The A’s are looking like a pretty good bet to make the playoffs, the Giants are already in. The 49ers laid the smackdown on the Jets and the Raiders…well, the Raiders have really cool uniforms.
Lounge away if you like…

I couldn’t even get mad at the Raiders today…I just found the whole thing depressing.
I sure hope the next time Mark Davis makes a big hire he interviews more than one person for the job.
The Raiders rank 31st in rushing while having a running back as talented as Darren McFadden.
I had to edit that first sentence for you. Sorry.
Thanks, and go As.
Yeah, I fixed it right back.
Looks like we’ve got ourselves a good ole’ fashioned fixed-off.
YeeHaw!
I made the tagline!….Bridget the Midget is going to be so proud. This makes my day a little bit better.
Texas with a 4 run lead in the second game…so if they win they’ll be 2 up with 3 games to go in Oakland….Get those brooms ready!
The last game is a day game…that sucks, I won’t be able to watch it.
I guess I’ll be stuck with the Rangers tv guys for games 1 & 2…they’re a bit on the dull side.
If we’re the wildcard do we want the O’s or the Evils?
Games 1 and 3 I give the A’s the starting pitching edge. Game 2 with Blackley has me worried.
turns out alice donut is horrible. un-own! un-own!
there’s the strangest of meeting points at the corner of breakdancing beats and early industrial.
more bands with pink in their name are awesome than bands with any other single color in their names, it would appear.

i was thinking of pink military when i wrote that and pink section too! and soft pink truth and pink floyd (till about half way through).

Nice!
Yeah, nobody posted a video (too obvious I guess), but even if there were no other pink bands, just Pink Floyd alone would make it a strong contender.
Now, depending on whether you count it as a color, black could be very tough to beat.
everybody wants to be mr black. / why do i gotta be mr pink?
i like that one too. i think i’ve had the album at some point.
i like that one.
They (he?) have like half of a really good album, but the second half is pretty weak.
Heck, I even like Pink herself.
Agreed.
Also, I personally have a strong dislike for the sone “Pink Cashmere” by Prince, but is a good song (personal dramam is bad..mmmmk)
I didn’t get to watch but I guess the Americans had quite the choke job today at the Ryder Cup.
Tiger didn’t win a match and missed a three footer to lose today.
Tiger has been a mediocre to poor Ryder Cup player. Maybe this makes me a bad American but the European team has guys who are more fun too root for…how can you not like Rory McIlroy?
The Raiders DO have cool uniforms. That’s right! At least we don’t suck at that!
WooHoo!…we have to hold on to anything we’ve got these days.
And the coolest music in sports.
Your Arkansas Weather Update…Not all that muggy.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say the Raiders aren’t going to lose next week.
True or false: the A’s win at least 90 games again next year.
T
don’t care yet
Thanks, and go As.
this
I have no idea…I’m just going to enjoy the rest of this season.
No major free agents + full season of Brett Anderson + lots and lots of games against Houston = TRUE
Sounds good to me.
I like your reasoning.
What is something we’ve never seen before, Alex?
Thanks, and go As.
Heh…yeah, it would be nice if it happened but I’m not holding my breath on it.
He’ll pitch the games McCarthy misses.
McCarthy seems like a great guy but I doubt I’d bring him back unless he was really cheap.
1.8 WAR in 111 innings, and he made 4.275M according to Cots.
Assuming he doesn’t get bonked in the head again and miss time, and he recovers completely, there’s no real reason he shouldn’t be a 2-3 WAR pitcher again next year.
Also, he’s only 28. I’d give him a 3 year deal for 15M and not even blink an eye.
Thanks, and go As.
Yeah, I agree. Odds are that he’s good for 150+ innings, and they’ll be VERY good innings. Five mil/yr would be a steal. Plus, you won’t find a cheaper decent option in the free agent market, and there just isn’t enough healthy talent in the system to replace him.
I’m getting to the point where I wouldn’t spend money on any pitchers. I’d just recycle through them and spend money on every day players.
I really don’t wanna run out five sophomores next year.
Thanks, and go As.
I have faith in Beane to find pitching…of course I’ll concede upfront that you know more about this current group of A’s than I do.
Mostly I just think it would be a mistake to think that this group will all be just as good next year.
Thanks, and go As.
That’s my feeling. I also don’t want to assume that they’ll all stay healthy.
I would think some will be worse and others better…it’s so hard to predict pitchers. I’m curious to see how much money Beane has to spend as I basically want an entire new infield.
Entire infield? Nah.
I bet Drew comes back. Second base is up in the air. Carter/Moss is perfectly fine at first, and Donaldson has earned the 3B job.
Thanks, and go As.
I’m not in on any of them but I’d most likely give Weeks another chance.
I have my doubts that the Drew option will get picked up by both sides, but a 2-year extension at around $15 million makes a lot of sense.
2nd has sizemore weeks and pennington, itll be fine
I hate Pennington…a lot.
I remain unconvinced that Weeks will ever be better than he was as a rookie.
I did forget about Sizemore though, he could be an option at 2B assuming the bionic knee and missing an entire season doesn’t have an effect on him.
Thanks, and go As.
Ellie had a 4.5 WAR season after he missed a year, I think we can pencil Sizemore in for 4-5 WAR.
I can’t argue with that logic.
Thanks, and go As.
Due to my PhD in Baseball Logicology
Especially after having worked them so hard during the playoff chase. That’ll catch up to them.
what is up with peacock?
Well, NBC has sucked for years really.
Major regression by lots of players suggests that we would need some help.
I know that the regression will be true, and that I am a victim of the fan problem (thinking everyone who did good will continue and those who did bad will improve). But when we talk about that I keep thinking could the middle infield be WORSE than it was for most of the year? What about catcher? I would expect some of the pitchers to fall off a bit, but I also think that is the one area we can get some help in either from the farm or in picking people up. And I dont think it is unreasonable to get a similar performance from Reddick and Cespedes. Coco and 1B I would expect to see some regression on, but we also had a huge hole of suck at 1B for the first couple of months.
The earlier point is still the best. These will be great conversations in Dec and Jan, for now lets win ourselves another 14-15 games.
I think it is a good idea to be concerned that 2013 Reddick might be more like second-half-2012 Reddick than first-half-2012 Reddick.
This.
When I was writing that comment, I thought to myself “You know who is going to agree with this? DFA.”
Off season trade for younger prospects!!!
It’s well established that Beane and ownership are unwilling to endure a 100-loss season, which is the only way they’ll ever amass enough talent to win 90+ games.
I would do it.
This.
I think it’s certainly reasonable, but it’s also just as possible that, with the offseson and Spring Training to work on things, the coaching staff may help him make some adjustments to get around his current ragey-pressing situation. I think he’s certainly worth making a gamble on keeping.
Oh yeah, keep him for sure. He’s still pre-arb, so he’s pretty useful even when he sucks. I’m just saying that it would be foolish to assume that his production next year will match this year (when he has been the best player on the team).
Oh yeah, definitely – I think it’s incredibly hard to pin the production for most of these guys for next year (except Cespedes, I firmly believe he’s only gonna trend upwards). I do believe in Reddick, though, even if he won’t be as epic as the first half, I do think maybe he’ll be a little more consistant and fall somwhere in between first half and second half Josh. Which is someone I still HELLA want in RF.
2nd half BABIP: .246
Thanks, and go As.
Which is likely to regress except for the whole he looks like shit on top of it. I haven’t see alot of hard hit balls getting caught by him.
His defense might also be a mirage (things I learned from Ryan Sweeney)
His arm is hella not a mirage.
Thanks, and go As.
Not sure I get the Sweeney comparison. That was an injury thing.
It was but I think its also that year to year variablity in terms of defensive value is significant at the high end of the spectrum.
Did you know that the A’s 3bman this year have provided 3 WAR of production?
Do you think that happens again?
Did you know that A’s 1bman have contributed 3.5 WAR this year?
Do you think that happens again?
Do you think Johnny Gomes give you 2 WAR in 90 games again next year?
Maybe, Yes, No.
If Donaldson is for real, that’s not unpossible. From Inge/Sizemore, though, I doubt it.
Moss I don’t believe in long term, but Carter maybe and Barton maybe.
Agree on Gomes.
I believe in Boss more than Barton long term for sure. Barton is useless and should be traded. Carter might not be real either.
Donaldson I think is real but expecting 3 WAR is probably a stretch.
Im not even talking about the pitching yet
I believe in Carter more than any of the rest of them
Thanks, and go As.
Carter’s Power and short swing are 100% real. Whether he’s Dunn, Matt Stairs, or early-Giambi is tbd. That said, he’s probably a DH.
Pitching is a whole different can of worms, since it’s really hard to project rookies with a great first season, and also impossible to project Anderson/McCarthy/Braden, and also impossible to know what Colon’s deal is.
And that help comes in the form of the Astros! Have you seen how bad they are? Every team in the division should get a five win boost just from having them around.
THIS.
I’m loving this season, but to be honest, I’m not ready to assume that everyone is as good as they’ve played this year. Mainly the pitchers.
I will gladly right now predict that the A’s win at least 80 games next year.
Other than with that, I’m with Fosse and Mike. Now is what matters.
Next year it might rain.
Ask me during the parade, if I am still sober-heck ask me at the parade sober or not..
I’m going to go out on another limb and say the Raiders are going to lose in two weeks.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say they’ll lose next week too, on their way to an 0-17 season.
So is everybody ready for that Bengals vs Cardinals Super Bowl?
You mean Chargers vs. Vikings, don’t you?
Also a possibility.
True or false: humans won’t do anything about global warming and will destroy the earth by mid-century.
I’m not too worried about it.
the only principle of global warming that we can object to is that humans are doing something about it.
While there may be some doubt about how much effect humans are having, I don’t think there’s any realistic, scientific reason to doubt that humans are contributing to some degree.
Destroy the earth is a pretty strong statement. It will still be here, just… different.
Ok, how about “make significant portions virtually inhospitable to human life”?
We can live anywhere, so long as we can burn lots of oil to generate electricity and run our A/C!
But can we grow crops?
Indoor hydroponics, solar panels, 2 liter bottles full of bleach water as skylights…
Nah. Let’s just shoot other rednecks and eat them.
Just the same as humans will still be here, just different.
I don’t think anyone here can fully imagine what we’ll be when we’re integrated with nanomachines and constantly connected to the internet with 8G hardwired into our brains.
It’ll make keeping track of my fantasy team a lot easier.
It’ll make death as performance art possible, whether through highly accelerated healing/repair, or through fully tactile virtual reality.
Death is irrelevant.
So are the Raiders.
I’m sorry your team sucks, Bed. I feel your pain.
I’m glad the A’s are playing such good ball. The Raiders are a mess and it’s likely going to be a very long season.
It’s not too late to turn things around. When the Chargers are in 1st place, you know you still have a chance.
This is true but I just don’t see it. The team has maybe 3 good players on defense and our genius OC has decided to throw it every fucking down…6-10 sounds about right.
I really haven’t followed them. But if you have McFadden, it seems pretty stupid not to use him.
As I posted earlier…they’re 31st in rushing…after being one of the better running teams the last few years…Greg Knapp is dumber than hell and he’s on his way to being fired for the 4th time as an OC.
It amazes me how often coaches try to adapt their players to the system, rather than vice versa. Why not play to your strengths?
Nobody cares about your fantasy teams.
Once our brains are all hardwired to the interwebz, EVERYONE will care about my fantasy teams.
Did you get to watch you 49ers play today, Oz?
Yes, and it was a lot of fun. The guy sitting next to me at the bar was watching golf, so I pretended he was you.
It was the kind of game only a 49er fan would enjoy. Just purely as a football game it was blowout city…the 49ers won the game in every way. I hope that guy was at least wearing a polo shirt if he was standing in for me.
Yes, and shorts. And he ate a chicken gyro and a side salad, while I had my chili-cheese-bacon-onion-jalapeno hot dogs (yes, plural). And flirted with the hot 24 year old barmaid.
Yep, that sounds a lot like me.
I was amazed it was only 10-0 at halftime, and Akers missed two FGs so it could have been 40-0
Thanks, and go As.
47 – 0 if they wanted to rub it in.
And Kaep slid, or it could’ve been 47-0. I liked seeing him get a few snaps, and even throw a pass. If he’d led Moss a little more, that would’ve been another TD.
True or false: the Patriots are back to being the Patriots.
False…the Bills just really, really suck.
But they were leading by what, 2 TD’s at 1 point? And then the Pats just went off.
The Bills defense is not good…not good at all. We watched most of that game on the big TV.
I only glanced at it from time to time. All I care about is how CJ Spiller does.
The Patriots can sit and spin.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Don’t let Witchy hear you say that.
she WILL come back in a couple of days and she CAN read the old threads, you know…
Not to worry…they delete lounge threads especially the ones I post…it’s the right thing to do and the tasty way to do it.
True or false: GM will some day be both the biggest and best automaker in the world.
I drive Fords.
No one cares about your Ford.
Well, we have two of them so that means there’s twice as much not to care about.
Fords that wind up dead in a ditch don’t count. Which means all Fords, eventually.
pfft…I love my Mustang…my third favorite car I’ve had ever and the Explorer has been great for us.
I know, I’m just kidding. I grew up the son of a Chevy man.
My GMC Sierra was a thing of beauty…I like Chevy too but lately I’ve ended up with Fords.
Funny, because I want a truck and I thought I wanted a Sierra. But after riding in a friend’s F-150, I think I like the Ford better.
If I ever bought another truck it would be a Sierra…I loved that truck so much and the bastard who stole it can rot in hell or even worse become a Raiders fan.
Ok, well get me one too.
It was the first car I bought new so it was special to me and it was pure awesome on a stick…big, black and cool…loved that truck.
Your truck was Samuel L. Jackson?
Yes, yes it was…it often told me it wanted that motherfucking white boy out of this motherfucking truck.
How many snakes did you have on board?
Just the one…it’s five inches but it’s thick.
TMI.
Fun fact: A parked Ford Explorer can be totaled by a Subaru Impreza WRX if it’s hit hard enough.
I want a WRX.
Then, by all means, get one. Just don’t hit a Ford Explorer with it. The totalage will be mutual.
How’d the WRX do in the wreck? And which vehicle was yours?
WRX was my son’s car — it and his hip were both totaled. (Well, he’s a lot better now. But the car is scrap.)
Dare I ask… was he racing?
No, just driving too fast and over-swerving to get out of the way of an SUV that took a corner too wide coming toward him. I think he made the right choice, considering how much more badly he would have lost the fight with the SUV that was barreling toward him (vs. the one he actually hit that was parked).
I gotta be honest, I never would’ve believed you were old enough to have a child that drives. Anyway, I’m glad he’s doing better.
I’m not quite sure how to take that… LOL
Take it as a compliment.
That works. Thanks!
I’m almost done with mine. When are you moving out here?
Thanks, and go As.
Not till after the New Year.
I will probably still have it then.
Thanks, and go As.
If I have a job, I’ll give you a call.
False. Unless “some day” includes the 1960’s.
I don’t know, I could see it happening. Toyota has run into QC problems, and VW is VW. Sooner or later, peopel remember that German cars aren’t that reliable, and cost a small fortune to repair. GM cars are a far cry from what they were even 5 years ago. Hyundai is doing impressive things too, and I could see them also growing into a major power player.
Too much Asian talent…they’d have to catch Honda, Hyundai and Mazda at least.
I’ve driven Asian before…never a car though.
I believe GM is already bigger than any of those 3, even after the bankruptcy.
Oh yeah, I know. It’s the being the best part I don’t see happening.
Oh. Fair enough.
True or false: Mitt Romney’s biggest problem is just bad PR people.
False…he’s like that line about Oakland…there’s no there, there.
I agree. If anything, I’m surprised it took this long for his ignorance and general douchiness to come to light.
We’ll see how the debates go and if they even matter. My guess is that it’s 75/25 that Obama wins.
I think Intrade has Obama’s chances around 78% right now. And if the election were today and everyone voted the way they poll, Obama would take over 390 EV.
390 in the Electoral College?…that sounds high.
He has small leads in lots of states. Even the swing states, except 1 (MO, I think). Hell, Obama is even leading in WI and MI.
I’d be surprised if he lost WI or MI…I can’t see him winning MO, at least not right now.
If he takes a legitimate lead there, the electorate has a way of shutting that whole thing down.
If he wins Missouri it’s going to be a landslide election which is possible.
I actually think it will be a landslide, in both the popular and elcectoral votes.
I think it will be a little bit closer than 2008.
I think Romney is in a serious tailspin, and I think the debates will make it worse.
I fking hope so.
I do too, but I already believe it will happen.
I think the debates will be closer to a draw for the most part. Romney isn’t bad in that format and I’ve never thought Obama was great at it.
But this time, I think Romney is going to have to own up to all his flip-flopping.
I doubt it…they never get asked really tough questions and the moderators this time around are beyond awful.
Oh, I didn’t see who the moderators were.
You don’t need approved ID to poll.
Well yeah, that’s an issue.
And, of course, if I were a republican I wouldn’t be betting and voting the same way.
Mitt Romney’s biggest problem is Mitt Romney.
True or false: Bed is bringing dead sexy back.
If it’s up to me then sexy is dead in the water.
Whatever. Miss Hawaii would argue vehemently with you on that.
How is the family, btw? Baby Bed growing like a weed?
Really life couldn’t be any better. Lisa starts back to college in January at the University of Arkansas…Sara is the coolest baby ever…yes, I know all parents think this about their kids and I guess I’m no different. I’m a very happy man as long as I’m not watching football.
Just livin’ the dream, huh? That is awesome. I’m gonna live vicariously through you for awhile. Unless that hot 24 year old barmaid flirts with me some more. She actually did today, even more than with SCBed. And I’m sure it wasn’t just to get a bigger tip.
Yeah, you’re going to have to bring back all your skills in that area…I was rusty after breaking up with my last GF. I got Lisa to notice me by making her laugh and the rest is history.
I hope it all works out for you like it did for me and life gets better after the rough patch.
I can’t bring back something I don’t have. I’m terrible at flirting. The only reason I got Ozzwife is because we were friends first, so we skipped over all that.
I don’t do the friend thing…if I’m into a woman I go for it straight away but I have no fear of rejection and I like to flirt.
I just don’t know what to say. I’m a bit socially stunted. Shocking, I know.
I’ve told this story many times but as a child actor I got rejected so many times it just stopped bothering me so when a woman doesn’t go for what I’m selling I just move and don’t worry about it.
You were an actor? Were you MIkey in the Life cereal commercials?
No, I was bigger than that I did local TV and radio commercials in the bright lights of Sacramento.
Ok, now I picture you looking like a white Webster, in a polo shirt and driving a GMC Sierra.
Hmm…more like Ricky Schroder infact we could be brothers.
“Could be” as in you look alike? Or “could be” as in there’s a biological possibility that you share 1 or more parents?
I look a lot like him just with less hair. Same nose and the same coloring and build and eyes…it’s kind of uncanny really.
I shall now commence to call you BRicky.
I wish I still had my videotape collection of old local TV commercials. I totally would have found something with you in it by now.
My mom has all that stuff…I’m going out to see her in May…I’ll see what she has…I did a lot more radio than TV but I did 5 TV ads total I think….one was for a furniture store but I’ll be damned if I can remember the name of the store…sometime in 1986 or so.
Yeah, we tried to brainstorm it a couple years ago and we didn’t figure it out.
i want bed to be billy.
This story rings true for me, but replace “child actor” with whatver the FK I am and “Woman” with whatever the FK I FK.
Hi Kay…how are things?
I was playing poker in throbbing pain from fragmented remnants of wisdom tooth working their way out from under the still-healing gums. Then I took a vicodin and an ibuprofen and a beer and some indica, and lots of people showed up, so they’re playing on the back porch and I’m in here in la la land.
Are they real people? Could the rest of us see them?
This time, yes. I have a regular crew of poker buddies. There are nine of them on the back porch playing cash Hold’Em & Omaha. I’m too messed up on small amounts of multiple substances to risk my money playing with them, and there are nine people at the table, so I don’t want to cram in to socialize. Besides, the talk is boring me tonight.
If it was a tourney, I’d throw in my ten bucks and play silly and see if I get lucky.
I can’t risk a hundred tho when my head’s not on right.
I could play totally sober and still lose my shirt. I am not good at this game.
Ouch…well, enjoy la la land.
This. Also you cant really be friends unless you get the sex part out of the way.
We have 3 tv’s going at our football party and for some reason I ended up watching a lot of the Rams vs Seahawks game…I was unimpressed with Russell Wilson…he’ll be selling insurance in 3 years is my guess.
Russell Wilson is a terrible football name.
It’s two athletic equipment companies…his running back is Nike Adidas
I’m hoping the A’s draft Mizuno Rawlings next year.
That guy is all glove I hear.
And his skin is kinda leathery.
Now HERE’s some TMI.
Asses that get beat a lot, especially with canes and harder toys, tend to get leathery after going through the process of injury/healing/injury/healing so many times.
It’s almost like the human body wasn’t built for that sort of thing.
Almost.
Whichever team loses the Raiders vs Chiefs game should be shot.
Whichever teams show up to play the Raiders Vs Chiefs game should be shot. Hopefully it will be the Redskins and the Saskatchewan RoughRiders.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
What? Did Dr. Hottie quit?
Rangers won. Worse.
FK. Just have to sweep them, I guess.
Okay, I’ll put my shirt back on.
Rangers win the second game in the double header. A’s magic number down to 1. Division still within reach.
Angels: FKed.
Can we still win a WC spot?
Of course! All we need is one more win, or one loss each by the Angels and Rays. Absolute worst case we’re playing one of them on Thursday in Oakland to decide who gets it.
What about the Yankees and Baltimore shit? I thought they were both ahead of us in the WC standings?
One of them will win the AL East.
One of them will win the East, so really only the one that doesn’t is ahead of us in the WC standings. And since there are two wild cards this year, we are in a very good spot.
OHHH. I get it. Thanks, wonderful people.
One of them wins that division.
My fantasy football team is getting it’s ass kicked today. First loss of the year. Still in 1st place, though.
(pulls up chair)…please, tell me more.
I sense a little sarcasm. Whatever. YonYonson is the one beating me. FKing Roddy White and the 49ers defense pretty much did me in.
JFC I miss watching football. Do you know how long it has been since I watched a Sunday game? FUCKING YEARS. YEARS. I’ve ALWAYS worked weekends, even back when I was a waitress.
Last year was the first time in about 12 years that I was off most Sundays. And then again this year.
I haven’t missed a Raiders game since………..hmm……I don’t really remember the last Raiders game I missed.
I missed pretty much every 49er during that period, unless they played on a Thursday or Monday night.
I’d go fucking crazy if I couldn’t watch my boys…the Raiders are my addiction.
It was easier when I reminded myself that I liked having a roof over my head and food in my belly.
Are you a Chiefs fan?
I had that figure back in the 80’s…I think one of my GI Joe figures killed him in the backyard during one of their many wars.
I smell nerd.
Well, I was 9…I guess I could have been crusing for chicks instead.
Now you’re thinking.
Not really. I just like football. I will watch any game on tv.
How about the Lingerie League?
Please. Why watch those hussies when I’m a 10 anyway?
Well, true. I’d tackle you.
Pack a lunch.
How about one of Bed’s dad’s sandwiches?
That sounds dirrrty.
Get your mind out of the gutter. It’s getting in my way.
Can I be a replacement ref?
Are you unqualified?
I don’t know.
Sure, but every time you get a call wrong, Jennifer gets to came your bare ass.
A-FKing-men!
I’ll watch any NFL game…I just love the game.
Just saw your Rand Camp tagline up top, made me laugh, again.
Heh…I’m glad you liked it.
Definitely one of the brightest one-liner moments in the history of **/FK
I had fun in the last lounge….sometimes the ones where I’m basically alone can be a fun place to just go random and odd.
If the A’s win tomorrow, thus clinching a wild card spot, the players will:
a) high five perhaps a little more vigorously than usual, but keep it all business with the division still in reach
or
b) pie and gatorade the ever living shit out of each other
Little of both, I think. They’ll go nuts for a minute or two and then get back to business.
Thanks, and go As.
And then Chavvy will say that they were out of line.
OF orgy.
That’s your fantasy team, I take it?
Orgies in the Outfield, the little-know porn sequel.
Underrated, really.
Caption contest?
Let’s get it on…
“Dude, I just wanna be friends.”
NO MEANS NO, ALRIGHT
Thanks, and go As.
A high five woulda sufficed.
FACIALS!
Calm down, it was just a birthday card.
Open Face Cuban Sandwich
They might clap once and piss off Eric Chavez.
I don’t miss him at all…I miss Hudson and I had a soft spot for Miggy but Chavez never did much for me despite how good he was earlier in his career.
I liked Chavez a lot, but Hudson was one of my all-time favorites.
Hudson was my favorite of the Big 3. Of the Moneyball teams he and Miggy were my favs followed by Mulder and Giambi…and no, not Jeremy.
Mulder was my favorite. I love 2 hour baseball games.
I liked Huddy’s 85 pitch complete games.
Thanks, and go As.
Heh, I’m the opposite of that. I defended Chavez like crazy on ** especially when the Miggy/Chavy thing kept coming up over and over again, and I ended up writing the front paged “End of an Era” post when his option was officially declined and he was no longer an Athletic.
Thanks, and go As.
I know Chavy was popular and he was a hell of a player…I don’t know why I was never into him but that’s sports sometimes you just don’t like a guy even if he’s good.
I think that’s kinda why I didn’t like Miggy. He wasn’t better, he was older, and he would have cost way more money — but he was more popular.
Thanks, and go As.
I just loved watching him play.
Well, yeah – he was fun and exciting and stuff.
I don’t think a lot of people realize what we were watching while (alliteration!) Chavez was banging out gold gloves year in and year out. I know the last one, maybe two were reputation awards, but for a few years he was really one of the best defensive 3B of this generation.
Thanks, and go As.
I don’t doubt it…I’ll admit that I only notice defense when it’s bad so I tend to look at other things.
The thing that cracked me up the most about the Moneyball movie is that neither of them was really mentioned or the Big 3 pitchers. Having those two on one side of the infield was great for the team.
Well he never was an All Star, how could he have been that good?
True.
Thanks, and go As.
I’m having one of my dad’s superduper unhealthy versions of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Three pieces of white bread, it must be white, butter, peanut butter and strawberry jam on each piece of bread…I eat about 1-2 of these a year…more than five of them and you’d most likely die.
I’m making that tomorrow.
Oddly enough I tend to only eat them during football season.
Comfort food. I get it.
When we were poor, we used to eat peanut butter and syrup. You mix it together and dip bread into it.
Hell, that sounds pretty good.
Ozzwife’s grandma used to make cornbread smothered in cane syrup for dessert, and her mom put sweetened condensed milk over white bread for dessert.
This also sounds good. Often the best food is the least fancy.
I’ll eat pretty much anything with sweetened condensed milk on it.
I don’t have that often but I don’t eat a lot of sweets…my main treats are savory foods or meat.
I indulge way too often. Even more lately, as I’m a stress-eater.
Right now you should just eat whatever the hell you want.
Heh. Heh. I could name a few suggestions.
please list in numerical order according to importance.
Thanks, and go As.
My importance? His? Yours?
Okay.
Thanks, and go As.
I kinda am. And the scale is groaning in pain.
Thats me. I always find a reason. Stressed, eat. Sad,eat. Alone, eat. With friends, eat AND drink.
When I’m stressed I have to move…that’s when I go on long runs or go hit golf balls for hours at a time.
Maybe I should jump on my bike.
That’s not as bad as eating twelve eggs and washing it down with a quart of Pine-Sol.
I think they did that in the Cool Hand Luke sequel.
Just an FYI: My dad is the best. He gave me lunch money today. !!
Awww! I just gave my daughter lunch money 10 minutes ago!
I had to ask my family some questions related to homework. I texted them “thank you” after the emailed me the questionnaire back. My dad replied: “Anything for medical science.”
Dang, she eats lunch late.
Can I have $5?
Whatcha gonna do for it?
Whatcha want me to do?
$5 and I’ll tell you.
Why do I get the feeling I’m getting scammed?
Don’t you trust me?
[bats eyelashes]
*looks at eyelashes*
*looks lower*
5 bucks, you say?
Thanks, and go As.
Should I?
I’m sketchy.
Wait, is this fiverr.com?
I’m not googling that.
http://www.fiverr.com
Generally safe, & pretty fking funny when you’re bored.
Considering the shit you’ve made me google, I don’t think you have much to lose.
I watched 15 minutes of Revolution on my DVR this morning…that’s 15 minutes I can never get back.
When I was 10 the Raiders weren’t just the best team in football they were the biggest collection of badass sons of bitches on the planet…now, not so much.
They were FK?
It’s too bad we never got a Raiders vs 49ers Super Bowl in 84 or 85…that would have been a fucking great game.
Yeah. that would’ve been a lot of fun.
The 49ers would have been the favorites but those Raiders teams tended to win their Super Bowls big.
Never count out a team with Marcus Allen.
He was great as was Howie, Todd, Lester, Michael, Matt, Lyle, Cliff, Jim and one of the coolest coaches ever in Tom.
Howie Mandel, Todd Rundgren, Lester Holt, Michael Jackson, Matt Holliday, Lyle Lovett, Cliff Huxtable, Jim Carrey, and Tom Hanks were all with the Raiders in the mid-80’s? Wow, I don’t remember that at all.
Matt Houston. It was like a battle of the network stars…
Complete with “Houston, we have a problem” jokes?
Montana.
Thanks, and go As.
Best quarterback I ever saw.
I was so spoiled when I was a kid and getting into sports…
Every year it seemed like the Niners either went 14-2 or 12-4, except for that one season they went 10-6 and missed the playoffs in 1991. The Raiders were in LA so SF was the only game in town, and I got to watch the best coach ever, the best QB ever, one of the best safeties ever, the best WR and maybe overall player ever, and another HOF quarterback following up Montana. I mean how could I not have been a Niner fan.
The A’s went to the World Series 3 times in a row and had the ROY like every season, Stewart Welch and Mike Moore took turns being awesome every year, etc.
The mid 80s to the mid 90s were just awesome to grow up in as a sports fan in the bay area.
Thanks, and go As.
No doubt about it…the 80’s were great if you were a fan of the 49ers, Raiders or A’s….well maybe not the mid 80’s for the A’s but the beginning and end of the decade was pretty sweet.
Those 49ers teams were so loaded and oddly many of them ended up on the Raiders eventually…Lott, Rice, Craig, Rathman…I loved Ronnie Lott, he was great.
Dude cut off part of his finger because that recovery took less time than having surgery to repair the break. NUFF SAID.
Also I refuse to acknowledge Rice ever being a Raider. Or a Seahawk. Sorry.
Thanks, and go As.
Rice is the greatest WR of all time but I was a huge Tim Brown fan, probably the last player I really loved since he came in when I was still fairly young, so it took me time to warm up to Rice. Lott fit right in. Craig and Rathman were just kind of there.
Rathman was badass. He busted guys up and caught passes and ran the ball.
Bingo.
Also, Run TMC.
meh. Everybody loved Michael Jordan.
Thanks, and go As.
Run TMC was the last time the Warriors were interesting.
You must have missed that glorious month in 2007.
I gave up on the NBA 15 years ago.
I have to admit when I saw Dennis Allen laughing and hugging John Fox after the Raiders lost today I had thoughts of homicide…is this rational?…no, but then I am a Raiders fan so I don’t have to be rational.
Oh man, icing the kicker may work horribly, horribly wrong for philly right now
Thanks, and go As.
One of the dumbest move in football. You’ll seldom, if ever, know if it worked or not.
Checking my DVR I see that Dexter is back…I sure hope this season is better than last years.
Never watched it.
Should I?
Thanks, and go As.
The first couple of seasons are amazing but it then started to drop off but it’s still a fun, violent and often very entertaining show.
it’s pretty fun.
Seasons 1-4. Don’t bother after.
Big win for the Eagles…I still don’t like their team though. I’m not an Andy Reid fan at all.
The Seahawks have always had ugly uniforms but each new version seems to be getting worse and worse….those all blue Rams uniforms don’t do much for me either.
And they can’t blame Earl Weaver. Orioles team plane makes emergency landing with “small fire” on board.
OPEN THE WINDOWS!!!
You know 2012 has been a very eventful year for us as A’s fans and A’s bloggers…we’ve been on three different sites, had some crazy wars and seen our A’s win some crazy games. I haven’t enjoyed all of it but I’m glad to have gone through it with you fine folks.
In about a week I’m going to roll out the new FK redesign, it looks quite a bit like SBN does.
Thanks, and go As.
Cool…I think that means I should get banned within a week but it’ll look great as I do it.
Right back at you oh lounge king. Seriously you guys have made this into probably my favorite team/year ever.
I love FK…and I can’t wait to watch the Rangers games. It’s gonna be fun.
Hey, what about me???
and you are?
I ask myself the same question every day.
Closing in on the one minute hair cut mark.
I still haven’t checked out the new AN look…I guess I should at some point.
You shouldnt.
Okay, I won’t…as I’ve said I’m over AN…I miss some of the people but not the site itself.
It’s… ugly.
You could try some other SBN site instead…experience all the ugly without the painful reminiscence.
I could go on Silver and Black Pride and call Sons of Blanda a dick…I haven’t done that in years so that might be fun.
Sounds like advice to a friend who makes bad romantic decisions
I watched Vegas this morning before I tried Revolution….Vegas is okay if a bit predictable…the leads are good but I doubt I’ll watch it regularly.
Wasn’t there already a show called Vegas?
Yes, I think so with Robert Ulrich a long time ago.
Was that the one on NBC a few years ago too?
I want to say that was called Las Vegas but I could be wrong….of course that’s basically the same title anyway.
I think I watched it once or twice…the main thing I remember was Nikki Cox’s cleavage.
I’ll have to go back and watch it.
Off to bed I must go. Have a good night, everyone! FK the Rangers!
Sleep well, Oz….BALD MEN RULE!
The other day, I was playing with my god daughter. She’s 2 1/2, and I spend a fairly good deal of time with her. Anyway, she suddenly looked up at me, stopped everything, and asked, with a very puzzled look on her face, “Where’s your hair?”
Hahaha! Adorable!
You ever have one of those moments when you think you’re going to drink something you like and then BAM! you end up with Mountain Dew in your cup?
#crabjuice
Bridget the Midget just told me I’m spending too much time on the Phil Collins erotica site so it’s either her or Phil…I’m gonna miss that little chick.
Good man. She was four-timing you anyway.
She fooled around on me but I didn’t mind…that little gal could rock my world.
I’ve gotten roped into helping on some political stuff this month…I hate myself for it…I have no idea how I’m going to watch the A’s in the playoffs but I’ll get it done. You never know when your team is going to be back in the playoffs so I’ll be watching the games no matter what.
Just tell Roseanne Barr no and get back in front of your TV set.
I think the two things I’ll be working on have about as good as chance as she’d have…I’m too much of a pushover for my friends sometimes but I value my friends so much that I almost never say no.
Do you want the truth? I think I’m entitled. You can’t handle the truth. Well, okay then you may step down.
Why is beef jerky so expensive???
Thanks, and go As.
I’ve often wondered this myself…it’s the cheapest cuts of beef so it shouldn’t be so expensive.
but it’s SO GOOD.
Thanks, and go As.
My dad makes his own deer jerky. It’s AMAZING.
Is your father Ted Nugent?
Her father hunted Ted Nugent for sport once.
I wish someone would.
Ted is one of his favorite TV shows.
AND the jerky is FKING amazing. But you will never know now.
Damn. Boobs?
What are “things Jennifer has that Ozz will never touch,” Alex?
Ooh, kinky.
Mine.
How will you stop me from touching them? Are you gonna tie me up?
Taser.
I like the way you think!
So we saw The Master on Saturday night…my review is….amazing, but…I think I need to see it again to make a real judgement. Hoffman and Phoenix are great and the movie is gorgeous to look at but I’m not totally sure what I saw.
Did you see it somewhere that they can project in 70mm? I did, but I’m not sure it made much of a difference. The recurring shot of water behind the boat looked beautiful, though.
I’m looking forward to it, if for no other reason than to figure out what they used Hillside School for.
I hope you all enjoy the A’s games this week. I’m going on a little two to 3 week hiatus but I look forward to talking with you later this month…Best wishes and GO A’s!
Really? Aw balls, man. That’s unexpected. I thought you were with us through October.
Damn, I was looking forward to game-threading the playoffs with you.
For doctorK/mikeV
approved.
Thanks, and go As.
Its getting crazy out at the Coliseum this week…I hope to see many of you out there, these games have been insane…all of them…
Wait, there’s games this week?!?
Based on the number of tickets sold for Monday nights game, I think this is a common sentiment in the Bay Area…..But FK it, I will be there and I will enjoy myself…If people dont want to come thats there problem…
At the two games I saw at the Coliseum the crowds weren’t huge but the energy level in the stands was impressive. The Cal football game on Saturday drew almost as many as the total of the three A’s-Mariners games but the atmosphere was somnolent (except when it got angry a few times).
I suppose if you were a very casual fan and not wise to the scheduling peculiarities of MLB, it would make more sense for the regular season to end on Sunday, September 30 than on Wednesday, October 3.
Yes, I love XKCD.
Thanks, and go As.
Also, um, Llama bait.
Thanks, and go As.
Ummm…Ok Im an idiot, what is this used for?
link, another link
i say again, tactical holster.
I heard a talk from someone who works on the lunar laser ranging project. One problem that they had is that their telescope in New Mexico is near an Air Force base. So they got in touch with the Air Force guys and said “Look, a couple of nights a month, we are going to be focusing a powerful laser through a 2.5 meter telescope and shining it at the moon. We don’t want to blind any pilots, so just let us know when you are flying by and we will turn it off.” But the Air Force guys said they couldn’t tell them flight plans because it’s top secret. So instead, whenever they run the experiment, they have to put a guy up on the telescope with binoculars to look out for top secret Air Force planes.
that’s too kind. would the enemy have a guy with binoculars looking out for top secret air force jets?
i mean. you know what i mean.
tactical holster.
Anyone want one of these in an 18 months? I’ll send it for free. I’d rather know that it will go to someone who will spill juice on it proudly than languish on a goodwill shelf for a year before getting tossed.
What size? We’re expecting Thanksgiving-ish, so I have no idea whether the size will work, but if it did I would love that.
18 months. It wouldn’t work right away, but you can keep it tucked away in a drawer until the right moment. Email me at adborok(at)comcastdotnet. I’m making a trip to the PO later today so can send it. Consider it grossly insufficient payment for keeping this site held together.
Oh, got it. I read that as “in 18 months” because I’m still learning how this works.
I am too, more than 5 years later.
OK I didn’t know Carrot Top was the guy who sung the bernie lean song
Thanks, and go As.
NUH-UH!
