Guess not. It’s like everyone has something better to do.
Just finished helping at Mrs Aces class. About to switch on the game and check in.
When Moss looks bad, he looks really bad.
Roy Steele’s voice will never get old.
Excellent.
Well, that turned around in a hurry.
That terrible AB by Reddick is clearly fresh in Griffin’s mind, causing an unforeseen dependency between the two events.
I’m starting to think it is me…
Those were crappy throws by Crisp and Sogard. The play at the plate wasn’t as close as I thought it would be.
I do not really care which one, but either Griffin or Parker needs to sit for Straily.
Griffin has been much better than Parker. Also much better than Anderson, for that matter.
Yeah. This is the first time Ive really been down on a Griffin start. But that could also be expectations…I think Anderson and Parker should be better…
He has been better, but I imagine that after today he will join Parker in the negative WAR club.
Anderson.
Every time I hear Sal or Holtzman, I always think I would prefer them to Fosse. But I imagine if any of them had been around for 20 years I would be sick of them too.
It’s why I think most color commentators have a shorter shelf life, or should. There’s only so long they can really be relevant without eventually repeating themselves too much.
Reggie is almost as annoying as Fosse, so naturally they’re giving him the most time.
Well they want to make sure to get their money’s worth.
Josh Donaldson is not the problem.
#betterfielderthanyouthink
Josh Donaldson, ladies and gentlemen. Guy can hit and field.
So, apparently we suck.
I’ll bet Brian Matusz has had his last name mispronounced a lot more than mine, and it happens to me often.
How’s yours pronounced, both correctly and mistakenly and how do they miss on his?
Mine’s ‘Ve-NES’ and I get all sorts: Van Ness, VEH-nes, Veenes, etc. It’s got some Czech background and was Venesz at one time.
Matusz is “Mat-uz” and I think it was Kuiper who used to think it was something like ‘Ma-tooz.’
Czech or Polish? I don’t think there is “sz” in Czech
Well, not 100% sure. There’s German, Czechoslovakian (not sure which side) and Hungarian in my ancestry.
Hungarian also has sz. The difference is that Hungarian sz reads “s” as in “seven”, and Polis “sh” as in “shoe”. I’m pretty sure neither Czech nor Slovakian have “sz” construct.
Speaking of which, I made Szegedin goulash the other day again. I just love that stuff.
Based on that and the pronunciation of my last name, it sounds like it’s got more of a Hungarian side to it.
I always thought the Czech side was more prevalent mainly because I know my grandmother on my mom’s side had strong ancestry there and she even spoke some Czech along with having an old recipe for kolaches I know my aunt’s been trying out as well.
That is entirely possible, as a family name in the Nth generation could reveal as little as 2 to the negative power of N (andeux can make it appear as a formula, I think).
Also, what is that recipe? KolÃ¡Ä is a word that describes any cake in Slavic languages, which one did she make?
One of these days I’ll have to do a little more digging.
The food is basically a filled pastry of some kind. Here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolache
The kinds she’s made have been filled with stuff like cream cheese, poppy seed or various fruits like peaches, blueberries, etc.
Oh yeah, and Venice.
This is basically how I pronounce your name in my head.
It’s mispronounced so often, especially by supermarket cashiers, that it doesn’t even bug me. I usually say, “Don’t worry, almost nobody gets it right.”
hm… this problem seems familiar. i’ve opted for hearing my initials as a nickname rather than my name as a vocal turd. the worst is when you say someone your name and you can see them try to spell it in their heads and they read what they’ve spelled to you and it’s really nothing like the word you just said.
“say someone your name” = “tell someone your name”
can’t type in english while watching spanish TV…
Worse is when the clerk decides they have to keep trying until they get it right. Dude, I really don’t give a shit if some random person I may never see or interact with again can pronounce it. Just call me by my first name or call me sir. Whatever.
I hate that they are made to say our names
I do Veens
Someone who is at the park need to let us know what was going on inthe stands during T8.
Think someone threw the home run back and got the boot.
throw it back! throw it back!
ball thrown back
security arrives to do its duty.
let him stay! let him stay!
cheering. booing.
cops show up.
cheering. booing.
cops leave. security leaves. dude stays!
cheering.
Am I the only one who thinks our home crowd has gotten a lot worse at judging fly balls this year? Seems like I hear more unwarranted enthusiasm on routine flies hit by the A’s.
It comes from having more people go to games who don’t often go to games.
i cheered for more than one that didn’t do anything. today i had a POV i wasn’t used to though.
If Josh Donaldson gets the chance to win this game today, he will.
Goddamn.
suck
As far as i am concerned, it was a good game.
Of course I heard non of it. My enthusiasm comes from having looked at my phone during a donaldson at bat and seeing injury delay. And it wasn’t Donaldson.
Were you in jail again?
I was at a baseball game.
by baseball, I mean there was a game with a ball, gloves uniforms with numbers(two kids in high scks), bats, and bases. I am not sure any of the other constructs of a baseball game applied, though
So….another good game I see. The starting pitching outside of Colon has been less than stellar.
Yes, that’s right.
Backstory: at the beginning of last year (I think) the A’s changed the policy, which had been “no throwing back”, and announced that it was okay to throw home runs back if it was done in a manner that did not endanger players or fans. Obviously subjective, and also I’ve heard that some security people aren’t aware of the change.
The ball landed in 149, the heart of the hardest core of the right field bleachers. It was caught by Shin, who some of you might remember as the wearer of the Godzilla mask in the Matsuiland days. He passed it on to Jorge, who…well, don’t take my word for it:
Next time aim for Lew’s box.
it WAS a good throw. i was like, heads up, sogard!
Wow, not bad!
Were you catching the umpire in the midst of some kind of interpretive dance between batters?
just analyzing batting average as a function of hosiery…
its fine fine hosiery
but one’s finer!
though now that you mention it…
it’s just an ump to the left
and then a step to the right
with your hands on your hips
you bring your knees in tight…
(but it’s the
pelvic thrustlow outside called strikethat really drives you unsay-ay-ay-ay-ane.)
This means he’s won 7 times when the Mariners have only scored 1 run (101-78 overall).
It also means 89 of his 244 starts (36.5%) have seen the Mariners fail to score at least 2 runs.
HAI GUYS! ANYBODY NEED ANYTHING?
gulp.
Well, it took two days for Reddick to move from batting third “based on the fact he’s swinging well again”, to benched against a right-hander.
Lowrie also not playing now. Crap.
He did hit into the game ending double play, so I have no idea what may have happened (not that I would have anyways).
So Langerhans + 2 home games…
cuz michael taylor could not have played those 2 games
He needs to play everyday Ed, it was the right thing to do. SMH
It’s possible that the A’s wanted to keep Wells longer by designating Freiman instead, but they weren’t able to figure out a way to keep Freiman in the system. 100K isn’t a paltry sum to the A’s and I can’t see them knowingly waste it for just 5 at bats of Casper Wells.
$20k per PA ain’t bad for Wells, though. That’s a good $13 million over 650 of ’em.
(I know, it’s not the same thing)
