      I for one applaud the GOP’s commitment to its base, and I urge them to not waver in the face of those who say the party is headed for demographic irrelevance.

        Indeedy. And Maddow last night showed the composition of the two committees remaining for chair assignments, and the Repubs on the committees are – gasp! – all white men.

      The problem is really quite obvious. All of these photos were taken with different lighting. The color balance and density varies quite a bit. Really poor editing.

    Okay, I don’t like to bother yous’ns with my weekly blog, but I’m running a fiscal cliff-diving contest where participants get to remake the federal budget as they see fit. It’s a game built by the Concord Coalition — I’m guessing it might appeal to a few folks around here, and Primo’s Pizza is worth the drive, IMHO. So, feel free to play — directions in link.

    Shooty Babbit. Analyst.

    “That’s the tough one. The reason it is so tough is because Scott Sizemore hasn’t done enough to earn that second base job. He came in and did a good job to earn the third base job, but he hasn’t proven to everybody he can play second base every day at the major league level. That’s why they moved him to third.

    Or, you know, they didn’t have a third baseman. Either way.

      Even reading his opinions on the web, I picture him finishing his analysis by flashing me that killer smile.

    • Glorious Mundy Nov 29,2012 1:46 pm || Up

      Also, this doesn’t sound very encouraging:

      Grant Green can play second base and I always felt that would be his best position because I felt he could be an offensive second baseman. He catches the balls that are hit to him, he’s got a slow gait, he doesn’t have a quick first step, but he is an instinctive guy, I think he is not as exposed at second base.

      • dmoas Nov 29,2012 1:58 pm || Up

        Um… that’s what you expect out of someone you hide at first, not second.

              I probably should know that. I did know that the previous iterations of the country have typically been much friendlier to the Jewish people than just about any other European country, but as few Jews as there are there, I wasn’t sure if that legacy had been carried forward by more modern iterations of the country.

        Or it could be the case of Virginia Linguistica, or how my wife used to order food and drink in Croatia. With very limited vocabulary at the time, and not understanding what the waiter was saying, she would regularly say “the same” when asked to order. So she would always get what the person sitting next to her would order. I would check where Palau and Nauru are seated in UN.

        It’s certainly not hate like the way I hate the Giants.

        • ozzman99 Nov 30,2012 6:31 pm || Up

          I used to hate the Raiders, but I’ve mellowed in my old age. I just meant that Bed would have something to say about that graphic. I can fully understand his frustration. Weren’t we there just 2 years ago? I mean, at least the 49ers have drafted pretty well, but their coaching ineptitude was infuriating.

          • MikeV Nov 30,2012 6:43 pm || Up

            Overall I think they’ve been an OK drafting team, but 2010/2011 have been FKing legendary

            2010: Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati, Navorro Bowman, Anthony Dixon, Kyle Williams
            2011: Aldon Smith, Colin Kaepernick, Chris Culliver, Kendall Hunter, Daniel Kilgore, Bruce Miller

            I mean, even if you take out Dixon who is a 3rd back and Kilgore who is the heir apparent at C, that’s NINE starting caliber players in 2 drafts.

            Baalke and Harbaugh can basically do no wrong right now.

            And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here -slusser.

            Thanks, and go As.

            • ozzman99 Nov 30,2012 6:55 pm || Up

              Even in previous years: Crabtree, Willis, Gore. They didn’t draft as well as 2010-11, but they definitely found good players. They just didn’t know how to turn that into wins.

              • MikeV Nov 30,2012 7:08 pm || Up

                Well yeah, but really you have to expect 1st round picks to be good. It’s building depth through the later rounds where teams really shine. I mean, the year they got Crabtree they also picked Glen Coffee, Scott McKillop, and Nate Davis. Oops.

              I hate the Raiders when they suck and like them when they’re good. Not necessarily in a fair weather sense, I certainly would never call myself a fan anymore than I’d call myself a 49er fan (who I’m admittedly much more of a fair weather fan of). But as I see it, if they’re going to tear the shit out of the Coli, they fking better play well. When they don’t, I resent the fk out of them. When they do well, I find the loss of the Coli beauty acceptable, but I cheer them so that it goes out for a good cause.

        Wasn’t he a very highly regarded prospect a couple/few years ago?

      Geovany Soto was non tendered (projected arbitration salary 4+ million). 2 years removed from a .900 OPS season, at the least he’d be a good platoon guy with Kottaras, he could be cheap, he’s strong defensively, and he has some serious upside.

        I was quite shocked at how craptastic his 2012 season was.

          Yeah, it was really bad. But I don’t think he’s at the age yet where you can’t expect some rebound going forward and he did put up a BABIP ~70 points below his career average, fwiw.

      I wanna see the director’s cut where the hermaphrodite gets a song and dance number and doesn’t die.

    I really hope the A’s re-sign McCarthy, I am eating his beef.
