As Will Rogers might have said, if he was a snarky basement-dwelling internet kid and A’s fan: I never meta FKup I didn’t like.
And he woulda been right, too. A slab of meat, a jug of beer, and thou. This is what separates us from the lower order species like Angels fans, who are enjoined by law and disposition from tailgating (and really, from fun of any kind). We A’s fans have it good, with our pristine asphalt and laissez faire, BYO everything attitudes.
So be there! Yes, you! The game starts at 4:15, so we’ll convene by High Noon if not earlier. Come to the usual spot in the North “A†lot…right here! Between the inestimable wacchampions and myself we’ll have grills, coolers, tables, sun canopies, and pretty much all the supplies one might expect. All you need to bring is your beverages, grillables and share-able side dishes of choice. And yo bad self! Please RSVP in the comments, and let us know what you think you might bring, so that not everyone brings salmon mousse again this year. Also, if anyone thinks they’ll be bringing an extra grill, big-ass or otherwise, that’d be good to know too.
Many of us already have tickets, so I won’t be organizing another group block purchase. Secure your own seats, and at the tailgate we can scheme about upgrading more folks into the right field suite. The most proximate seating one could get at the box office would be Plaza Outfield, in the 245-249 range.
I really do hope to see all of you there. I love and respect all our NRAFs like elcroata, and our shut-ins like dmoas, but really, there’s nothing in all of big league baseball like an Oakland A’s tailgate party and ballgame. And there’s no big league website quite like Free Kraut. Put ‘em together and let the awesomeness commence.
I will have to miss this one. One of my daughters has a dance show that day.
My brother is getting married that day.
OK, get them to move the wedding to the Coliseum parking lot, and bear88’s daughter’s dance group can be part of the ceremony. Problems solved!
Like magic!
Can we plan a FKing orgy for around 4th of July?
Yes, in the Value Deck.
ORLY?
You haven’t had an orgy until you’ve had an orgy on top of and under the tarps.
Don’t forget between.
NOT NOT NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
LOL! I love the audio.
And you can actually see his penis. I was skeptical, until the junk came out. No pun intended.
He actually makes an ‘Oh’ face too, heh, classy.
I’m worried about the camera guy. Why did he record that? And where did it come from? Who leaked this?
Always a classic.
YOU GUYS TAILGATE????
Thanks, and go As.
I, of course, am in. No idea what Mrs. N and I will be able to pull together to bring, given the givens.
FSU, just wanted to let you know it was a pleasure reading this. Do keep writing
Thank you, good sir. I really do need to write more, and I hope to.
I second this.
Full family, veggie dogs and/or burgers, ginny plum crumble and vanilla ice cream, and possibly the first of the homebrew (though it will only have been a week in the bottle by then).
Hooray! Hopefully we’ll have a nice bunch of kids on hand to juxtapose their innocence against the grizzled decadence of the rest of us sots.
Can I come?
Of course, and I hope that you will.
We will be three. we will be bringing stuff. and gloves and such
I’ll be there with a tasty beer sampling in tow. The non-liquid item is to be determined.
Probably there.
Considering ribs.
Thanks, and go As.
Hope you can make it, and not only because the ribs you make are some of the best anywhere.
May I grill with you?
I wouldn’t have it any other way
Thanks, and go As.
♥
Duh. Like you even need to ask
Thanks, and go As.
It would be impolite not to! But I was hoping for that very answer. :)
Now I just need a ticket…and what to make?
All right, a 14th-15th overnight trip works for me. The 4 p.m. game means I can reasonably head home after the game if I need to. No food but I will contribute generously to the FKing Beer Fest. In the past I’ve noticed that FSU has graciously and uncomplainingly hauled home any leftover unconsumed beer.
He’s such a good guy.
Yay! Looking forward to seeing you.
Excellent!
Awesome FSU and WC, can’t wait!
I’ll be there all fking weekend (!!!), Saturday I’ll bring some craft beer offerings and something to nibble on.
Hey b.o – any recommendations for our two days in Milwaukee on the road trip? Yes, we’ve been to the spy bar, and the art museum (which was great so we may well go back).
Not b.o, and it’s been almost 25 years since my last Milwaukee trip, but as I recall Karl Ratzsch’s is a must-stop for dinner. Not a lot of scenic-type stuff to see there though.
Yeah, if you like German food, Ratzsch’s and Von Triers (w/ an awesome classic bar too) on North Ave are very solid.
As a visitor you have to do the touristy thing once in your time in town. I have Oklahoma Joe’s on the agenda in Kansas City.
Very worth it.
-The Mitchell Domes are fun if you like Bucky-balls and plant-life.
-Italian Cookies @ Sciortino Bakery on Brady St, Cempazuchis down the street has good food, get a cocktail at Hi-Hat across the street afterwards.
-Sunday Brunch at The Pfister Hotel is neat.
-Find a Bell’s Two Hearted beer, drink it and demand more, several in fact, Art Bar in Riverwest is fun and has a good selection, or Burnhearts in Bay View.
-A walk and picnic in Lake Park to look at… THE LAKE.
-If you like funky Natural History/ Anthro dioramas, the Public Museum is for you!
-Turner Hall is a great place to see a show.
-Get Ice Cream at Bradford Beach.
-Most of the good eats, cafes, and bars/ venues are around the East Side/ Brady St, Riverwest, Bay View, and Third Ward district- just walk around really.
If I think of anything more I’ll keep posting- have fun!
Thanks! We’ll let you know how much we pack in between a day and a night game at Miller Park.
I second the recommendation of Bell’s Two Hearted.
Sounds like fun, one of these days I would really like to try to make it to one of these tailgates that you talk about…
They’re supposedly awesome.
As soon as you get over your social anxiety disorder so you can talk to strangers.
We’ll be there, with something eatable and/or drinkable. For reasons of national security (okay, my own mental security), I can’t be specific…
Sadly, we won’t be able to make this one, but we will be there on the 16th, maybe even early enough to get a rAge gnome.
I’m questionable. Already have tix for the 16th and 2 games in a weekend are doubtful with my schedule. But if I can swing it, I will!
I’m going to unstick this post from the top of the page for now. Figure most FKers have seen it. I’ll re-stick it later next week to make on final push for turnout.
Oh, stick it.
OK, I’ve re-stickied this to the front page as one last appeal to all of you, my FK buddies: Come on out to FK Day 3 on Saturday! If you’re lurking under a palm tree in Hawaii, hop a plane! If you’re baking in the dry heat of the greater Sacramento metroplex, or swimming in the South Carolina humidity–get yo ass on over to the East Bay, home of the best weather on earth! If you’re immobilized in the North Bay, summon the Life Flight air ambulance! Really, all of you should be here.
Just since the 2013 season started, more than 30 different FKers have put posts on the front page. 67 games into the season at this writing, 20 different Game Thread authors. 27,000 comments by I don’t know how many FKers. It is astounding that our little unpublicized corner of the internet has such a broad base of participation. It does not happen without each and every one of you, and I hope to have the chance of Saturday to see this group manifest on the Coliseum asphalt.
Be there. Aloha.
I’ll be there. +1. but a different +1, it’s a buddy of mine and not the pretty girl ™
and i’ll have ribs. and whiskey.
Thanks, and go As.
Great!
Also, if you’re planning to buy as a walkup, let me know before you do. As of now there’s a 25% chance that Mrs. N needs to give this one a pass for work / moving related combo reasons.
We should know before Saturday.
If Mrs. N can’t make it we’ll miss her, but we’ll get over it. However, Yoenessa’s attendance is mandatory.
Unfortunately, the two go together. And she very much wants to make it.
We could very well sue you for false promises of baby time you know
Damages?
I’m sure you would agree that the damages from the lost chance to bask in Yoenessa’s radiant glow defy calculation.
So you admit they are $0?!?
Priceless.
Said the no-show …
The number of people that have clamoured for my appearance pales in comparison. Im sure you all will get a long just fine without my incessant arguing and driving everyone away.
pish posh. you were the star last year.
I would posit that peoples perceptions of me have changed significantly in a year
I don’t think so – you’ve always been you!
Agreed. It may be that DFA’s perceptions of how people
perceive DFA have changed.
Also, the phrase “But in person he’s delightful!” was invented for DFA.
I believe that that phrase is jesa’s doing.
Right, I don’t think I have changed. I do think the willingness for contributors to happily coexist with who I am has declined.
I second nm’s pish posh.
I wouldn’t. People argue (sometimes nastily) on here. But I don’t think any of it would cross the line into being personal
I would argue that over the last year things have become much much more personal with regard to my interactions here.
freekraut.com says hello
SighSaghFixed that for you.
asvd
The freekraut.com domain name is currently available to anyone who wants it. mb’s registration expired a few months ago and the renewal period lapsed.
I’ll buy it and just do a redirect.
Thanks, and go As.
i don’t know i think it would be bad karma
I don’t see why.
Thanks, and go As.
I got a couple emails from people offering to sell it to me before that happened. I’d support buying it if it is available.
Usually the best thing is for the person with the master hosting account (YOU) to buy the additional domain name and do the redirect. It costs a few bucks per year. Just do it if you think that’s the right idea and we’ll compensate you on Saturday.
Actually, I think in this case it would be good for someone else to own it, so that I don’t have the power to shut the whole thing down unilaterally. Not that I would, but still.
I should probably also send someone a periodic backup, ideally in some automated way.
The redirect is just a line of code, so anyone with rudimentary google skills could get it working.
That said, I’m happy to do it if people prefer.
I can buy the domain, but I currently don’t have a web host anywhere so I can’t provide space for a backup right this moment.
Thanks, and go As.
I have a web host, which I’m happy to use for FK in any way that’s useful.
Hand jobs?
Why not?
Womp
I was referring to DFA specifically, as a contrast to all that.
You’re obviously very intelligent and your comments contribute a lot to the site. You can be a great guy. You can also be a total prick.
(Looks at list.) Nope, no changes in the last year.
Sure, we’ll get along fine. But you’re at least worth 4.0 FAR (Fun Above Replacement). So hop on the
high-speed trainGreyhound and get your ass up here! This
I am going to be up the 20-23 and the 3-7 which makes it harder to justify. Also the working.
But I’m not going to be here for either of those stretches, so they are irrelevant.
Well, ok, I’ll be here on the 6th and 7th, but not the rest!
fkup brunch before I go on the 7th maybe?
Sounds like a plan.
I might be interested.
I’m in
Bar Tartine maybe?
That works for me. The slingers expressed interest too, so we may have a nice group.
My best buddy works there, can’t promise anything of course, but we’ll get good service/ recs at least if he’s working.
Fly up for the day – I have the SW voucher.
Im working in the am and then have a date in the evening at this point as kind as that is I cant really.
MikeV: Do you still have the Fuentes autographed baseball? It should be re-awarded on Saturday. I have a nominee but will reserve that discussion for in-person on Saturday.
I am not sure. I’ll have to check with my kids. All signs point towards who friggin knows where the hell it is though cause I also sold my house and moved and stuff…
Thanks, and go As.
All right, somebody get Rosales to autograph a ball quick! Jeez, if I’d been thinking about it I would have had Barton sign in Reno on Monday night.
OK now a Barton signed ball I’d have put in a little glass box thing.
At third base.
Thanks, and go As.
Damn, son, the value of a genuine Fuentes-signed baseball could have bought you a new house!
in Detroit?
Thanks, and go As.
I’d settle for Flint.
Nevermoor, for those of us who come cash in hand day of, I assume you will be at the tailgate until about game time. I probably will not make it until 3ish, and since I don’t have tickets, I want to make sure I coordinate.
Yep. We plan to be there from whenever-we-get-there until game time.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t been carefully tracking who paid (I plead young baby), so please don’t be offended if I ask people who have paid.
I haven’t paid.
I’ve paid, and so has my wife.
Looking forward to seeing all y’all fkers out there tomorrow.
It’s official. Mrs. N is coming.
Also, there’s another condo in Noe for sale starting next week. Tell your friends!
Take pics and post them FKers.
I love it when the kids club books are in the backpack
The beachhead had been established. Swarm!
leaving now
I’m sorry I can’t come, everyone have a great time.
Well, then, just forget what everybody said about you being invited.
In other news, I didn’t see devilish eggs in the copious listings of foodstuffs being brought, so we have dibbs. And Otter Pops, of course, in case the little FKrs ever decide to freeze.
See yous’ns soon!
Sad I can’t be with you FKers today. I’ll put up a game thread and sit in it alone, while I cry into my beer.
Too late! And youll have at least one crier with you.
Me three!
so thanks to all of you, even though we lost. it was such a joy to be with you all again. <3
You too, that was so much fun! Also I mostly agree with you (about that earlier conversation).
:D i think you may have missed the best parts of it.
Was great seeing you too!
Oh, also I came home with a big bottle of vodka and another of spiced rum. At least one from Yon Yonson I believe. I’ll never drink those and am happy to pass them along at the next game I make, which will probably be Tues 6/25 v Cincy.
I could offer the same about that big yummy looking bottle of Kilt Lifter Ale, but, um…
Many thanks for all the organization. Herding FKers is a rare art.
“Lost in transit” eh? Hope you enjoyed the ale, happy to donate it to the Thanks for Organizing, FSU cause.
