Ok, Schlong laying out to make a catch while on a FKING REHAB ASSIGNMENT for his wrist that he hurt doing THE SAME DAMN THING. Can we give him a mental rehab as well?
(still want him over CY25)
Oh god, really? That’s lunacy.
This is the way he plays. That’s not going to change.
I know. And my 8 year old self loves him for it, I can picture him doing it for the last out in a game 7. But my old fat man brain screams STOP…WAIT TIL OAKLAND!
I suppose that dive today was a good way to test it. At least it was in right-center where there’s nothing but grass to hit.
Gritty gamer who only knows one way to play is a gritty gamer.
the one third mark of the season
Tim Flannery sounds like a jack ass. I wonder if he plays music?
Fosse says he’s a great third base coach, was a great player, and is great at music too.
I wonder what Dead songs his band does?
he said he raised over $100K for Brian stow. DId I hear that right?
Given their recent woes, how about Going Down The Road, Feelin Bad.
I’m looking at the track listings for his albums on his website. The only (possible) Dead cover I see is Ship of Fools. A few other titles I know: Sin City, Hickory Wind, Spanish Pipedream.
Oh right, games in ATampersandT don’t start until 7:15.
Gotta take ten extra minutes to appreciate the glory that is ATyT
Sad to see a generation of young marin-ers in full Giants gear (Tiburon choir did the anthem)
Has always been so, my friend.
A few weeks ago, I went camping with some of my buddies from high school. They were never really into baseball, but they are all Giants fans now, with just one exception (who lives in Oakland).
I felt really good in 2010 for all of my HS friends who were huge Giants fans back in the day, who used to take me to games at the Stick and would go with me to games at the Coli, and who were heartbroken in 1989. They deserved it.
It’s the rest of them, who couldn’t tell Will Clark from Kevin Mitchell, but who are now constantly FBing pictures of themselves eating garlic fries in the expensive seats at ATundT, wearing far too much orange, and claiming that they were waiting soooooo long for that championship that piss me off to no end.
Exactly. One of my best friends and another former co-wrker are like this: telling Jeffrey Leonard stories, saying Hmmm baby, etc. I hate on them as I would any fan of the opposing team. But at the same time we can be respectful (in fact my friend will be with me at the good seats in a couple of weks, hopefully wearing the green and gold Giants hat I got him for Christmas a coupl of years ago.)
But all of these folks who know nothing past Brian Wilson and think they are Yankees West can get slow acting food poisoning for ll I care.
The saddest part is I could tell them more about the history of their own club than they know anything about.
But they know the greatest giant in history…Cody Ross
Not so. See, e.g., me.
Of course there are A’s fans in Marin, but there is no denying that it is mostly for the Giants.
I remember it being somewhat balanced, but that might be rose-tinted.
That is not my memory.
Nor mine. Not even close. The difference back then is that people were moderately open to experiencing and enjoying both teams.
Yup.
I never had people who were even happy to see the A’s do well. It was 5-1 Giants territory throughout my Marin childhood and, even if I am younger than a few of you, it was certainly pre-2010.
They weren’t happy to see the A’s do well back then either. They just weren’t asses about it. They could appreciate that a day at the Coliseum was a day well spent and that rooting for the A’s was as legitimate as rooting for Giants.
That’s it exactly. They really didn’t give a shit about the A’s in general. Mostly dismissive about the team without being antagonistic about it.
As I ponder Chris Young, my rational self says he’s not playing every day, is having trouble adjusting to a new league, hits in streaks, and has had trouble defensively because he’s not a corner outfielder.
The fan in me doesn’t want to see him play at all, except against Houston.
The defensive struggles are weird, I could understand a few weeks of adjusting back to the corner spots, but not 53+ games. That gaffe last night was ugly.
And thats the problem. Last year we saw Cespedes’ issues adjusting, but even my untrained eyes could see he would get it. CY has looked like he has no clue out there. And worse like he isnt that concerned. (yeah I know he doesnt smile enough…)
And his arm looks terrible too, which doesn’t have anything to do with the position change.
What’s playing at the Roxy?
I’ll tell you what’s playing at the Roxy.
A picture about a Minnesota man falls in love with a Mississippi girl
That he sacrifices everything and moves all the way to Biloxi.
That’s what’s playing at the Roxy.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH TIMMEH?!?!?
We interrupt the play by play to bring everyone back to discuss this…
walks, yay!
La potencia
I yelled that to him last night before every AB, no reaction.
That should become tradition for us in those seats.
Indeed.
Should have been caught, but he did hit it hard. I’m worried he’s becoming Adam Dunn.
Cespedes owns Lincecum.
Yeah baby! Step on their necks!
Ha!
ERMAHGERD…..TIMMEH!!!

Woo Yespedes!
I picture Cespy just coming home on one of those and just leaping over the catcher.
Posey would absolutely poop himself if Cespedes were coming down the line with a full head of steam.
Posey would just take himself over to the dugout just to be safe.
Giants fans would petition for a rule change to have him anchored over the plate in a shark cage.
“We believe runners should not be allowed to advance past third while Gerald is on the field.”
I kind of want to get my grubby paws on tonight’s attendance numbers, but so far no dice.
They said 41k plus later in the game. The asshole who set up the attendance guessing game put all the choices within about 500 of each other.
Lies…damned lies!
And statistics!
HAHAHAHAHA
hahahahahahahahahhahahhahhahahahahhahahahaha

Hee hee hee!
Oops. Pence & Scutaro fail.
Oh man Marco, heh.
AAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
There are some harsh words being exchanged now
between whom?
Pence and Scutaro
nice
Jon Heyman will write a recap of this game later on in which he will assure us all that the Giants were probably mesmerized by the glittering palace all around them and pondering how even the urinals run with champagne in paradise — that’s why the ball was clanking off their gloves and rolling around.
I don’t like them getting hits. only us.
Fix it tommy
thank you
Fixed.
Done and done.
Erased!
Can we not make a habit of wearing the BP caps? Looks bush.
MLB demanded it.
We’ll form a committee to study it and get back to them.
Agreed. Horrible look.
They’re great hats but they should be left to BP/ST.
Y’all are haters. Anything with more elephant is fine by me. Also black alts.
You’re half right.
S D I
Oops kinda.
That looks like nm in the gold jersey, getting TV time with a RH batter up. Nice seats!
Good thing they don’t seem to do this there:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/diamondbacks-owner-forces-dodgers-fans-change-clothes-move-201010214–mlb.html
Could be. A few rows behind the dugout in an A’s hat and yellow Gio jersey.
They’re the firm tickets, which means they’re in the special Field Club section, but on the outside edge.
So this must have been done before, but does anyone else think that the Gnats catcher looks like a pin-up girl?
You know, a busty poser?
I’d say he looks more like a hipster caught in a drug sting.
You know, a Busted Poseur.
Nice.
Swing the bat!
er, nvm
Ooh, that was almost a really nice hit. Instead, nice double play.
Pretty much guarantees no pitcher will be allowed to swing in that situation for the rest of the season.
I’m okay with the attempt. Nearly worked out well and it took a good play to squash it. Suck Ass 2 failed there. Either way, we have the top of the line next inning.
So what’s up with the elephant logo caps?
Are we about to talk about a Smithy Run?
I’m at a work dinner and the A’s are on tv in front of me. Please please don’t let me start yelling about things.
Melvin, you can help this by not pinch hitting Rosales and preventing sogard from running into more outs.
Drat.
Ugh…
FUCK THAT!
Bummer
I question the intellectual rigor of a clubhouse in which Hunter Pence is the team philosopher.
more runs please, now, please
Yes, 6 A’s runz pls.
I’m OK with n + 1
There you go.
I’ll take it!
We may yet want n + 1…
Yes!
I believe in CoCo!
I believe in CespeDestiny!
53 pitches for Lincicum through 3. Not bad, players. not bad. lets get on base next inning.
75 through 4 and the top coming up.
Quit nibbling Tommy…
Seems like he’s having a little trouble commanding his changeup.
I like this half inning less
Milone is gonna have more pitches than Lincicum
This Roxy Bernstein fellow ain’t half bad. Better than Vince, anyway.
Nice crisp call on the Theth double.
Does this mean we can finally ditch Vince?
As with Hatteberg/Fosse, we can all hope, and then be disappointed.
He’s been great on Cal basketball for years. Big fan.
His ESPN workload has also increased a lot in the last year or two, and that may well pay better than A’s radio, though the jobs aren’t mutually exclusive.
I was on the road somewhere a few years ago (honestly can’t remember where) and he was doing baseball pxp. I knew him from Cal hoops too and was happy to hear him doing that. Would love to have him replace VC.
I really like him. Make him permenant.
whew
Whew, okay score moar runz A’s, moar, runz.
Thretching a thingle!
He probably should have gotten thrown out both at second and third. But still…
Theth!
That was rich
Just hit it far pls.
Theth Thmith Thpeeding
come on moss, no dps
Thank you Gerald, no DP
Good things M O J O !!!
Dammit
Damn it Moss.
You cannot have an at bat like that. That was fucking terrible.
TIMMEH HAS WALKED INTO OUR TRAP!
Time for a Milone grand slam.
Woooo NL strategerication.
Fucking NL ball.
Make em pay Tommy, blow this shit open.
NVJSDBVHKSBDHVKJBHJKSDBKJVBKJNSXKNZ ,BHKFBKJDSCHKSVJHDVJKH.
Didn’t quite have the distance.
Even the FKing pitcher laid off that first pitch in the dirt. God, I am so fucking pissed at Moss.
BARTON’S FAULT
Thanks, and go As.
That pitch was legitimately out of the zone the moment it left Timmeh’s hand.
That wasn’t even in the zone for my Little Leaguers 46 foot mound.
Thanks, and go As.
That nearly got me work yelling. Just a terrible swing
First and possibly only IBB of Sogard’s career.
more NL games to come.
I’m hoping Billy will find a middle infielder on his doorstep or something.
Not necessarily for Sogard, though.
He’ll be double-switching with Rosales in no time.
Lets have a nice and quick side Tommy.
Seth Smith exits, stage right
Ugh, c’mon!
So, this is better baseball? walking a guy?
And Are Giants fans booing? didn’t this just happen in the last half inning with their guy?
Comical…
They boo and yet they hypocritically pan the DH.
I knew they would too. Poetic justice is poetic. Especially once I got over my conviction that TIMMEH would get a hit.
NL ball sucks.
BUT ALL THE STRATEGY
Thanks, and go As.
Turnabout is fair play.
same umpiring crew as the Oakland series, huh?
“Real baseball.”
Real “exciting.”
Korach: I grew up watching National League games, I understand the tradition, but watching the eighth place hitter get walked in order to face the pitcher with the bases loaded…is that really what you want to see? Is that what it’s all about?
This is the kind of voice the old guard NL obstructionists need to hear the next time MLB has a shot to uniformly adopt the DH.
Ahh, PCL baseball:

!!!!!
Ackley might be pretty good if he plays in Colorado Springs all the time. Plus there he’s mostly out of view of those dastardly sabermetric nerds.
Love hearing Fosse say how this was the advantage for the Gnats..Timmeh had that experience hitting .056.
Let’s knock Timmeh out of the game mojo.
I still want the compromise that you can DH for any position, not just P.
That is the rule already in the AL, you can DH for any position, it doesnt have to be the pitcher…
That’s not correct, I’m afraid
The rule is 6.10(b) and clearly states that the DH may be used for the pitcher only.
In re-reading the rule, it reminded me that somebody the other day was wondering why you don’t more often see, say, a left-handed reliever who’s already in the game go to the outfield for one batter while a right-hander replaces him, then come back to the mound. If the pitcher takes another defensive position, the designated hitter is lost for the remainder of the game.
The question, I guess, is why not do that in the national league. But really, A) fuck pitchers hitting and B) really, you want them on the field?
The only reason I thought that was because back in 1998 I used to have season tickets in 129, right behind the bullpen. One day Rickey came over and was chatting with us and I asked him that question and he told me that the DH could be used for any position, I guess he didnt know either, LOL!
If Rickey said it, there must be a misprint in the rulebook.
ASVD
Keep the line moving boys
Coco!
In play, run(s).
YESYESYESYESYESYES
I love it when Ken says “[thirdbaseperson] in on the grass for a bunt that won’t be coming.”
And Yay Jed
God I love watching Coco run the bases.
No kidding, that was an awesome hustle
I wish I was a kid and could get a Coco Crisp cereal bowl.
Maybe you could talk salb into going with you, he can pass if he shaves first.
I like the way you think. Little bugger would probably want to keep it for himself tho.
I bet you could take him.
he has children. Mr. B. he would likely take his own
Heck, I bet I could take the whole family.
Didn’t occur to me until just now, but based on the delighted look on Jerry Blevins’ face, the A’s relievers probably enjoy this rare chance to high five guys who just scored. I hope they get to do a home run tunnel.
Uh, how did Cespedes not hit 3 of those pitches 500 feet?
HEY BRANDON! DID YOU SEE HOW SMITH TOOK THAT PITCH?
Maybe not, but he sure saw how Freiman AA’d the heck out of his chances.
lol timmeh
C’mon Moss.
Lincecum may be starting to regret that last bong hit in between innings.
It helps him to forget.
LOL at that being scored a hit.
Loving this Giants defense. How the hell was that scored a hit?
Excellent. Assuming PH, Freiman – Lopez is a better matchup than Moss – Timmeh.
At what point do we acknowledge that first base is an issue that may need to be addressed externally?
Immediately after we get a middle infielder.
What’s wrong, Timmeh?
Enjoy your early shower, Timmeh.
I don’t hate the giants the way many here do, but watching the boys knock Lincecum out of the game sure is gratifying.
THIS is what I wanted. Do to the Giants what we did to the Astros. Oh! Hell! Yes!
Beautiful.
FUCK YES!
Nate Frieman.
Nice.
You can keep your job, Mr. Frieman.
Gotta admit, his enthusiasm after every hit is pretty great.
This is splendid
WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH JAVY!!!?????
Nate is great!
And Suck Ass Too fails.
Sogard’s .600 batting average in spring training was long, long ago and about 700 miles away.
Nakajima is up to .301/.344/.411 in Sacramento which….admittedly isn’t impressive but at least he’s starting to look feasible.
Fuck it, I’m done with Rosie, bring em’ up.
Yup I’m done with Sogales. Send one down, I don’t care which one. Both would be fine as well.
Only if we have another “hot hitting” catcher to call up
We do.
Let’s go Tommy!
this is the second time this week they have scored 4 in the 5th. once they scored 6. they need to get to 5 and stay there.
Please to be throwing strikes.
yes, please.
C’mon…
Fail.
nakajima please
YES!
It is officially Naka Jima time.
Please Hiro Don’t Hurt ‘Em.
#IneedaHiro
And could Green and/or Weeks really be worse as well?
phew. Milone one more?
I’d say short leash.
Oops…
How do Giants fans tolerate Hunter Pence?
I can’t even watch him, so fugly.
they’re big Ice Age fans.
Thanks, and go As.
I kinda like his goofiness. As long as he’s not killing the A’s
KK, bringing up the Heyfuck tweet.
Error should’ve been on Pill, not Sandoval. Low throw, but any MLB 1B should make that catch.
Agree on last part, but if it’s in the dirt at all the E always goes on the thrower.
Lopez @ 27 pitches, looks like we’ll be seeing even more bullpen tonight.
Guess he can’t keep the ‘good’ pen’ rested all series.
Vince: “I’m paraphrasing here.”
It was a fucking tweet….
roxy
I thought Vince sounded funny.
oh for fuck sake.
BOOBIES.
Also, c’mon Twiggy.
dammit, and yay. outs please
What the hell is going on.
Thank you Giants fan.
I mean
FUCK YOU UMPIRES
Good job, idiot Giants fan. You probably cost your team a run.
nope
of course the giants are going to get that break
WTF is going on, umps? You call no fan interference? Blanco should be back at third!
They did call fan interference. However the umpire’s “opinion” on that one was dubious to say the least:
If that’s the ruling, it means “judgment call” so no discipline for the ump. Again.
Are you sure? I could have sworn the lip reading of the 3B ump’s explanation to Melvin was “there was no interference.”
That’s what I saw too.
The fucking Giants usher went to eject him, and the fucking umpires didn’t see it?!
And the batter-runner went back to second on his own!
Yup. One those fuckers better get fucking suspended for this.
Please within my lifetime, let there be no more umpires.
Just endless horribleness
How FUCKING INCOMPETENT are these Assholes?! The jackass fan got ejected for fucking out loud.
What a crock of shit…
FIre the lot of them. MLB has the least-competent officials of any major sport, NBA included.
I don’t agree with this…I think actually MLB has the best officials of the three major sports…but today is probably not the day to make this argument.
Well, they seem to pick their worst days for A’s games.
Not this season they aren’t. They’ve been certifiably incompetent this year.
At least the NFL guys usually get reviewed plays right…
NBA I have no opinion on, since 90% of their calls could go either way, afaik
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING
How in the world did the umpires screw THAT up when the Giants coach yelled at the fan and he got booted?
And Torres went BACK TO SECOND.
Words cannot express my fury.
About the same as mine.
Not only that, Cespedes left the ball there and Torres went back to second base.
Fire Gerry Davis. That fucking jackass.
Thank you, fatso.
FK YOU UMPIRES.
This is fucking stupid
Karma = double play. Inning over.
This needs to be played under protest.
Umpires’ judgement the runner would have scored without fan interference.
this is unfucking believable
Wow. Staggering incompetence.
Blevins you ignorant slut.
still need 9 outs. fuck
Good thing we burned Cook and Balfour yesterday.
Apparently not Balfour. We need to win today by >3 so he doesn’t talk his way on again.
Well fuck, clutch DP, but I really reeeeally hope the umpire show doesn’t cost us this game.
This is incorrigible, really bad year for calling plays…
On the plus side, I guess we’re lucky that Torres didn’t just fucking walk home on that play too.
Woot fat panda!
Among the other fucked up aspects of that play, if it was not fan interference, why was the play stopped? Cespedes just walked away from the ball sitting on the ground, which apparently was a live ball.
No one disputed the fan interference.
Except the umps.
Nope – they agreed it was fan interference, but argued the runner would have scored anyway.
Which is just insane.
I’m not sure where you and Soaker are getting this interpretation from. I mean, I can see making that inference based on the subsequent events, but was something announced? If so I missed it.
Yeah, I’m with you on that. There was no ruling on the field to suggest that was the call.
You and dmoas could be right; we’ll see after the game. For now I’d prefer not to believe that all the umpires missed the interference. Batter to second, runner scoring from first is allowed under the interference ruling.
It’s exceptionally rare for them to give more than 2 bases. And I seriously doubt they’d make a special case here for that.
There’s just no conceivable way to say Blanco would have undoubtedly scored on that.
Yeah, to make that call, they’d have to be able to justify it, which you just can’t so it should be 2 bases. They didn’t call it interfere, it’s the only thing that makes sense as idiotically incompetent as that sounds.
That’s what the Gnat’s TV announcers said happened, after analyzing it.
I didn’t see the 3rd base umpire, but even if he did tell Melvin there was no interference I doubt that’s what they’ll say after the game.
Not from the looks of it. They never signaled inference and the ump seemed to mouth that it wasn’t.
Add on, please.
This.
Not watching…can someone explain the ump business?
Runner on first, ball hit fair over third, rolls into Giants bullpen, fan interferes before Cespedes can get there. Umpire rules that runner would have scored all the way from first had the interference not occurred; it looked much more likely he would have stopped at third.
No, the ruling was there was no interference.
Blanco at first. Torres hits one that was apparently barely fair over the 3B bag. It skips up as a fan reaches out near the bullpen mound and it clearly rolls up his arm before dropping back onto the track. Figure ground rule double, Blanco at 3B, Torres at 2B, but they counted Blanco’s run. Torres went back to 2B after reaching 3B, fans in front who reached over for the ball were ejected or at least removed.
Fair ball down the third baseline, clearly and obviously touched by a fan, everyone on the field stopped…fielders, runners…yet the umps ruled either that no interference occurred, or that the runner Blanco who had started on first would have scored anyway. Either explanation is preposterous.
I don’t get it…if interference was ruled and the umpire justified that the runner would’ve scored anyways, shouldn’t they also justify that Torres go to third?
Torres retreated to second of his own accord, apparently.
That ruling (runner scores, batter to second) is theoretically possible, like if the runner were running on the pitch and was already halfway home when the interference occurred. It just doesn’t seem like that was the case here.
I also still haven’t seen anything definitive on what the actual ruling was.
Ground ball down the LF line, with runner at 1B. Fan interferes with ball, which falls dead along the wall. Runner from 1B scores. Umpires either ruled no fan interference, or judged that the runner would’ve scored from 1B anyway (which is BS). Note that Cespedes just left the ball laying in place along the wall, and the batter ended up walking himself back to 2B. Security also ejected the fan.
Fan interference with a runner on 1st, so everyone assumes an automatic double, runners 2nd & 3rd.
Everyone on both teams took their positions accordingly, the scoreboard showed 2&3, the fan was ejected, and the umps decided to award the run as well.
Thanks/unfuckingreal
Ugh, that looked safe…
What the FK umps
They want the Gnats to win?
At least give us a damned makeup call for your extreme and limit testing incompetence.
This is exactly what I was thinking…this shit is supposed to balance out.
And Donaldson was safe. Another bad call.
KK says safe, I believe it
Even the Giants announcers – having started with “It’s Crawford, he’s awesome” watched the reply and acknowledged the blown call.
No video on MLB.com. Looked well safe watching live.
He was. Ball bounced up and the first baseman had to raise his arm to catch giving Donaldson time to hit the bag before it got to the glove.
Good grief, Charlie Brown.
another fucking blown call. fuck them so much.
Angel Hernandez sits in a darkened room smiling…
Heheh
Hisssss.
God damn it
Clearly this is a fix job by the umps.
I’m scurred, 3 quick Gnats outs pls.
[walks away for 10 min]
Wish I was at ATandT…I go to games solely to see umpires dispense their frontier justice…
Wow, good thing Donaldson didn’t get himself tossed. Amazing grab.
Beautiful! That’s how you make up for earlier!
Wow, amazing catch by Donaldson.
Much, much, much better than you think he is. WOW.
I know we have talked about how loaded AL 3B is as far as all-stars, etc, but with the season he is having I think he should be there.
I don’t. Any of Cabrera/Longoria/Machado/Donaldson should start for the NL, but the other three are more deserving than Donaldson.
I hadn’t noticed how good a year Longoria is having. Wow.
Who cares if three others are more deserving. If he’s deserving on his own accord, he should be there as well.
Well, the thing with the All Star game is that you are supposed to be deserving relative to others.
Well, yes. And he is.
I actually haven’t realized that his WAR is right there with the other three and overall #3 in AL by fWAR. So, NM, why do you find other three more deserving?
But in a vacuum, the statement stands. There is no such thing as deserving on ones own accord. There is a limited and a fixed number of slots to be given, meaning that it is only how a person performs relative to others that counts
He’s actually closed the gap since last I looked. I could see him being #3 behind Cabrera/Machado, but I don’t think there’s roster space for 4 3Bers.
Cabrera is a DH
Yet he’s a 3B both in fact and on the ballot. And even with -7.5 fielding, he’s still at 3 WAR already.
Which is fine but he should be playing dh at the game
It’s at Citi Field.
There’s still a DH I think. There’s a ballot entry for them anyway.
NL parks always have the pitcher in the lineup.
Then why are we asked to vote for an AL DH?
Because it’s still a position?
It used to be that for ASGs in NL parks, teh ballot had no DH listed, so AL teams had to force fit their usual DHs into position slots to appear on the ballot. If one looked back I’m sure you could find guys like David Ortiz or Prince Fielder listed on the ballot at 1B.
Recently, maybe even for teh first time this year, the AL lists its DH candidates as DHs. Whichever one gets elected will presumably be limited to pinch hitting duties.
Even putting aside the fact that having pitchers hit is stupid to begin with … having pitchers hit in the all-star game is really, really stupid.
I think we should have pitcher home run derby.
Per Wiki:
In 2010, Major League Baseball announced the designated hitter rule would apply for every All-Star Game; while the 2010 game was already to have the DH, the 2011 game was the first played in a National League park with a DH.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100428&content_id=9645460&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
Have him as a C or SS for all I care. He probably ends up PHing anyway.
Cespedes has SS covered.
Donaldson passed Longoria in WAR and is higher in all triple slash categories now. Machado is good defensively, but he’s playing at ~35 UZR/150, and he’s probably not THAT good. Regress the UZR and Donaldson MIGHT pass him in WAR. Cabrera is the only one you can’t make an argument that Donaldson couldn’t make the team over.
That said, it’s an ASG, it’s fine if he doesn’t make it. Chavvy never did. It would be nice recognition for him but we all know Josh is BTYT.
I just want to see Cespy in the HR derby. That could be a show.
While we’re on the subject, Lowrie seems like a pretty likely all star at this point, no? I’m having trouble thinking of anyone who clearly beats him out at SS other than Andrus.
In an ideal world, it’d be Donaldson/Lowrie/Balfour. I just don’t see us getting three (and none will win voting).
I think we get two. Balfour or Doolittle plus Lowrie or Donaldson or Crisp.
Hmm, Jhonny Peralta’s been killing it recently.
And he plays for the right manager.
I was going to spell out the letter “H” Heyman-style (like “eff” for “F”), but then I realized I have no idea how to do that for “H”.
eitch
Looks like something you’d need to see an edoctor about for some ecream.
Is Jeter on the ballot? Because that pretty much ends the discussion.
Donaldson’s glove interfered with Posey’s right to a base hit there.
WHERE ARE THE UMPIRES WHEN YOU NEED THEM?!?
Kind of surprised that jackass didn’t rule it hit the ground.
Automatic two run home run. UMPIRES JUDGMENT YOU CANNOT ARGUE
Since FK put that as white on white, here:
“Hey @MLB I know of a really great place where we can get your umps some eyewear. I’m experienced in this area.”
It’s… not exactly doing a lot of good for Eric…
Thanks, and go As.
I’m not seeing anything there. I could be an ump!
Hee
This game has been far too exciting for my taste. I hope it’s really boring from here on out.
Sogard rejects your quick game wishes!
Noice!
Nicely done. I hope we don’t end up needing that run, but I’m still glad to see it
You know, he may only have like a .625 OPS or whatever, but Sogard is the best Keebler Elf in MLB.
Thanks, and go As.
And the worst.
shit.
Thanks, and go As.
And the most average.
Sogard is an acceptable backup utility infielder for this team.
If Norris is going to sac-bunt, why not leave the pitcher in to put it down?
Double switch had already been done when Doolittle came in.
They didn’t have to double switch is what he’s really saying.
He didn’t have to double switch, but it wouldn’t have been smart. Doolittle was clearly going another inning and you weren’t going to have him hit without the foreknowledge that Sogard was going to double.
This.
Of course not. It wasn’t a “should have done” but a “really you’re going to do that?” comment.
Thanks.
Double switch moved the pitcher spot to Jaso’s place in the order.
aka “NL ball.”
I was thinking the same thing.
Well we got our run back, Do It Doo!
They’re saying on TV it was called fan interference but that Blanco would have scored on that play. There have been many cases where it’s much more likely the runner would have scored. That wasn’t one.
The thing is, they’re just assuming that’s what the call was. They’re as in the dark as we are. I want to hear what Melvin has to say about it after the game.
Could be. That seems to be where it stands now, though. I really want to hear what it ended up being.
Btw… did someone get ejected? It sounded like it live, but it definitely wasn’t Melvin.
Chip Hale
It’s also being scored a double for Torres, rather than a single and advance on the throw.
(what throw? that’s the FSU/dmoas argument, that Cespedes shouldn’t have done his own umpiring and should have played the ball)
Everything is judgment calls and these umps have judged that they’re just happy to be in ATiT
Hey, this game is on channel 11!
And hey, they’re doing breast exams on channel 9!
Fuckin’ A, man.
Heh
Sweet.
Love it.
Words just cannot explain how stupid that chick in the panda hat looks.
Thanks, and go As.
I think she’s just there because it’s a place she can that hat out to. The stadium is just an accessory, you see.
Oh, those poor, dithering yuppies.
FUCK FUCK FUCK
Why must you be so good Scoot…
Fucking Scutaro is killing us
I’m told he has the second most hits in MLB (Cabrera) starting from when the Giants got him. Ichiro Jr.
Doo obviously stunned by the glory that is the 5 star ATandT.
Having hot water to shower with makes you weak, I tells ya!
ah shit
Gawddammit…
Shitshitshit
FKFKFKFKFK
That was for seeing Jesse Chavez head out to warm up.
I was standing, and the sight literally weakened my knees.
I’m dumbfounded…
So glad we used Balfour last night in a four-run game.
IKR, ugh.
Jesse Chavez?!?!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why is Jesse Chavez warming up? Are we giving up?
Yup that run is going to hurt…
Jesse Chavez? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(anyone here listening on the radio?)
Back and forth…now listening to Korach recount the glorious career of Mark Kiger.
KK dropped a “donnybrook” on the radio crowd. It was glorious.
Why the FUCK is Jesse Chavez getting up to throw?
Melvin’s on tilt without Chip Hale to tell him what he should do.
Melvin was expecting the Giants to take the lead?
When Jesse Chavez is the answer, you’re asking the wrong question.
Isnt about time to bring back Scribbles?
Chavez’s continued presence on the roster feels like a clerical error by the HR department.
/A’s fans in 2010
We “fixed” the “glitch”.
Jesse Chavez starts to throw?
This is ridiculous.
Now to chew up all the furniture
Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez Pls no Jessie Chavez
Need about 10 runs here.
I concur.
Machi Machi man…
“Cespedes looks like he wants to pull the ball.”
Ya think, Ray?
RALLY
I would feel better if Balfour hadn’t pitched last night for no particular reason, aside from the fact that he had already warmed up.
Getting twitchy for Donaldson’s AB.
From BBTF: ” Giants TV showed a split-screen replay of the ball’s course and Blanco running the bases. By the time the fan was bobbling the ball Blanco was about 5 feet from home plate, so even without the interference it is highly likely that he would have scored anyway.”
Is that true?
Not watching Gnats TV. Never watch Gnats TV.
There is no way that was humanly possible.
Agreed. Not even if Blanco has Usain Bolt speed.
What he’s NightCrawler?
What if he is Usains brother…Insane?
I’d have to ask Mr. Costas.
thx
FYI, Blanco was at first base. Even if he was running it was a sharp grounder that got to the mound area in the bullpen quickly. Blanco’s not THAT fast.
What? That’s not what I saw
I just rewound that, and he’s 3 or 4 steps shy of third base when the fan touches the ball.
So I’ll have to stop believing what I read on BTF.
Maybe BBTF should think harder.
All the thought manufacturing is moving overseas anyway.
Hey, they never said they are all GOOD thoughts.
Golly.
Those legs in the upper right hand corner are Cespedes. No way he doesn’t field that ball and gun him out if he were to try it.
Third, home, whatever.
/Tejada
!
sigh
Oh my god.
This is why if it really was ruled interference, whoever judged that Blanco would have scored needs his brain donated to science for study. Immediately.
And looking at it again, more like 6 or 7 steps short of third base.
Closer to half way to third than a third of the way to third.
Yeah, and that ball on the ground is after the interference.
And the only ones leaning over the railing are the douches who interfered and before Cespedes could get there from being that close to it, the pitching coach and usher jumped in the way.
Even if he was running on the play, there is just no way. He was starting from first and it was an ordinary ground ball down the third base line.
Sandoval makes Machi look skinny.
I’d feel better about Balfour vs. Pence in the B-9th if the A’s get another run or two first.
Ask and the Giants defense shall answer.
you mean like that? :D
Holy fail.
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
There’s a huge run. Thanks, Torres.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
hahahahaha FK the Giants.
LOL literally
Fuck yeah!
Relax guys, Young is goung to make this a non save situation.
Said no one.
Ever.
Now hold on, it could happen. The Giants are playing “defense.”
(could be when he misplays a ball in right field, turning a save situation into a loss)
How the FK can that be an RBI for JD?
I don’t think torres ever touched it.
Thanks, and go As.
Single and an E-7. There’s no way a runner from 1B is going to score on that single w/o the error. The official scorer is brain-dead.
Or the twin brother of the umpires.
He was almost at home when it was touched…wait, that sounds familiar.
Pretty sure he did. Even if it he didn’t, that was an error. About the same as a ball going through the wickets for an infielder.
\m/
Probably should have ruled that as defensive indifference.
The llama wins the gamethread.
Yup — deserving of something more virulent than an Annika — maybe some Nasty Superbug that Tiger might have picked up along the way?
TWNS!
BOOYAH
Luke Montz: good for something.
KK said he went down to the bullpen to serve as bullpen catcher.
I saw it. It was validating for his roster spot.
Goddamn it, Jesse Chavez again! Somebody in the stands better kneecap him, quick.
I can’t believe it…
Steal his glove!
Melvin realizes he still has Okajima in the pen right?
Balfour up too now.
Balfour was up the whole time.
He’s sitting right there in the dugout (I assume)!
I want the ani-gif!
Here y’are
Thanks! The second slip-pratfall is the cherry.
There’s bananas in them thar fields
Sac fly please!
Worthless. Trade CY ASAP, please.
Raul Ibanez is laughing at that play
Thanks, and go As.
FYCY
Freiman 0-16 vs righties on the year per KK. Walking him would be awesome.
Ha!
Alternatively …
He’s coming around. Having solid ABs and getting good contact.
Yeah, of the questionable guys on the roster he seems more worth having than Montz or Rosales.
Hit is even better.
Or that.
I hereby nominate him to be nicknamed the Sausage King of Chicago.
I really don’t know why it reminds me of Abe Froman so much, but… hey.
Thanks, and go As.
White shirt, sweater vest, devastatingly handsome…
Even better – off a righty sidearmer. Those guys are death on same-handed batters.
Nates have come up big in the Bay Bridge Series.
LOL – that seagull they zoomed in on dropped a deuce.
Hopefully it landed safely on a panda hat
They have a scoreboard graphic telling the fans to clap to scare the gulls! They should play every game here!!1!
They should just invest in some anti-seagull drones. I’m sure they can budget for that.
Raptors.
The only way I could get Lily not to freak out when we were pooped on in the front row seats was to tell her she was lucky that it pooped on me and only peed on her.
THOSE FAT SACKS FULL OF SOUTH BAY CASH SHOULD BE GOOD FOR SOMETHING!!!
I missed seeing the scoreboard request, but it didn’t work — the clapping agitated the gulls and sent them on to the field.
It actually did seem to work at least once.
NOT SO NEW GUY WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our giant > their Giants
golf clap
You can say they make cup end bats to change the center weight. I say it’s because it looks cool when stood up on the plate.
Freiman again. Wow.
“And that sends thousands of Giants fans up the aisles towards the exits.” — KK
So good, zing!
Bwahahaha
Sadly many heading home to the East Bay.
At least they might take their gear off in shame on the way.
FREIMAN!
Making the game safe for Jesse Chavez.
No game is *that* safe.
This game isn’t safe for Chavez. No game really is.
If we are down 10-0…
I do not assume this.
K K “…and that sends thousands of Giants fans up the aisles”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I gotta say, Freiman is looking a lot better than Carter, power aside.
I’d be down for them playing him some more.
Aaaaaaand Suck Ass does his duty…
Even more better than Brett Wallace. Kevin Goldstein has to be kicking himself, assuming he made that call.
And the power’s there. He’s just more focused on getting good contact it seems.
He’s a roster clogger. And by “he” I mean Chris Young.
I was about to type this:
He didn’t give me enough time to complete it.
Heh, I’m laughing it’s so sad.
Tagline?
Tagline.
I’m honored.
Eric Chavez is having a season right out of his alternative-universe prime: .325/.368/.588
He’s not a Bankee anynore so I can be happy for him.
Now if only he would “accidentally” push his manager down a flight of stairs…
In the first half no less!
lol
Dear Dbacks fans: Take it from fans that know. Eric Chavez will not have another at bat in your uniform. Also, take Chris Young back please.
I would swap CY25 for Chavez right no-injury and all.
Oh Rosy
Rage!
Our section raged (we had about 10-15 A’s fans within a couple rows). Turns out it’s hard to do without Balfour’s music.
Also, afterwards a Giants fan came over to ask WTF we were doing.
We were raging in 323, and I called out to the other A’s fans to join us. A couple of them did.
That was a big ass seagull.
They’re gonna piss GB off, not a good idea.
DP juju!
FUCK YES
Done and done.
HELL TO THE YEAH!
Loud “Let’s Go Oakland” chants.
Two outs!
Which was funny cause it was while Miller said “all’s quiet in the cove”
Thanks, and go As.
That was brilliant!
Grant!
Ragin’ DP
That sounds painful.
That was a great pitch.
It wasn’t without drama, but now the A’s can sweep the Giants with a win tomorrow.
And that can be a pair of 2-game sweeps or a whole 4-game one. Whatever suits your fancy.
If we lose, it’s a sweep and a split. If we win, it’s a 4-game sweep.
If we win it’s *THREE* SWEEPS. Two Two game sweeps and a four game season series sweep.
^^^^^
genius
and i surely will be three sweeps to the wind.
Gold over Orange!!!!
Oh, man, that win felt goooooooood!
[dances around the house]
SUCK IT PANDA HATTERS
So the A’s clinch the season series and get the trophy for a year. I guess that would be the “Broken Bolt”.
Heh heh.
Nice.
FK THE UMPS WITH A RAGING CABBAGE
OH YEAH OAKLAND A’S
6 in a row and 3 in a row over the Jive Ants!!!!!
Cool. I don’t think Balfour is available tomorrow.
But Zito is.
Gp.
We’ll have to have someone else ready for that critical “pitch the ninth with a 3-4 run lead” role.
Likely it’d be Cook tomorrow.
Do this to The Giants like we did to the Astros!
Hallelujah! Now I can finally go to sleep
Yeah, it was definitely a Yankees-speed game.
Always nice when you can give both the Giants and the umps a nice, hearty “FK you” in one night.
Hear hear.
That was a great win and all, but let’s not it distract us from the real issue: What’s the matter with Timmy?
OMG IK,R????
I know it’s a joke now, but the answer seems pretty simple. Lincecum is a junkballer now. Maybe he can be Frank Tanana, who started his career with a great fastball until transforming himself.
I don’t think that’s true. He’s still getting lots of Ks, and still makes nasty pitches. He just also makes hittable pitches sometimes.
Oh, we tied the 1st WC too btw.
Much as I want to see how that interference play was actually ruled, I’m tired and will find out tomorrow. Bedtime.
Wow. They really did rule that he’d have scored. How fucking dumb can you be?
Holy shit, that’s awful. Really, I’d rather the answer was they just somehow missed the interference entirely, because at least that’ll be a replay-correctable matter some day.
But as you said before, it almost never happens that umps award more than two bases, under any circumstances. It’s almost a cliche…”and that fan is gonna cost his team a sure run as the umps send the runner back to third.” So in order to award three bags it would have to be not just a marginal judgement call, but super-extra-clear. There is no fucking way that can be construed as an obvious judgement to award three bags. Just a horrible call.
That’s absolutely insane and there’s no defense for it. Much as I hate Sulia, I clicked the link to get what John Shea wrote:
Someone needs to show those incompetent assholes a replay.
Not only that, they really think Cespedes wouldn’t have gunned him at the plate with that much time to throw?
Yeah, Cespedes was there and would have had the ball in hand barely 100 feet past the bag before the runner would have touched 3rd. No way in hell he’s safe at home there.
Would have been a really dumb decision to even send the runner
Thanks, and go As.
Testing Cespedes with nobody out, down four runs in the sixth would be some seriously bad idea jeans, no matter how many brownies Tim Flannery has eaten at Dead shows over the years.
this. there was one out
and the giants should be punished for having an idiot fan
Preposterous
I tried to find all the fan interferences with a man on first and see on how many of them they awarded home, but could’t get the data I needed.
I’ve been to a lot of these sf games, and tonight was definitely the biggest A’s fan presence.
Heyman was right – there is a certain extra charm to beating the Giants at ATandT.
what’d I miss?
Yeoman-like 9-6 victory. Pretty uninteresting.
Nothing. The sprinklers never came on.
That was a very fun night at the ballpark. And now I came home and caught the last bit of “San Francisco” on TCM. Crash! Boom! There goes City Hall! But it’s okay, folks, you can camp out in Golden Gate Park and hear Jeanette MacDonald sing “Nearer My God To Thee”.
That as fun tonight!
I have to say I was surprised by the number of women in Giants gear who were very much the worse for drink. Particularly the gamer cougar with the bouffant hair in front of me who couldn’t sit still for more than 10 seconds, so that I was having to move my head constantly to find the plate behind her puffy blonde do. Fortunately her whole party left in the sixth inning.
Bwahahaha!
The A’s are 12-0 against orange-based teams from western divisions. (1-3 vs. the Orioles, so I had to be clever)
(I guess you could count 1-2 vs. the Tigers too)
There is way, way too much orange in MLB these days.
From Grant:
That assumes Giants fans can differentiate between a ball in play and one that’s not.
Don’t they get signs on the scoreboard? I mean, how will they know when to clap?
Maybe technology can figure out a way to make the ball change color once it crosses the foul line.
FoxTrax!
They need an app, they’re on their phones anyway
i’ve been thinking about a non-computer, non-replay way to help umps “get it right” and i think a colored light, like a laser, but much wider, that falls exactly over the plate might work. if any part of the ball crosses over the plate, it would turn that color momentarily. and i realize it’s only a blink of an eye, but, hence the color. a camera flash is just as quick, but you can tell if you had your eyes open when someone was taking your pic depending on whether you saw the flash as red or as blue. (i’m still working on how to get a light to show she height of the zone without flashing a light in the batters’ eyes.)
Or just assume anything close is fair and then let replay fix it.
oops. my bad. foul ball light was what reminded me, but my idea deals solely with strikes/balls.
We definitely need a computerized ball/strike system. There’s just no good reason not to.
the reason is that my system could actually be better. it’s direct evidence. you’re not asking a third party to see something you can’t, that relies on technology that is under the hood and arguable, and then show it to you in a side monitor. you’re seeing it yourself, everyone in the ballpark is, live, and as true as it comes. and if MLB’s resistance against computers is the human factor, umps making the calls and gavelling them in with their attention-seeking pirouettes, this kind of erases that opposition.
No, I’m not asking someone to look at anything. It’s an electronic system that on the fly calls it a ball or strike with a signal to the plate ump. No hood or subjectiveness. That’s what we’re trying to eliminate.
the signal to the plate ump. that’s what i’m saying is the extraneous thing to look at/receive info from. i’m saying, quite literally, shine a light on the thing itself to see it better. you’re saying, have a better instrument see it better and tell you what it sees. still feeling like mine’s better. except i didn’t account for day games. which is when you can try your system if you let me try mine at night.
I’m talking about balls and strikes. No idea how you’d shine a light on anything for that or why you’d need to.
did you read my 11:31 ¶ above? when i read it, it seems to mention both how and why.
and my 1:02 says let’s not make the ump look at something extraneous to the play because that seems extraneous. to which you say you’re not asking them to look at something extraneous, just to look at a signal shown somewhere else than the play, coming from somewhere else on the field than were the play happened, that tells them whether the play right in front of them was a ball or a strike. to which i say in my 2:26 that this very signal is the extraneous thing they’d be looking at. to you respond that… you’re talking about balls and strikes. (which we already covered in my 12:28.)
in other words, i’m not seeing any evidence that you’re participating with me in this conversation with the same degree of interest or attention i’m putting into it and it behooves me to discontinue it. sorry.
Honestly, I don’t understand about 90% of what you’re trying to say and I’m just doing my best to piece together whatever point you’re trying to make and obviously failing.
i appreciate your honesty.
Also:
corresponding sound effect.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee was doing a live interview in the studio adjacent to the one I was working in this morning. I usually don’t wear an A’s cap in the control room, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to mean-mug him through the glass door on his way out.
You should have photobombed him.
Hard to do on the radio.
Shout out “How’s your friend Steve Curry?”
I just don’t think you want to try hard enough.
ORLY?
Brandon McCarthy not helping the cause.
