Looking at my Oscar predictions I didn’t do very well but I did get darn close with my length prediction. I said 3 hours 34 minutes and I guess it was 3 hours and 35 minutes…only 3 of those hours were MacFarlane making sexist jokes.

I watched it on the plane back from London, and thought it was OK-ish. It dealt with some of the issues with time-travel and crossed timelines in an interesting way, but ultimately the plot just wasn’t rich enough to carry 2 hours of film.

I like Alex Smith…he handled this very well. I think Cleveland with Norv Turner being the OC would be a nice spot for him. He did well under Norv before.
I can see both sides of the situation. Yes, he did get FKed by several HCs and OCs, benched for guys like JT Osullivan or Shaun Hill is just kind of crappy. It’s unfortunate that he got a concussion and lost his starting job, but he actually lost his job to a guy that is better than him.
Plus, he’s got like 50 million dollars in the bank — so, frankly, I don’t think that the organization “owed” him his release or anything like that. Guys lose their jobs all the time. Aside from that one year with Turner as his OC, Harbaugh friggin MADE him. He should be glad that he’s got teams after him now, cause 2 years ago nobody wanted him.

She’s something of an updated version of Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart at their peak, and very loud. So? They only really care about corporate dollars. I’d guess they’re spending their time and money on that instead of the brand itself. Not saying that’s the best way of maximizing said dollars, but it’s what they’re doing.
If the team isn’t desirable to the public eventually the corporate dollars will dry up too. Corporate dollars flow because people want to go the the games, so a corporation can spend a little money to impress a client. If the clients don’t give a fuck they corporate money won’t be there.

Any Bay Area sports team needs to reach out to corporate partners regionally.
In the A’s case, Oakland-based corporations will not be enough. A dearth of Oakland-based corporations does not need to be seen as a liability, as long as there are enough regional partners.
Getting corporate folks to want to go to the Coliseum, especially having them travel some distance, is no small task. And as a result, it’s going to cut into your bottom line since there’s less of an incentive for them to pay top dollar for an experience that’s sub par.
That is so right, and so incredibly important, and also largely ignored (or at least not remotely adequately addressed) by all three of the Oakland-based teams. Of the three, the Warriors are probably the best at marketing to corporations regionally.
Food for thought, but if three separate, independent teams that play in the same location all fail at this, perhaps it’s not the teams?
No, it’s the teams. The A’s fail because they don’t try (and for at least 10 years have made a deliberate point of not trying, lest it undermine their migratory ambitions). The Raiders fail because their insular organization won’t admit they’re bad at it and need help, and because they’ve earned themselves some awful negative brand association. The Warriors succeed, more or less, but not as much as they should be able to based on their stalwart attendance base. In their case I think lack of continuity through ownership transitions has also hurt.
Let me ask you, what do you actually expect from marketing to corporate folks? It’s kind of a nebulous expectation to do better without defining what they should be doing, how much it costs to do it, and what’s actually gained from both ends of it (the team and the corporation).
To be fair, it’s also easier for the Warriors since they’re also the only one that’s not a #2 team in a two team market.
The A’s have been pretty static in that regard. Not up, not down. And the reality is any marketing/ad dollars spent would at best result in nominal gains (likely wouldn’t even achieve that). Short of something that’ll bring a large enough influx of revenue so that they go from havenots to haves in the MLB revenue sharing system, there’s virtually no incentive to do anything more than maintain the status quo which is exactly what they’ve done.

Nurse U says it sounds like pleuritis…have you had a chest cold recently? Pleuritis is an inflammation of the pleural layer, the fluid-filled lining around the heart and lungs. Helps maintain equal pressure internally. If it’s pleuritis death is probably not imminent.

Why did they have to make bigotry, sexism, and racism such major themes in the show when its pretty minor to non-existant in the comic?

I’m not really sure I’d say the show has anything to really do with bigotry, sexism, or racism. They certainly aren’t really major themes. They had a couple of moments early in the first season and that’s basically it. And even then it was mostly just as an aside. I don’t disagree that some of the changes they’ve made have been questionable and they’ve trashed some really good characters. But then they’ve added/boasted up a couple of good characters as well.

Merl is the embodiment of all three, he’s pretty much a vehicle to introduce the issues to the show, even worse he’s portrayed more as a badass hillbilly than a degenrate.
Not really, he’s just schmuck who’s out for himself. He’s basically treats everyone, including his own brother, equally like shit. Very little of it’s racist or sexist, just egomaniac assholery.
Im less enchanted by that show since its return.
I gave up on this show after season 2. Is it worth getting back into it?
Season 3 was definitely better. Hard to tell about this season.
The shows airing now are still considered to be part of Season 3, per the increibly annoying pattern shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men have established, breaking a “season” into two sections separated by 6-9 months.
In this case it was just about 3 months.
And yet somehow not only 33-50% as annoying as when the other shows did it.
Well, it’s the trade off of having them take 2 or 3 week breaks several times a season with re-runs or spending a full year in between seasons and losing their audience. Not saying it’s not annoying, cause it’s sure as fk is.

Basically someone hurt my feelings tonight, and I’m upset with her for having such a thin veneer that she snapped at me for nothing, and doubly upset me when she didn’t realize that I was upset because she had snapped at me.

I go out of my way to treat people respectfully, and venting on me for no reason is a huge faux pas.
My wife reminds me that in the kink community, some “dommes” and “doms” take their role outside of the bedroom and dungeon and try to play that role in places where it most certainly does not belong, like vanilla egalitarian spaces.
My mentor reminds me that the only difference between the gardening club and the kink club is the designated activity. The social element with its’ inherent dynamics (good and bad) is interchangeable.

I had trouble sleeping last night too. Which was unfortunate since I had to be up for an early call with Europe this morning…that everyone over there bailed on this morning. So now I woke up early for no reason! Hooray!
The worst. While I never have to deal with overseas I do get the fun of “well our earliest sites open at 5Am ET so we need to meet at 515 for an update on the weather conditions”. Noting better than 2:15 in the morning hearing 2 people argue over how much snow is falling outside their house and if it is driveable for their employees. Meanwhile I am on mute thinking MOVE TO CA ASSHOLES!!!
