Oakland Athletics placed 1B Bobby Crosby on the 15-Day disabled list retroactive to August 18, 2009. strained left calf
Oakland Athletics activated 1B Daric Barton from the 15-Day disabled list.
… gotta be followed by at least one more move, right?
you better hope to God you don't show up in this little community, because you'll wish you had never come
I would think they would want a backup infielder on the roster, yeah. And no longer have any use for a former infielder now limited to being a bad DH … although there’s still an extra pitcher on the roster, so they’ll probably just send down Gray or Marshall instead.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they sent Buddha Stick back down — not that it would make a ton of sense (I’d guess Barton 1B/Cust DH the rest of the season, though they could just platoon Everidge and Cust/Barton through 1B/DH), but it would be in keeping with the [opaque/vague positive statement about player]-[sending player down 3 days later] modus operandi.

Well, now, I hadn’t thought of that option (odd, since I was/am the co-sponsor along with Mister Vee) — I guess they could start Barton at 3B and just have Kennedy be the UI/backup.

They wouldn’t need to start Barton at 3B, they’d just have to move him there for a few innings if one of the other infielders went down. And while I agree that you could live with Kennedy-2B, Ellis-SS, Barton-3B, or something like that, for half a game in the event of injury, doing so in order to keep Nomar and Marshall on the roster still seems kind of daft.
Well, doing anything in order to keep Nomar on the roster at this point is daft.
But I would argue that having Barton and Buddha Stick on the active roster and only starting one of them (which unless I am mistaken seems to be your presumption in the above — let’s all concede, pretty silly — scenario) would also be daft.

No, I am not assuming that- Barton 1B, Everidge DH, Cust in the OF. In fact, that seems like a pretty likely starting lineup given that Hairston has been hurting. And, yeah, in the above unlikely injury scenario, it means you also either lose the DH or play Nomar at 1B. Again, not really optimal, but not a big deal either.
In any case, I would also strongly disagree with you – if for some reason I were forced to pick among Kennedy, Everidge, and Barton for the two corner infield spots, I would play Kennedy at 3B and platoon the other two at first.
this is an easy call for Tim Geithner. Or, it would be, if Tim Geithner had balls between his legs, instead of a pair of Ford Foundation cufflinks his Daddy bought him as a present for his graduation from Dartmouth.

It was really pathetic. I got there at about 6:50 and the stacks of bobblehead cartons (full) were still shoulder-high. Final attendance count (which is always more than actual attendance) was only a little over 15,000.
There's a wild thing in the woolshed and it's keeping me awake at night.
I wonder what they do with gray-market leftover bobbles? Re-purpose them with new heads/paint jobs? (I can’t imagine that’s cost-effective.) Sell them to the Rockies? Donate them to some Bono-esque charity so they end up brightening the lives of some sub-Saharan kids?

I’m thinking they look for retail outlets to buy them. Most likely those online/not necessarily with a brick and mortar presence. IOW, I wouldn’t expect ot see them at Macy’s anytime soon, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a deluge of them on sale through eBay.
This does appear to be a longstanding issue. The docket from Duchscherer’s divorce case shows that an order “compelling husband to produce medical records” was issued by the court on 6/27/2008, and that was followed a few weeks later by the appointment of a mental health expert.
The divorce and custody proceedings were concluded last December. Just a few weeks ago (July 13), Justin closed on the purchase of a new house in Chandler, AZ. This place is over 6000 sq. ft. with 6 bedrooms and 4 baths and it looks like he paid $800K. Yes, in this market $800K buys you a lot of house in the Phoenix area. But imagine a single guy moving into a place like that and hearing the echoes. It rings of material wealth but emptiness on the spiritual/relationships side. Perhaps the new house could have triggered enough of a crisis that Justin was convinced to confront his issues.
This stuff is all public record and freely available on the Internet via the appropriate government websites. I don’t think public information should be regurgitated onto the Internet just because it’s possible to do it (e.g. I’d never disclose a player’s home address, even though that’s right on a couple of the documents referenced above), but given this afternoon’s disclosures it seems OK to use the public record to shed a bit more light on the issue.
“Aw, look at the old baseball player forgetting what things were really like when he played. Isn’t he cute?”
Then of course there’s the stupid response
Other sports can be fun too.
Sickels sees a game. Knows everything.
Well, that’s … uh …

Why?
Daric Barton, backup 3B/SS/2B?
mikev wins!

Ah, fair ’nuff. I’d forgotten about Hairston’s owie. (Doesn’t that make for another daft roster decision, carrying, essentially, only two real OFs?)
You are throwing yourself in the path of the Barton-to-third bandwagon?
Yes and yes.
I’m picturing a line of Chinese tanks standing in the way of one guy out for a walk.
Well sure, but we can’t for the life of us remember that Buck kid’s number.
New combo nickname: Nomarshall (sounds like “no more shall” … be on the roster)
1. Bad luck
2. Good luck
Wait. You don’t suppose…
Taibbi (who else):
And if you want a (mostly) ad hominem-free entry that agrees with me and nm on the hc-reform issue …
I’d forgotten that was tonight.

Sometimes I really like Gaijin_Suketto.
The music line?
Btw… guess who’s a proud recipient of a love note from nico?
Yep. “Topanga Canyon.” {snerk}
Really? Congratulations.
Really. And not in his auspices as speaker of the CGV committee either.
I thought he
was fired from that positiongraciously stepped aside for the good of the collective. And my snarkometer may be low on juice — he sent you a nasty/chiding note, right?
Check your email.
Christ, what ** asshole
I didn’t think he had it in him.
I’d like to read that…
You got it.
My favorite part is that he called himself “chief administrator.” Too bad he left it lower case.
Too many chiefs, not enough
IndiansInjuns (WAP A PAP!!!!!!) (fixed -Nm)The juxtaposition of the comment and the sig amused me.
It was about the famous nevermoor sarcasm! I hadn’t even noticed any skirmishes; I guess I read the wrong threads there….
Seriously. It was like two days ago I was getting yelled at for having no sense of humor.
When you scamps get together, you’re worse than a sewing circle.
Uh, yikes.
Whoa. I would never have guessed that one. Hope he can beat it and go all Zack Greinke on us next year.
Me neither, and ditto.
If we’re playing Price Is Right rules, I think PT came closest.
I was thinking it was something like that… :\
Extremely decent statements from Duke’s agent.

Oh, Duke. This makes me so sad for him. As much as I want him to pitch for the A’s, I would much rather he get himself better. Good luck, Duke.
Yeah, I don’t even want to go see how many of certain people at AN are bitching about how he let the team down and should pay back some of his salary…
Don’t worry, no one is.
Ugh. Very, very sad. I’m glad that he is getting some help.
Daft
ABOLISH THE DAFT NOW!
HELL NO, WE WON’T KNOW
All we are saying/is give Petit a chance
(Too bad we weren’t talking about pitchers here.)
A heartbreaking blog post of staggering something.
