FSU say Grillax 151

Oh yes indeed it’s fun time, fun time! I am prepared to enjoy every bit of the ecstasy and to absorb any bits of the agony we encounter between now and Wednesday. We’re in a playoff push virtually no one though possible, and not just in it, but well positioned. Everyone should be thrilled and delighted and, sure, nervous. But mostly excited.

Grillaxing:

Beer: it’s not just for drinking anymore!

Furious yarnbombing!

Don’t blame me, I voted for…wait, what was I saying?

Also, apparently the earth is quaking…

    Unless I’m missing something, we’ve lost every game this week where we didn’t put up a grill before the game. Co-wince-a-dense? I think not!

    I think I felt that quake, but when you’re on the fourth floor of an old building it can be hard to tell a small quake (2.7 about two miles away) from a big truck going by.

      Details. I felt it here in downtown Oakland, but might have dismissed it as a door slamming shut had someone near me not said “Earthquake!”

      oooh. the new USGS earthquake map is pretty neat. except the time zones. except, does it really only give two options (and are we in UTC-7)?

    RE: Potential tiebreaker game…

    Apparently, I can get my usual seats (215 – 12 – 8+9) at my usual price ($17 each) for the tiebreaker game, which will be on Thursday 10/4 if necessary, at a time TBD. Regardless of the time, I won’t be able to go, because I’m already taking Wednesday off in order to go to THAT game.

    So… anyone want to buy my tiebreaker tix from me for $34/pair?

      Ridiculous miss-micro-targeting, as most folks who do have Lyme, don’t know it — but at least the ad raises awareness, I guess.

      We’ve bored lotsa folks around here with tales of The DogMa’s treatment travails for Lyme and associated nasties. I won’t repeat those — yay — except to say the Feds could help if CDC recognized the chronic form of the disease, and the states could help it they’d quit threatening the credentials of Docs who do recognize, and treat it with LT antibiotics. Of course, the ad really doesn’t go to either of those points.

      Not that I’m complaining, but doesn’t it occur to any of his supporters that Willard’s failure to run a competent campaign reflects poorly on his vaunted business savvy that’s supposed to save us all?

        Do you know if the chronic form of Lyme is contagious in any manner?

        • the dogfather Sep 28,2012 1:34 pm || Up

          There is some suspicion that it may be sexually transmitted — Sue’s Lyme literate doc (Stricker in SF) has 100 or so couples among his 600 patients; FWIW the “spirochete” bacterium is said to be similar in form to the bug for syphillis. I tested + a few years into our relationship (for Lyme(!)) and was treated, successfully we think. Now, you could as easily say that couples do similar things that expose them to ticks, like hiking, so maybe it was two independent bites, etc. There’s a whole lot of research that has yet to be done, in part because the NIH/CDC refuse to take it as seriously as advocates would prefer.

            • the dogfather Sep 28,2012 4:51 pm || Up

              Sue knows more than most — if you want to discuss any of this with her, I’ll send you her cell #. tfcmail@gmail.com. There’s also a local support group that shares experiences, ‘scripts (shhhh), etc. Doc doesn’t take insurance because most insurance won’t cover chronic Lyme consultations. Sue has a helluva time getting her prescriptions filled, as well, and some of them are gawdawfully expensive.

      And btw: The tip I’ve heard for how, besides lemon juice, to keep guacamole from getting brown — leave the avocado pits in it — DOES NOT WORK.

        Nope. So stop leaving them in the guac!

          People leave the avocado pits in their guacamole?

            • Glorious Mundy Sep 28,2012 3:45 pm || Up

              That’s embarrassing.

              • Future Ed Sep 28,2012 3:46 pm || Up

                but isn’t the point that the pit lessens the exposure to air, not that “pits prevent browning”?

    I am ready to call it a week, and some FKer schedules a meeting at 3 to talk about why his people are unique snowflakes and shouldnt have to follow an established process.

    It has been a really long week and I am hoping I do not find a way to get myself fired during this call.

        My better friend was their boss got on the call. And while they are myopic managers who are seeing an individual tree, the leader was able to actually see the beautiful forest we have created for them. And one of my newer people actually added value on the call! A win-win.

    Batgirl, let me just say as we head into this weekend that I am way too elated about the A’s to be able to take the time to talk shit about the Broncos Sunday. Though I did hear that Peyton operates puppy mills in the offseason and chose Denver because the climate will make the puppies’ lives more miserable. Just what I heard.
