Looking at the forecast, there are supposed to be thunderstorms until late tonight in Arlington, and then rain until tomorrow afternoon. So my assumption is that the Angels and Rangers will be playing an old-fashioned doubleheader on Sunday.
It makes a split of the two games (at least seem) slightly more likely.

They sure are… I’d be satisfied with just turning the second game of the doubleheader on in the top of the 31st inning to see Jurickson Profar pitching to DH Jered Weaver with 85 people left in the stadium at 4:17 am Central Time. Immediately before the announcement that the Rangers’ plane will not land before 6:32 pm Oakland time on Monday and that they will be forced to dress and warm up on the team bus.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.

in my defense, I was in the same spot I was last Saturday, at crissy field playing with the kids with one earbud in. Last saturday I almost threw my phone over the gg bridge in the one thing that had the one thing after the three awesome things
Lets see…A’s win today, Angels win both games-A’s magic number is 2, Rangers lead drops to 1 game.
A’s win tomorrow, Angels lose. A’s clinch at least a WC spot and move into a tie with the rangers.

It’s weird to be rooting for the Angels today. It feels like we should be rooting for the outcome that guarantees the A’s a spot in the playoffs, but winning the division would be awesome, and it avoids the crap shoot of a 1 game series.
Angels winning out seems like long odds. they have Hernandez and Iwakuma in the seattle series, plus coming off a double header today.
wilson v Felix

ONe thing I do not like, although have not cared in prior years, is that the winner of the west will celebrate at Oaklnad. I would like it to be after either the the top of the 9th or a walk off
Yes, for the tiebreaker between the A’s and Yankees to come into effect the A’s would have to gain one game on the Yankees over the next four, and since all of both teams’ games are intradivision that would necessarily give the A’s the tiebreaker.

You guys definitely got the right East Bay game. The final score was announced to cheers from the remaining few at rapidly-emptying Memorial Stadium (and indifference from the circling seagulls who were pooping on the rotting carcass of Jeff Tedford).
Yeah, I kinda figured this was gonna happen. I also am expecting the same next week. After Nevada and the less than impressive showing against So Utah, I felt 4 was their ceiling, and right now it is seriously looking like this may be a 2 win team.
This was only the second game I’ve seen this season due to the TV problem, Ohio State being the other one. But…the micro problem is that they have a less than mediocre quarterback who does not get much protection. The macro problem was exemplified when said quarterback went off the field chasing one of his linemen and publicly berating him after one of the numerous sacks. That doesn’t happen when a coach has full control of his team and program. I hope the lame duck at least gives next year’s best QB prospect plenty of playing time the rest of the way as a favor to the incoming head coach.
At this point, I don’t even feel bad about losing, because it decreases the possibility that the problem can be ignored. The athletic department was invested too much money it doesn’t have to tolerate a lousy product that no one wants to see, led by one of the highest paid state employees.
Tedford inherited a disaster, turned it around quickly, and has run a clean program. But he hasn’t kept up with the times.
There is just so much wrong, I am not sure where to begin. I mean fundamentally, how does a supposed quarterback guru not develop or find a quality college passer over the course of the previous 8 or so years? Longshore was meh, and more a product of the talent around him; Riley actually regressed; Maynard literally does nothing well. It is just astounding. It is just ridiculous how poorly coached the offense is. When you look at how many ex-Bears are actually in the NFL, then you really have to have question how much of the success has come from coaching versus the players. I have been a pretty big defender of Tedford in the past, figuring that while mediocrity sucks, at least they were bringing in top 20 classes and reach bowls year after year. Suffice to say, they are clearly regressing, and if Klein falters, it is not going to get better any time soon.
Sorry you had to witness that, I hope the new stadium was at least enjoyable. I will be there for UW game (and Benedict Lopui), and am expecting that to my the only highlight of the evening.
I keep getting a headache trying to figure all the potential Wild Card matchups and what the A’s need to do to win each of the Wild Cards, so I’ve decided that the remedy is that they should just go on a 17-game winning streak that culminates with them sweeping the World Series whilst we all collapse with astounded approval in the stands and ESPN cuts to Derek Jeter to see what he thinks of it all.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.
I was too busy with my own jumping up to notice. But I did see someone giving him five over the railing shortly after the Donaldson one. I also noticed that his famous blue shirt has an A’s logo on it. Odd.
Few things:
1. mrs llama is totes into baseball right now!
2. “They haven’t run out miracles yet!” –> Korach is awesome.
3. Like a Moss.
4. Crisp is at 2.7 WAR, which I never would have guessed.
5. JD is having himself one hell of a injury callup.
6. We’re gonna be in Section 318 tomorrow – after today’s insane game, both papa llama and mrs llama suggested we go to the game, and who am I to say no?
\"Weren\'t you already aware the Kay is already writing everyone\'s story? We\'re all just characters who believe we are real. Things make more sense now, don\'t they. Be honest.\"- DMOAS
Edit: Crisp is up to 2.9 WAR after yesterday’s game. Josh Donaldson is hitting .298/.365/.516 since taking over for Inge. Even Stephen Drew has turned it on, with a 107 OPS+ since the trade.

That was FKing awesome, Cespedes!

Dear A’s,
This game is sucking my ass, please fix it ASAP.
Thanks,
Me.
NICE.
thievery!
He read the positioning of 2 & 9 perfectly. Masterful!
For those unable to watch:
Cespedes ran on the pitch, Moss 1B to RF, Cespedes to 3B, he hesitated, Wells hesitated, Cespedes went home, beat high throw.
The hesitation was such a Rickey/Jackie move
Big time. Pure perfect baseball instinct.
cespedes was so aware of where the ball was. almost at 3rd he turned around to look, rounded 3rd and looked again.
Yeah, he knew exactly what he was doing when Wells was slow to get the ball back in.
ha ha vince. funny that calling baseball there’s still a time you have to say guts instead of balls.
brass
Um, we can still win this game Melvin. Keep Figueroa out of this fucking game.
Yes, if he has to go to someone, it should be Scribner/Blevins. Too bad he wasted Blevins yesterday.
Reddick really needs to stop slamming his bat down like a child every time he fails to get a hit.
Agreed. It’s bad form and reinforces bad attitudes and behavior.
However, it’s a surefire sign he’s pressing, so at least it’ll be obvious to the coaches, if they bother to talk to him about it.
Dan Straily is not impressive.
Dan Straily has the fastball command of a spastic and the mound presence of a Tourette’s Syndrome patient and I need him out of this game NOW.
Thank you Bob Melvin.
I wonder what his issue is. He was either trying to be too fine outside, or had control issues with his fastball, or was in his own head a little bit.
Poor command + straight fastball = home runs
You’d have to be some kind of special to give up 8 home runs in 4 starts in the Coliseum.
Why the F would you bunt here?
Wedge’d.
Live by the rookie pitcher, die by the rookie pitcher.
Figueroa was the right move if Blevins is out.
I’m talking about bad games by starters, mainly.
Go Figu(e0re(oa)!
Figueroa!!!! Where was that in Yankee Stadium?!?!?!
Good pitchin’ nonetheless there.
so, looking up quaint and alternative significations toward a nickname for figueroa, i ran across this fun fact. the first known photo of someone giving the bird is baseball related.
“cadillac’ed it.”
Runz. Now.
Vargas is just the wrong guy to a pressing team to face. You get changeup after changeup, and the A’s keep swinging and missing.
I’m sick and tired of the A’s stinking against Jason Vargas.
There’s something wrong with peeing in the sink?
Apparently my wife thinks so. (sigh)
batslam. drink!
Looking at the forecast, there are supposed to be thunderstorms until late tonight in Arlington, and then rain until tomorrow afternoon. So my assumption is that the Angels and Rangers will be playing an old-fashioned doubleheader on Sunday.
I don’t know who that helps.
It makes a split of the two games (at least seem) slightly more likely.
still 2 innings left to erase the memory of vargas.
What happens in Vargas stays in Vargas.
ew!
I know, huh?
Wow. Missed it the first time, but the ew factor is what makes it so great.
I want to make it a tagline.
Me too. I think it needs something more for it though.
so… anybody remember vargas?
I’m pretty sure he crawled inside his own asshole and got stuck there. We shant be seeing him again.
very good pitch actually.
Well, here’s the opportunity.
come on cespy. you got 3 corners of this game’s sheets tucked. go ahead and make your bed.
i had hopes, obviously.
Aw, nuts.
nice! / damn!
I was surprised Drew was thrown out so easily. Two outs, double off the wall. And it wasn’t really close.
Disappointing.
Ankle injury
Why even bother sending him, that run didn’t matter and a base hit would have tied it with 2nd and 3rd.
Thanks, and go As.
Pie? Pie.
start slicing it…
AM I DREAMING!?!?!?!?!?!?
JOSH FUCKING DONALDSON!!
I’ll be damned. One of my few correct predictions: Starting Donaldson was a good idea.
Yeah… In a year where almost everything that I thought was wrong Josh Donaldson Is Better Than You Think has been a good place to hang your hat.
Other things I got right:
Weeks sucking
Pennington Sucking
Colon being a good signing
Seth Smith not being very good
Things I got wrong
Reddick
Parker
Gomes
Things we gave up for Seth Smith being bad
Brandon Inge
Anderson being as good as he has been after TJS
BoSox getting better of the Bailey deal
Ryan Cook being worthless
I thought the A’s were going to lose a 100 games…turns out I was only off by 30 games or so.
yup
my god
Thanks, and go As.
and they’re going nuts… at my office. (it’s just me. but i’m totally going nuts.)
Holy crap! Fantastic call by KenKo. LOVE HIM.
Oh, and Donaldson, I guess he’s okay too.
He built a season’s worth of drama into that call. Ultra chills.
Big, unsung play: Moss’s catch that saved a run in the top of the ninth.
KK sang it. “how big does it loom.”
That sounds dirty. I like it.
Oliver Perez. I’m definitely dreaming.
let’s GO oakland!!!
7 hits in Crisp’s first two games back.
next year we fart on EVERYONE’S pillow.
No bunt. Don’t let them walk cespedes.
sac HR please?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET THE FUCKING PIE OUT!!!!!!
PIE TIME!!!
MOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
whatta game!
I WANT TO SEE THE PIE
Stay for the PIIIIIEEEE!!!!
Check the expiration date on that whipped cream before you use it! Been a while!
I guess Moss made up for that throwing error in the second inning.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omgomgomgomgomg
That was hard.
the harder they fall!
TWSS
not to me, she didn’t!
So Brandon Moss was a pretty good signing.
The Angels must be having the mother of all sadz right now.
Unless everything goes right for the Angels tomorrow (sweep the Rangers, A’s loss), Anaheim would trail Oakland by two games on Sunday night.
The A’s are as close to the Rangers as the Angels are to the A’s.
If we can take the game tomorrow and the Angels can pull off the sweep, we’ll be one behind the Rangers and two up on the Angels. Not a bad spot to be in.
Damn. It just occurred to me, that in that scenario, if we take two of three and force a game 4, and the Rangers are forced to play two tomorrow, they won’t have a fresh starter for Thursday.
Interesting. I guess Holland would have to go on short rest, since they probably wouldn’t want to risk Darvish coming off an injury.
Yup. And he’s not so solid right now. And hopefully Wash will continue to over manage/tax his bullpen.
Not just the Angels, but the Rangers and the Rays too.
KABANGSKY! Lol, Shooty.
Big ups to Figueroa for this one. Unsung hero.
True. He got a lot of well-deserved grief for the Game That Must Not Be Named, but did a very nice job today.
This was said above, but just to reiterate: Korach’s call on the Donaldson homer was ridiculously good.
Vince’s call on the Moss homer: less good.
yeah but not by much.
The Moss call was pretty good, and downright awesome by Vince’s standards.
Korach, as always, was pitch-perfect.
Vince adds that god damned superfluous phrase before he tells you what happened “The a’s are the walk off kings” useless.
I did not like it
Can’t believe only one person is with me on this, and really can’t believe its DFA.
own it
why does it surprise you that I would agree with you?
Because your name is “Doesn’t Fucking Agree”
that is hilarious
I wish that mlb.com also had audio highlights in addition to the video. :(
You are my hero. Thank you.
Mike Adams is done for the Rangers? Ouch for them.
2012, I have to admit that when I first met you, I had no idea I was going to fall crazy in love with you…
♥ ♥ ♥
:D
I feel so blessed to still live in a pre-apocalyptic world this late into 2012, let alone have my favorite team in strong contention too.
one and the same, ma’am. one and the same.
Thank you for reminding me.
NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SAY DIE!
My goal is to keep SuSlu writing Drumbeats for the A’s this postseason, not Splash Hits or whatever it was for the Giants.
I want Henry Schulman writing second-tier A’s stories.
I want Gwen Knapp to be kidnapped by pirates and forced to labor in an English-language Chinese media sweatshop for the rest of her days.

This is wonderful.
The pie-ing vid is up on CSNBayArea…
Looks like Angels/Rangers is officially postponed.
good.
I like how this is developing.
Woot! Double dip, shitty pitching story coming for the Rangers!
I don’t want to ask for TOO much, but wouldn’t it be neat if at least one of the games in Arlington tomorrow goes extra innings?
Extra innings for both and games that last alllll daaaaaaay in Arlington are okay with me.
And then they all have to get on a plane and fly to the West Coast. Preferably through mild turbulence, nothing dangerous, just enough to stop them sleeping.
How about neither team can get out of Texas until late morning Monday, but are stuck at the airport/on the tarmac trying?
You two are sadistic. I like that!
They sure are… I’d be satisfied with just turning the second game of the doubleheader on in the top of the 31st inning to see Jurickson Profar pitching to DH Jered Weaver with 85 people left in the stadium at 4:17 am Central Time. I am so excited that this could exhaust both teams completely. SO EXCITED.
Useless fuggin Red Sox…
Its ok. The Yankees will keep losing so we can host them instead
Love that!

right.
Picturing this time tomorrow is making me very happy.
Pity though, that a playoff clinch could only happen in the evening, after the fans have left the park.
I don’t want it to.
Kinda feels like they need to clinch on a walkoff.
Yeah, I had forgotten about walkoffs in the 7th 8th and 9th today. I was resigned to losing.
Shame on you.
in my defense, I was in the same spot I was last Saturday, at crissy field playing with the kids with one earbud in. Last saturday I almost threw my phone over the gg bridge in the one thing that had the one thing after the three awesome things
Agreed.
I want to clinch on the field in Oakland with the Rangers sitting there aghast wondering how the fk they lost the division.
I share this dream.
Lets see…A’s win today, Angels win both games-A’s magic number is 2, Rangers lead drops to 1 game.
A’s win tomorrow, Angels lose. A’s clinch at least a WC spot and move into a tie with the rangers.

Thanks, and go As.
Si!
It’s weird to be rooting for the Angels today. It feels like we should be rooting for the outcome that guarantees the A’s a spot in the playoffs, but winning the division would be awesome, and it avoids the crap shoot of a 1 game series.

Remind me, because this might turn out to be relevant.
Who won the season series between the Yankees and the A’s?
Tied 5-5
Who wins the tiebreaker and gets the home Wild Card game, in that case?
If no other team is involved, the A’s do because they have a better record against the East than the Yankees do against the West.
I think.
The second tie-breaker is Intradivision record and ours is better.
Yes, for the tiebreaker between the A’s and Yankees to come into effect the A’s would have to gain one game on the Yankees over the next four, and since all of both teams’ games are intradivision that would necessarily give the A’s the tiebreaker.
90. Win. Team.
Right? Who’d a thunk it?
The Reverend Billy Lard, although the year was fuzzy.
They’ll disappoint us in the end, but the Red Sox have tied the Orioles, 3-3, through 6 innings in Baltimore.
This is good news.
Yeah, well, they disappointed us in the end.

Oh yeah, before I turned it off, it looked like the stadium was maybe 2/3 full? That, above all else, may lead to Teddy’s dismissal. I hope his 5 million dollar home in Blackhawk was paid largely in cash.
Sorry you had to witness that, I hope the new stadium was at least enjoyable. I will be there for UW game (and Benedict Lopui), and am expecting that to my the only highlight of the evening.
That was glorious. There were about 32 Australians in the ticket line behind us who were excited to see our Australian lads.

PLease change you walk up music though
Yeah its horrible walk up music.
That was fun.

Edit: Crisp is up to 2.9 WAR after yesterday’s game. Josh Donaldson is hitting .298/.365/.516 since taking over for Inge. Even Stephen Drew has turned it on, with a 107 OPS+ since the trade.
pennington too. He is no longer useless
Yes; he’s at a cromulent .262/.319/.389 since coming back on Aug 8.
