douchebag part CMXIII (from his insider piece re: All-Star game selections):
So, for the same reason, Yasiel Puig should also be disqualified from consideration.
BUT HE’S EXCITING AND HE’S CUBAN!!!!
It would be ok for him to argue in favor of Cabrera and Longoria’s track records, but Machado has fewer Major League PA than Donaldson. Law claiming that Machado has a better track record than Donaldson is entirely due to the fact that Law scouts prospects and liked Machado, but never payed attention to Donaldson. Putting down Josh to cover some shortcoming in his own scouting is pretty weak.
This.
I suppose the second half of last year doesn’t count toward Donaldson’s resume. If anything, it actually hurts him slightly compared to what he’s done so far this year:
.319/.388/.536/.924
His slash line since coming back up in August 2012 – if I’ve done this right – which is about 80% of a complete season:
.309/.377/.519/.896
134 games, 560 PA, 499 AB, 77 R, 154 H, 34 2B, 1 3B, 23 HR, 83 RBI, 51 BB, 97 SO
Stretch that out over a full season, assuming no time missed:
162 games, 677 PA, 603 AB, 93 R, 186 H, 41 2B, 1 3B, 28 HR, 100 RBI, 62 BB, 117 SO
Also:
AUG/SEP last year: .290/.356/.489/.844
2013: .319/.388/.536/.924
Lolgiants.
Yeah. Romo deserved that one.
Huh. He comes off as a pretty affable, if slightly dim, guy on the KNBR morning show, but I guess that’s because he’s getting paid. Either way, FK Schulman.
When he’s sassy? Salty? Sultry?
sexxy.
Thanks to everyone who gave me a ride while I was in CA. Big thanks to Ed for letting me stay with him. I had a blast and your family is adorable and so friendly.
it was fun.
We are mostly harmless
I was having a safety meeting on the patio and I got to thinkin’… what if the real (perhaps unconscious) reason Selig and MLB have left the A’s out to dry and disrespected/denigrated/marginalized all things Oakland Athletics for so long now is that deep in the recesses of the minds of the powers that be, they get that if the A’s win anything — say, the big trophy, which not even the detached, objective observer can’t say hasn’t been realistically in play for the last calendar year — some very disturbing dominos fall on Selig’s overall plan to corporatize MLB to the point where attendance no longer matters as anything but optics for the mise-en-scène: cheering in the background for the TV deals he’s pushing to make the cornerstone of the franchises he favors (i.e., the rich teams).
To wit:
Domino one: A’s continue torrid play through October. Beane finally wins the last game as fans cause small-but-seismically-observable October 12th earthquake on Hayward fault from thunderous support mounting through September to the joyous conclusion. Momentum from momentary ring-toxicated delirium manufactures passion/consent for downtown/JLS-area ballpark and Oakland/East Bay renewed embrace of franchise upon occasion of 5th championship & 10th overall. Franchise is acknowledged, at last, as a cornerstone of innovation and preeminence in the sport and the global sports media complies for a minute. Stadium situation logjam breached by broader focus on plight of preeminent, storied franchise, tied with STL and second only to NYY in 100+ years of trophies.
Domino 2: Ensuing lovefest — where long-held feelings of despair and disillusionment are at last resolved, akin to being rescued off a desert island by Bob Melvin in a luxury speedboat he got cheap off Craig’s List — causes rush on all things A’s at the micro and the macro. We the hardcores, on down to the casuals who have traded in their Hunter Pence jerseys for gold alts and have been wondering since July if the A’s have scored a touchdown yet, causes Seattle-1995-style miracle and impetus materializes to begin real shot at downtown Oakland facility. In the process, ownership finally breaks through to see what has cut them off from their product’s natural, blue-collar constituency all this time, even as they have half-heartedly acknowledged just this truth with tepid “Green Collar Baseball” sloganeering… whilst simultaneously seeking San Jose ballpark only Silicon Valley CEOs and their entourages will be able to afford to attend. The men at the top are Epiphanized and get over their distaste and sense of dismissal for anyone with an income under $500,000/year and start to figure out that ten million crazed devotees with one dollar are way better than one disinterested clown with ten million dollars who can’t stop checking his E-Trade app in his luxury box. They begin to market the thing accordingly to an adoring region and world that identifies with the self-same struggles in their own lives: that of competing effectively against people with often superior resources and coming out on top… just as it hits its peak efficiency with a two-season overall record (including playoffs) of 207-140.
Domino 3: Look, I’m fantasizing, but why not visualize what I’d like to see?? It’s my thread, and I’ll dream if I want LOLOLOLOL :D
So anyway it happens… they figure out how to mitigate the train tracks so little kids don’t get run over by the Capitol Corridor staring at the 50-foot statue of Dennis Eckersley and it gets built next to JLS there in what they call Howard Terminal. Dominance and winning makes the obstacles melt away and it gets going, cobbled together from several different sources from Don Knauss to George Zimmer to Brad Pitt’s accountant in Somalia. Almost overnight, Billy Beane suddenly has a maintainable budget in the middle (rather than the perennial bottom) of the pack at roughly slightly less than half of whatever the biggest payroll happens to be. He’s got luxury suites, he’s got corporate sponsorships and naming rights…. he’s even generated enough residual interest to put a down payment on building a TV deal around the A’s and their century-plus worth of historical flavorings. On top of it all, they all know they’ll never SEE the trophy again based on the squad he is able to put on the field, where just a few more million in payroll is made to look like billions by him on a regular basis.
While he’s at it he’ll continue this once-a-decade project of totally redefining how the game is scouted and played and how teams are put together without unnecessary waste, en route perhaps to being installed in the HoF as the first GM to go in for being a GM, as Moneyball and its sequel(s) play on infinite loops in the display onsite in Cooperstown.
You can all laugh — heck, even I’M laughing — but somewhere, Bud Selig had an unscratchable itch in a very uncomfortable, impolite location JUST FROM ME TYPING THIS SHIT. If, by some unprecedented alignment of the Universe with the whims of the Baseball Gods it all goes according to my fantasy plan, then we are all drinking tequila shots out of the trophy in the “West Side Club of the future” in a couple of years, because no other team or their fans even believe they have any chance of prying it out of the Five Ten ever again.
Domino 2 should have happened after last year. And actually, it might have, as manifested in the attendance spike we’re seeing now.
He has no idea that that squirrel was in the animal-world equivalent of the Rolling Stones until very recently.
I’m glad he said it was a ground squirrel.
Well, it clearly wasn’t a water squirrel!
He could be concerned if the squirrel was dead before or after it hit the water.
hey-o
You know, this is awesome. Ordinarily when I see something this fantastic in the sky mall catalog it’s for some jerk wad team like the Yankees or cowboys. So when they feature MY team? You know I’ve gotta have one!
I get the sense from Sky Mall that Cowboys fans will buy anything with that damn star on it.
There might be a tiny aviator cap floating around in the pool…
The Moose did it!
Mark Mulder, the CDC has you covered!
HOWEVER! If you find a dead pre-weened calf or lamb in your pool, also follow the special Hyperchlorination to Kill Cryptosporidium procedures.
FUCK YOU MOOO!
Sorry, I just confused cryptosporidium and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. The shame.
Yeah, I make that mistake all the time.
Isn’t that the shits? /medical joke
Toxoplasmosis and cytomegalovirus too. But those are both opportunistic infections, so it doesn’t really count.
Aren’t we all, at heart.
GREEN PULLED FROM STARTING LINEUP IN FRESNO! THE TWITTER SEEMS TO CONFIRM OUR NIGHTMARE MAY BE OVER!!! YES IM SHOUTING!!!
IS THIS REAL DON’T TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS
Scoop?
Worst part is I should have scooped the world by like 2 hrs..
Lil Miss Aces begged me to go to the game today because some Disney channel actress was there doing autographs. So we went early to make sure there wasnt a crazy line or anything.
We get to the park about 5:15 and head over to the line up by the Grizzlies clubhouse store. On the wall next to the store they had the lineups posted and GG was listed. Then, about 15 minutes later, the PA guy starts giving the lineups and it was different. Now the crowd was small tonight and had a “I dont give a FK its still near 100” attitude, so a part of me thought maybe it was last night’s lineup posted. But the SP was the right one for tonight.
Then I got caught up talking with my daughter and the family in front of us. Game starts, actress comes out, we get pics and autograph, go get food, find seats we want to sit in, get into the game. It was almost 2 hrs until I thought to grab my phone and see if anyone had heard anything…
Lil Miss Aces even ended up getting a ball one of the River Cats tossed up. All in all, it was a good day.
Locke’s a lefty, so the timing makes sense. I wonder if we’re going to see a Green/Sogard platoon or full-time Green.
They didn’t pitch hit for Sogard against the lefty while doing so for Jaso. And Sogard popped his first HR. I was hoping that was a sign.
I just asked her a couple minutes prior if she could confirm. Those would seem to be pretty reliable sources.
Wait, Cotroneo’s on it too!
Oh, nevermind.
To be fair, those Primanti Brothers sandwiches are pretty awesome.
Hee
I haz excite
Has to be Rosales DFA and Sogard now the backup SS/part-time 2B…right?
nope, with the ASB, they can send Straily back. or chavez.
No, put Rosie out of his misery. FINISH HIM.
This.
Slusser seems to think it’s Rosie. Anyway, it can’t be Straily since he’s pitching Tuesday. And if Chavez goes down I’m sure it will be for Scribbles.
Oh, right. I keep forgetting he pitched thursday.
Ooooh.
Can we go here to buy the game snacks?
you have been waiting for this moment
Grant Green!!!!
[head explodes]
I sang this song while placing BobbleScott on the shelf.
DayWeekMonthYear: made. Thanks again. Sorry I missed you. I’ll have to come back soon. I really liked you FKers. Well, except FSU. He’s a dick.
So close, and yet so far.
Where were you, mister?
You were in town?
This.
How did you guys miss me talking about it non-stop for six months? Also, I’m thinking about coming back in September.
Do it.
I’d probably freeze to death.
September is the warmest month here by average high temperature. (June-October are all very close to the same)
Really? Interesting.
Less fog.
link
Do it. (Just not when the A’s are in Minnesota, because I will be too.)
Yes! Come back!
OK, so I knew you were in town (and was even angling to pick you up in Oakland until FSU covered it) but I never got to know your plans in enough detail to, y’know, meet and stuff.
TO be fair, I didn’t see her much and she stayed with me.
We had fun though. I did anyway.
To be fair, there’s lotsa dungeons in these environs. I’m told.
I was trying to stay out of your hair during your time off. :-(
Also, I had a blast.
Sad face.
Oh crap. You can read that?
Congrats to Grant Green. Am I the only one who wants to wait and see before getting excited?
I think more people are excited at the possibility of Suck Ass no longer tossing the salad than over the potential of Grant Green.
This
dmoas called it, after Saturdays game I’m finished, don’t care how many nice defensive stops, flukey dingers, or rare clutch hits he makes, I’m ready to move on.
I was endeared by your goofy hustle in 2011, cooled on you greatly in 12′, looking forward to it all being a memory in 13′.
I miss suck ass already.
And if anyone should, it should be blow ass.
yup
I’ve seen Green enough in spring training to think this is a sideways move, but it’s always nice (if only for a little while) to get rid of the tired old toy and unwrap the shiny new one.
I agree with this
Someone remind me how long UZR takes to “normalize” — you cant’ really look at Longoria’s +10 or Machado’s +15 right now on Fangraphs and take that as fact, right?
Thanks, and go As.
Like 2 year, no?
I dunno thats why i was asking
Thanks, and go As.
The number I remember is three years, but it could be two years.
But “normalize” is a pretty vague term — it must refer to a particular threshold of regression-to-the-mean but I don’t know what that threshold is usually chosen to be. My best guess is that “normalize” means that once you hit that point, you would weight the individual performance at 50% and the group performance at 50%. Machado has 1200 innings of UZR data, which seems to be about one year. Longoria has nearly 6000 innings, so his UZR/150 of +18.4 is much more reliable than Machado’s. On the other hand, I think it’s reasonable to interpret the UZR data to suggest that Machado probably really is a plus defender (scouting reports help too); I just wouldn’t treat his particular UZR/150 number (+22.8) with much weight.
But we should be able to look at Machado’s 2013 UZR number (not UZR/150) and conclude that he really has been worth 15 defensive runs above the average 3B, no, whether by chance or not? We need ~3 years to determine whether that’s his true talent level, but unless we can say with some certainty that his small sample UZR actually reflects the plays he has made this year, then it’s pretty useless to look at fWAR as a comparison.
That assumes the accuracy of the defensive metrics in general. I’m not anywhere near sold on the valuation of defensive stats. I think their margin of error is too high, at least in how it related to WAR. That’s not to say that Machado isn’t a plus defender, but it could be as little as 5-10 runs or has high as 20-30 runs.
Sure, whatever the error bars are between the two, they certainly overlap, so we can’t say with confidence that Machado has been better than Longoria, but he probably has been.
No argument from me there.
Not necessarily, as UZR does not claim to describe what happened with accuracy, either.
Huh. So why use it as a component in WAR?
The same reason to ever use any noisy measure of anything – as a best estimate of something that is hard (or in this case really impossible) to measure directly.
Using Field FX would make it decisively more precise, but as it is not public domain data…
“The best we have” rule, I guess.
Do you think it’s better than Defensive Runs Saved or whatever else people are using?
I think there are few similarly valuable tools out there now, such as UZR, Dewan’s Plus Minus and whatever the rest of them are called.
They all depend in a certain way on human judgement of where the ball was hit to and how hard it was hit. They try to be systematic about it in their own specific ways.
I think it is an obvious improvement from using human judgement to say whether a play should have been made using ordinary effort (fielding percentage). It is very probably an improvement over what is basically a simple counting of the plays made by a player (like Range Factor).
However it is leaps and bounds worse than what Field f/x would provide us, just as someone charting the pitches thrown by hand is worse than Pitch f/x.
Makes sense. Thanks.
well… reportedly, he was pretty good defensively but he played 1B. (or are you thinking of tinker?)
When did Machado play 1b?
Do you Evers top?
:)
He likes to tinker with people’s comments
Not a chance.
This is the saddest of possible threads.
asvd
Yes, “normalizing” and “stabilizing” are the terms I pretty much dislike when talking about baseball stats, as it somehow implies that once any magical threshold is reached, the veracity of the statistical story digitally flips from 0 to 1.
And you are correct, the most established level of regressing is towards a point where you hit that 50/50 break-off you described.
This pitcher the A’s are facing tonight has one of the more ridiculous gulfs between results and peripherals I have seen this late in a season.
ERA: 2.12
FIP: 3.86
xFIP: 4.22
The A’s marketing department has really stepped up their freebie game this year. This Oaklandish T is one of the better clothing giveaways I can recall.
Im waiting for my everything I learnd about stealing I learned in Oakland shirt giveaway
I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but that’s funny.
it is
but don’t just leave him hanging there…
Learned is spelled correctly there, though :(
Feels to me like them even using an Oaklandish design for a giveaway shirt is a step for the team, given the “STAY” shirt could’ve been seen by the team as something they didn’t want to be associated with since they want to go to San Jose.
Yeah, that surprised me too, I would not think those organizations would be friendly.
Also, Oaklandish changed their Rollie skull design. The one I have is wearing an A’s cap and says “Dio de los A’s” below. The newer ones say Oakland on the cap, and nothing below, presumably to avoid trademark violations.
Do we know how they’re getting away with the Charlie O. mule shirt? I’m guessing the generic ‘A’ on the cap, because when they were in KC there was a version of it with ‘KC’ and I have a World Series ticket from the 70s that shows a cap as well and it’s ‘A’s’ instead.
Also, given that a couple of the relief pitchers (Doolittle and Blevins, IIRC) did an All A’s segment at Oaklandish, things must be fine.
This just cries out for cockamamie theories about Lew Wolff giving up on San Jose.
or they realized stay is a friendlier message than the alternative, even if you *want* to leave. from the archives:
What’s the deal with that?
someone in oakland printed those signs up and put them up as “art” around the time of oakland’s art murmur for december last year. (am totally in favor of clandestine art, but am also in favor of clandestine art criticism…) so i made it a point to formulate a critique whenever i saw one. saw 3 total.
Weird, but well done.
Best part? Kelly Green!
Cannot be said enough.
Agreed. I also heard they are going with the vests that day as throwback uni. Really sad I won’t be there to see it in person.
I might have to try going to that game.
But, but, BUT HE PLAYS THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY WHAT A HOSE HEY LOOK HE SPRINTS OUT HIS HOME RUNS
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
thank the baby jesus
BRB gonna do a backflip
Rosales isn’t much of a player, and I guess Green would be a better platoon partner for Sogard on offense, but Sogard as backup SS worries me.
Rosales as a back up ss didn’t bother me. I don’t think Sogard as a back up ss will bother me.
Lowrie as the starting SS, isn’t terrible. but its not ideal
Lowrie is Jeter bad defensively, but at least he can hit. Sogard….well….
Sogard’s a decent defensive second baseman. I don’t think we’ve seen enough of him at short to know whether he would be much worse than Lowrie.
right, once every 2 weeks at short. Fine. Rosales the same, Rosales against all lefties and rightines when Lowrie is out/resting, not fine.
So Lowrie is going to start winning GGs?
Does Green as a back up SS worry you more? (I think the answer is yes).
Yes
Trivia: What do Yoenis Cespedes and Tim Hudson have in common?
They both played for the A’s.
Haha. Not that.
They both have “motherFKing” for a middle name?
Height?
Closes eyes and waits for bar fight news in 3…2…1…
They both have an “i” in their first name and an “s” in their last.
we have to be welcomed to them?
None of you are all that close, yet.
They are the father of my hypothetical children?
No, they’re the hypothetical father to my very real children!
Here’s a big hint: it has to do with what they’ve worn with the A’s.
Uniforms!!!
Getting closer.
They’re both sexy and they know it!!!
Fake handlebar mustache?
Haha
Game faces
They are both people who have never been in my kitchen.
I’ll have to take your word for it.
Winner
A few people on Twitter got it.
(They’ve both worn #52)
Speaking of t-shirts, check out the one A.J. Griffin is wearing here.
That’s his Opening Day Designs shirt. The guy who does them made one design for each player and coach (and one for all the broadcasters) and then got fans to sponsor giving each one a free shirt.
I’m sure the fan sponsorship is a good gimmick to get people interested, but I bet he could have afforded to just give a shirt away to each player (and the players could afford to buy them, of course).
Addison Russell is #19 on BA’s midseason prospect list.
Am i the only one with non loading new commnet widget?
Been happening to me intermittently.
Thanks, and go As.
Were you at the airport Saturday morning?
No I was in Tahoe.
Thanks, and go As.
I thought I saw you (or your twin) in line in front of me at the airport. It was scary. I think the guy thought I was stalking him.
Oh.
Nope, it wasn’t me. I didn’t even get out of bed until almost noon Saturday.
Thanks, and go As.
I think you mean you were scared he’d realize you were stalking him, right?
good to hear, I suppose. I still want Rollins.
I want Utley
I want a real SS
Find one that’s obtainable and cheap.
ok
I WANTED HANLEY DAMMIT
I think MikeV has hijacked doctorK’s account.
I was actually wondering if Hanley might become available again. The Dodgers seem to think they are buyers right now (just got Nolasco) but that could change before the deadline.
I can’t see them falling that far out of it. Too much talent on that roster, and too crappy a division.
this. its really sad
also hes hitting like 400
Yeah, he’s working on saving my fantasy season singlehandedly.
I’d take either one, slight preference for Utley.
I want better than the A”s have now
I think you look at GG for 2 weeks and if he shows signs of flailing, you pop on a deal for…. not Chase Utley.
Personally I try to get M. Young, a player who plays all 4 infield positions well and who got that way from being fucked around by our principal competition in the division, a team I’d speculate he’d like to embarrass on the field en route to that elusive ring he was one out away from, twice.
I think you left out some words.
Michael Young, a player who plays all 4 infield positions like his foot is caught in a well.
I think he meant “Michael Young, a player who play all 4 infield positions, well…, like shit.
Michael Young, a player who play all 4 infield positions well below the standards of an average high school junior varsity team.
so much win
I’m just about as good as Michael Young is at defense.
Thanks, and go As.
God no, to Michael Young.
It would be funny if MY gets traded to someone(not the A’s) and the rangers and Phillies pay all his salary.
Good god, y’all. What is he good for? Absolutely NOTHING.
Say it again, y’all.
I am having a problem with KK Vince and ray complaining about being too high at PNC. they are basically saying you can;t see the field from 317
Well, you can’t. Certainly not well enough to call a baseball game effectively… when you’re already handicapped but suckage.
Vince being high as fk would explain some of his play by play.
If you can throw a no hitter on acid, I don’t think you can be too high to call a baseball game.
LMAO!
That squares with what Ray at least has said during those couple of games they actually did broadcast from the Value Deck in recent years.
How Guantanamo prisoners on hunger strike are force fed
I think I’d much rather let them strike. That’s insane. Once they started sticking the tube in I had to stop, I can’t imagine it getting any better from there.
