Yesterday’s thread got lounged and swelled up.
The Oakland A’s led by A.J. take on L.A. (the real one) on CSN-CA with Glen and Ray.
Freiman starts at DH.
#Athletics vs. #Dodgers: Young CF, Sizemore 2B, Lowrie 3B, Cespedes LF, Moss 1B, Smith RF, Norris C, Freiman DH, Nakajima SS (Griffin P)
— Jane Lee (@JaneMLB) March 24, 2013
yay, glen and ray on tv for my last time this year
There’s that one KOFY game that Soaker mentioned.
oh, right, I gotta get an antenna
I don’t imagine any Reno station will pick that up so I guess I’m SOL that night. One of the Sacramento stations might grab it.
Lowrie Dinger! 2 all!
We’re gonna be glad we picked him up.
I wasn’t thrilled with the move when it happened, but I’m pretty psyched about it now. Of course the minute he gets injured…
I like him. I hope the nakajima stuff is just talk
So many people are talking about his problems its hard to think they would just plug him in and forget it..
I’m just glad to have a team that might bat over .233.
Is Freiman that big of a deal or are the beat writers just bored? There’s like 5 new articles written about Freiman.
New toy I’m guessing, also our other options at 1B are pretty underwhelming.
And flies out to RF…
Long Spring + A Week from Season + No real decisions happening soon + Anything New = Exciting.
+ He’s really tall
No shit. We were in the first row, right at the A’s on deck circle. There was a moment in the later innings when he and Sogard were getting ready for the start of the inning. The contrast between the two was pretty hilarious.
You mean the new guy doesn’t wear glasses?!
Wouldn’t mind seeing an early Indiana exit, no sirree.
I can’t think of Temple without thinking of 1. Jon Cheney storming John Calipari’s press conference to threaten him, and 2. Bill Cosby.
So yeah, go Temple.
Gave it a helluva shot.
Glen pronouncing Hiro like Jairo. That’s wrong, isn’t it?
Yeah should sound close to Hero but the R sounding more like an accented short D kinda.
I think his last name is pronounced Na-KAH-jima as well fwiw.
And Slusser is on it:
“Those” being “fans of the RiverCats” (SPACE INTENTIONALLY OMITTED BECAUSE FK YOU GUYS!!!!1)
this was seconds after glen mispronounced it on TV, but yeah
I pronounce it “Santiago.”
Heh
Looks like he’ll be getting a real look
Weird line for Griffin.
3 inn/ 6K/ 0BB/ 3H/ 3ER/ 2HR.
His xFIP is great!
The Dodgers’ white caps look terrible.
Finally managed to get the MLB app on my PS3 to work for ST. Too bad my working-from-home days are over.
Sizemore not helping himself this spring.
41 AB/ 5R/ 7 H/ 1 2B/ 1 3B/ 4 RBI/ 9 BB/ 15 K/ .175 AVG/ .320 OBP/ .256 SLG (ouch)/ .576 OBP
The 30% K rate (
same asworse than Nakajima) is what stands out for me. Especially combined with the lack of power..968 Fielding % doesn’t help either.
I either missed a subtle joke, or you missed the fact that exactly one error fewer would give him 1.000 fielding percentage. FP numbers rarely give any valuable information and especially not when viewed over 30 total chances at middle infield
You are correct, that was pretty stupid, I guess I’m just excited to have new #’s to look at. ;)
I know – I missed them, too :)
Vernon Wells to the Bankees HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Why would they do this in a year when they are supposedly trying to trim salary to get under the luxury tax? Insanity.
They’ve really been smashed by injuries this year to be fair, but it doesn’t help their median age is 39
:Sniffs: Yup. Reeks of desperation.
I don’t want the Angels to get out from under that contract. They better still be paying for nearly all of it.
Apparently the Yankees would only pick up about 13 million of the 42 left.
still
Why would they even do that? I wouldn’t pay Wells more than league minimum.
Bases drunk!!!
Tied!
Not no more it ain’t.
WOO!
Theth 2 run thingle, 5-3 A’s!
Brawney!
Can he still be Brawndon?
Norris SMASH
Norris no doubter, 7-3 yAy’s !!!
Well based on the games I’ve seen this weekend I’m pretty sure the A’s will set all kinds of offensive records this year.
Heh, I am starting to remember when I expected the A’s to hit well, always beat the Angels and Rangers, and have the ROY.
Holy carp, ball sounds pretty nice off of ‘New Guy’s’ bat!
Apparently we are welcoming GoutInfo.com as a new sponsor on the Athletics Radio Network this season.
Heh
Another radio comment, as Johnny Doskow is filling in for Cotroneo today: I wonder why Doskow isn’t the guy doing the weekday spring training games on MLB.com. It seems like he’d be a more logical choice than some mercenary from the ESPN Radio affiliate in Phoenix.
KKKKKKK
K
Brett has a very nice voice….not saying anything interesting, but nice voice.
He is somewhat serene.
Not exactly an easy play, but that was a pretty bad throw by Nakajima there.
I was thinking the same thing. Very long, loopy and slow.
That was strike 3.
Again? C’mon BLUE!!!
Considering he was squeezed on the curve this inning not a bad showing from Griffin.
Reddick looks like he just popped out of Duck Dynasty.
It’s a little bizarre to look at the scoreboard and see OAK/LAD and SF/LAA next to each other.
Sigh.
So I guess Iowa State got FKed over by a bad call again. I wish the NCAA would stop this practice of giving the high seeds virtual home games during the tournament.
Also, I get to start off my work week tomorrow by telling one of my better employees that he’s being laid off.
wow
Looks like we may have to wait for the next cuts.
Bob also muses Weeks was a ‘tough cut’.
I was a little surprised they dropped Weeks as early as they did.
Have to think there’s at least one trade coming this week to clear out the infield issues.
That’s be exciting, it’s a clusterfuck for sure.
‘d*
Huh
As many MLB middle infielders as the A’s have right now, there isn’t much that’s “out of the question”. It depends on which GM comes to Billy with the best offers for specific players. Obviously with Hanley out it wouldn’t be too surprising if somebody who wore an A’s uniform today is standing on the foul line at Dodger Stadium on Monday for their Opening Day introductions.
This depth is pretty nice.
Sogard winning a starting job would be an inspiration to spectacle-wearing children everywhere.
And the elven-folk.
I saw Sogard walking down the hall at FanFest last year, and resisting the impulse to yell KEEBS!, told him he was an inspiration to all spectacle-wearing A’s fans. He smiled, looked at my Coke-bottle lenses, and said “Represent.”
You shouldn’t have resisted.
Awesome!
That is AWESOME.
Nice, but with all due respect to the Keebs fans, if somebody is willing to give me a quality prospect for him based on his .500 batting average in spring training, that’s a sell-high situation if ever I saw one.
Nice! Has anyone seen http://baseballplayerswithglasses.tumblr.com/?
Wikipedia also has a list of bespectacled baseball players: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bespectacled_baseball_players
Heh. bookmarking
That is all kinds of great
that means no nakajima atshort
So 32 (15 pitchers, 17 hitters) of the players on the 40-man roster.
Probably counting Colon (suspended) but not Rodriguez (60-day DL).
And three non-roster players: Okajima, Ekstrom, and Montz (extra catcher).
O M G, my gf got us tix to see Dave Chappelle tonight at Yoshi’s!!!! #sofugginlucky
So the Comical is making another go at hiding some of its content behind a $12/month paywall. Same response as last time: FOAD.
I like the way the new site looks. If the only content they’re paywalling is columnists, though, that’s a bad move because their columnists mostly suck.
Good luck with that. All that shit can be available by others for free.
yeah, no thanks
They won’t get more than a couple dozen subscribers at $12/month. OK, not literally, but still, there’s not much revenue to be found with this strategy and I think all you do is weaken your brand name by driving your regular visitors to other sites.
The NYT is making huge amounts on their paywall.
Not surprising others are testing the waters.
um. I know you aren’t comparing the content. You are a smart fellow.
The NYT is one of the few businesses that has enough unique inventory to pull this off. The Chronicle has been slashing its inventory for years now.
This. The Chronicle has almost no original news coverage. That it has can be covered better by the SFBG and blogs.
Of course not, but NYT is proof that a newspaper can have a paywall. If you’re a newspaper, that impacts your thinking (though I agree the Chron is a totally different thing).
Since ownership is so concentrated, I wonder if one paywall for many properties could work.
BTW the red box on Susan’s avatar is part of an informational Twitter-picketing that Chronicle writers are doing to protest Hearst’s proposal to jack up their share of the health care. I don’t know if they timed it for the paywall introduction time, but it was good timing.
serious question, is it that hard to get money from web ads?
I suspect the amount of money is shrinking.
yes. ad sale revenue is declining rapidly across the web.
Better cash in those shares, quick.
The future is key-stroke harvesting. And the future is FKing now.
NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo
It appears that FK passes through Twitter’s tracking on threads that have embedded tweets. I have Chrome set to send a Do Not Track request, it’s interesting to see who ignores it.
Interesting. I guess it is remote-loading the images from twitter.
I’ve been using Ghostery. It’s really kind of scary going around to different sites and seeing all the trackers that it’s blocking.
Thanks, I tried it and it blocks google analytics for this site. Then, just for fun, I tried **:
No wonder it takes forever to load.
Yeah, no idea why google analytics pops up.
Maybe something the host does without even asking?
Probably some link or embedded item or another. Twatter might be causing it.
Twitter, some embedded photo or Youtube vid would all be suspects.
My money’s on youtube given the joint ownership.
They should pay me to read Bruce Jenkins not the other way around.
This is fair assessment of his writing talent.
This way you’re less likely to get accidentally exposed to it.
Any of you FK legal types have a recommendation for a good labor lawyer? I have a friend who is in need of one.
might have a name in albany by target.
email me (I assume you can see my email)
Just emailed you!
I don’t, but I am sure someone at the firm would. If Ed’s name doesn’t work out (or you just want more recs), shoot me an email with a bit more detail about the issue and I’ll see what I can come up with.
more names are always better
Thanks will do! I’ll try to get a few more details from my friend.
Not a lawyer but know a bunch if you need help.
lots of unions use these guys
http://www.unioncounsel.net/
Thanks so much I’ll keep that in mind if he asks me any questions that you might be able to advise on!
Enjoying listening to Bob Uecker on the Brewers’ feed. Makes me feel like re-watching Major League.
Juuuuuuust a bit over my head.
I grew up w/ the guy, he IS baseball for me!
