The clouds have parted and this lineup is ready to face Fausto Jairo? ROBERTO “Hernandez”.
#Athletics at #Indians: Crisp CF, Drew SS, Cespedes LF, Smith DH, Carter 1B, Reddick RF, Donaldson 3B, Norris C, Pennington 2B. Anderson P.

Please rise for the playing of the Municipal Anthem.
ahhh, ear butter. (KK is back.)
I’m very glad that you embedded that video. I love it.
it rocks!
“…Both of our buildings!”
LOL
Now that was an AB for Cespedes.
Yeah, I went over to snuggle with my cat and was surprised when I came back and he was still batting.
The Cespedes at bat was fun to watch on At Bat. Who was the injury delay?
Prior to his attempt at driving the ball through the wall, Cespedes fouled a pitch off the inside of his left foot. I guess he came through it OK.
Interesting. Gameday is using the “C” instead of Wahoo for the scoreboard.
CSN goes with Chief Wahoo on their score bug, at Ray’s insistence no doubt.
I think Fosse sabotaged Gameday, considering it still is displaying the starting defense for Cleveland.
it’s been a while huh reddick?
Hey folks, been a week since I could watch a game and we’re already not losing!
So many changes, Mr Anderson? FK YEAH!!!
What’s the consensus on Penny at 2B, is Drew a better defender at SS?
So we’re agreed that Brett Anderson did not in fact have TJS and was really just on a weight-loss program for a year, right?
No. We traded him for Evil Brett in an alternate reality.
Evil Brett’s a sexy bitch.
Yeah. And pretty good at pitching. Too bad he’s kind of an asshole tweeter now.
indeed.
Evil Brett needs a goatee like Evil Spock.
Injury timeout. Not for one of our guys this time.
I was wondering about that…
Pot, kettle, black and all that, but there sure appear to be a whole lot of good seats available at this game.
Their attendance has been positively shitty this year.
sounds like nobody knew if it’d be raining or not.
one run every inning, that’s all we ask.
(for now.)
That flyout was the first out Brett recorded in the outfield right?
I’m starting to like our playoff chances a touch more.
So if nothing wacky happens with the rotation in the next few days, we should be seeing Evil Brett pitch on Saturday.
Evil Brett, Bernie, links, and beer. I will be watching Paranormal while the Mrs. evaluates new candidates for her kids program.
I hate you all.
[smug look of satisfaction]
LOL poor Choo
He runs back to the dugout a lot faster than he’s ever run to cover first. (Not that I have any complaints about him right now).
I think I’m rooting for Baltimore and Tampa Bay tonight, but I’m open to arguments the other way.
I’m definitely rooting for tx. I think chances of winning the division almost negligible. The other one seems a tossup, I’m probably rooting for Baltimore.
The chance for the division is small, but the payoff is large. I’d like to keep the possibility in play until that last series in October. Plus, my gut feeling is that the Rays are going to run away with one of the wild cards if they don’t catch the Yankees.
Let them split while we sweep-we gain on everyone.
Win the whole DAMN THING.
oh no!
Fucking umpires.
Perfect game blown by nUmpire…
numb-pire?
You got it!
that’s a good one.
i’m working on LA ange-holes but it’s not quite working yet.
OC ‘A’holes’ works for me!
TWE’sBS (That’s what Ed’s Boss said)
he is the one that started the fall of the pirates last year.
Brings m to what I was thinking in the car, that is not an error, not really a hit either, its more of an error on the umpire, why cant it be scored that way*
* I acknowledge scoring rules are really really really really really really really really really really really really stupid
Ain’t that some shit.
Note: Don’t be too awesome, because if you are, you’ll surprise the umpire and he will rule in favor of the team based furthest to the east.
The concern over Anderson actually having the chance at a perfecto or not aside, what a shitty way to have it broken up.
Was that two outs? Are you sure, blue?
We need replay. Fking Little League has it. And it works out just fine and they have more replays because their umps are shit.
Agreed, so tired of people’s response- ‘it’s the game, worked for hundreds of years blah blah blah…’, how does a botched call make the game better?
For the Little League WS, each coach was allowed 2 failed challenges a game. And the umps were allowed to check any time they wanted. Someone behind the plate in front of a monitor checked and that was that. Given how TV’s love for reviewing shit like that, TV viewers don’t notice the break. And you can do the same on the scoreboard for the in-stadium audience.
And some were so obvious they were corrected within a minute.
Yup.
That would have applied to the Meals call tonight.
I like it.
I don’t like challenges. Replay whatever is necessary
I’m perfectly okay with that too.
Every time I hear “its a tradition, been around for hundreds of years” I cant help but reply “so was slavery”.
Tradition is something you do when you can’t think of anything better to do. Nothing more.
Is that why I masturbate every night?
No. You can think of something better to do. You just can’t afford to do it.
Well…fine, then!
and lead paint
He got that one right at least…
Managers should have 3 replays a game, to make up for lost time batters may only walk out of the box 3 times an AB, anyone w/ me?
Who got what right?
I was being snarky, DP call at first.
i’m not watching. was it a makeup call perhaps?
Out by two full steps.
The Reddick one that just happened was close and he got it right.
it most definitely couldn’t possibly have been. (prof: VC just said it was.)
Yeah, you can’t really make up a end of the perfect game call.
Bad time for the make up call.
Bear Data Solution of the game?!
So how’d we score?
We said “Hey baby, you want to have the sex?” And she said yes.
And then we had the sex. Three times.
She did love the Schlong Long Dong.
Looks like she got a big zero out of it though.
“Wins Against Replacement”??
These guys are in fine form tonight.
Can we get DFA in the booth? Have it call them out every time they say something stupid. So it would be 95% DFA and 5% Glen & Ray.
Yeah NPR got some cred from me when talking about the Melky suspension by mentioning his 5 WAR which according to them meant wins above average. The Problem? WAR is Wins Above Replacement not WAA (Wins Above Average).
Also it falters me that you would like to listen to me talk for three hours straight for 162 days.
I’d rather listen to your voice than theirs. Plus you’d occasionally shut the fuck on occasion.
Especially if you actually say “falters” instead of “flatters.”
I’d pay a substantial amount of $ to hear DFA call a few innings on the TV side
heh
So Kuiper and Fosse don’t even know what WAR stands for, let alone means.
Anyone surprised?
To quote Obama, “it’s like they’re proud of being ignorant.”
But did they make a “WAR: What is it good for?” joke?
OK, I LOL’d, well played
I feel like we should have scored more than 0 runs in 4 innings off this Seddon guy.
Despite the bluster and awkwardness, I have to kinda give it to Chris Matthews today for scraping the shit of the street this morning.
Can anyone out-smug Priebus, its almost impressive.
saw that, loved it
funny that it’s so rare a leftish type tell it like it is that it seems so out there when one does on cable “news”
I liked it when Soledad O’Brien let Sununu have it.
I wish it happened more.
Dems need to start fighting back, it’s just going to get worse, all the claims are fantasy nowadays…
Some people are already taking this Dinesh D’Souza Obama film as truth when it’s been shown a number of D’Souza’s claims are based on lies or incorrect info.
yeah… he finally got HBO so that he could see Newsroom and got inspired.
Scoring another run would be huge here to save Doolittle/Cook and Balfour, who’d be pitching in his third straight game.
At least they were off yesterday.
Did Glen just say he was behind in the count 0 and Choo?
gesundheit.
Dmitri young is the Indians ballboy?
Yay!
I don’t mind grabbing a few of these easy wins against little organized resistance.
thats one.
one more tomorrow
Shoutout!
Holla?
I am glad Brett did not threaten to pitch a perfect game any farther than he did. I don’t want him to over extend on something like that
Hooray, victory!
NOICE!
A fine evening of baseball, let’s do this 3 more times this weekend.
weekend?
I meant the rest of the week
I guess having this time off has me in permaweekend mode
nice
After going 5-8 the first half of August, the A’s are now 14-10 with 4 left to play.
th a’s really need to win these games
They kind of need to sweep this one or at the very least take 6 of 7 over the Indians/Red Sox. Not going to be many weak teams after this weekend.
5-2 is not exactly a failure, but yeah, need to take advantage*
*kill me if I am talking like vince
*depends on your level of confidence.
Baltimore, dammit, lose.
I’m OK with them waiting until the ChiSox leave town to start losing.
I feel like I should be ok with it because they still have a couple of series against the Yankees and Rays, but the more they win, the more it feels like they won’t lose.
24-6 in one-run games … run differential of -46 … regress, dammit.
standings have Bal and Oak tied with TB half game and Detroit a full game out. LAAOA four and a half back. Chicago is 2 games up on Detroit and therefore a game a head of Bal and Oak.
By some miracle, The A’s play all these teams again. Without doing the math, shouldn’t holding serve be good enough? Bal and tampa bay play each other plus the yankees.
Det and ChiW play each other, of they trade wins no one is worse off.
The A’s seem to be in charge of their fate.
No man is in charge of his fate.
True, but some are more in charge than others.
ah, the thin line between fate accomplice and fait accompli.
Meh. Detroit & the ChiSox have a fairly easy road ahead of them with the Royals, Twins, & Indians. Both the O’s and Rays have the Jays & BoSox on their schedule. After the Sox, the only team under .500 we get is the M’s who have been hot & cold. The Rangers in the mean time get the Royals & Indians in September. The only significant difference between ours and the Angels schedule is they get the Royals instead of the Yankees.
We play the hardest schedule after this weekend. And a lot of it on the road where we haven’t been as good.
With all the remaining games between contenders it’ll be very interesting to follow the RIOT standings.
Those numbers don’t seem particularly accurate.
It helps if I’d actually figured out how to read it and didn’t read it backwards.
huh? all the A’s have to do is win 5 games and they’re in the postseason, guaranteed? i must be reading that wrong.
yeah ok nevermind got it.
Thinking about what other teams are doing is confusing. It’s easier to figure out what the A’s have to do. I think it’s a reasonable assumption that winning 90 games gives you a fairly high chance at a wild card and to do that the A’s would have to go 20-15. Can they play .571 ball the rest of the way with the upcoming schedule? Hard to say, but it’s tough.
The question is whether 90 wins gets you the first or second wild card.
Assuming that (which is a fair assumption), if we sweep the Indians & Red Sox (which should be doable though not guaranteed for a playoff caliber team) then we’d only have to go 14 – 15 in our last 29 games. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes more though. Too many teams for too few positions for it. I would have thought (hoped) a few of these teams would have faded by now.
Without thinking about it too hard, I think I’d rank the teams in order of likelihood of making the playoffs, at this moment:
Rangers
Yankees
White Sox
Tigers
Rays
A’s
Angels
Orioles
That sounds about right. And the scary thing is that a week from now (while unlikely), it’s possible that could be reversed.
I was listening to vince in the car today. have to say in all fairness, he can do good work at times. He was good today.
Rays, White Sox, Yankees lose.
Orioles, Rangers win.
Not bad, all in all.
They need to stop playing against each other so they can all lose.
So I ended up sleeping though the whole game. Sad.
It wasn’t very exciting, really. The A’s got an early lead and then choked them out.
Rear naked choke?
Do I want to know what that is?

Does anyone else keep thinking its Tuesday because there was no game on Sunday?!
EN thinks it’s a 5-day weekend. i think it’s thursdayish because i worked all weekend.
13 days. When I work on Saturday, that’s how long it will be since I last worked.
I think its monday because it is. I have to know what day I have to to what thing. Its important and stuff
You’re an important doctor or architect or some such silliness.
I am not impotent
Well…you dress it.

Actually I think it’s a 7-day weekend. Permanently :D
I love Devo. A lot. It does take some luster off knowing that they were Studio 54 people.
They were probably that ironically, though, ed.
I am not sure I would have the strength of character to gain admittance to Studio 54 and be ironic about it.
Seeing the Kent State killings in person confers lifelong anti-sellout cred.
this.
yup.
Yup, I shouldn’t be so hard on them
DEVO is the most subversive band ever, and also the most inclusive, seeing as how “We’re all DEVO!”
It’s impossible to go one step out into the world and not perceive the ultimate truth: that De-evolution is real.
Thank you, Spud Boy.
I hope you find your real tomato someday!
Screw you, nameless CPA. You suck.

Bedard was just released. Could be an interesting pickup…
Was just coming here to say that. Couldn’t possibly be worse than (for example) Tyson Ross
As a seventh starter, or as a reliever?
Depends on injuries, but either.
I was thinking Matsuzaka’s on waivers and he could fit in with the Extreme Fly Ball Staff theme.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s game story sums it up for what’s left of the Indians’ fan base:
Nice writeup. And even 88K for a three-game series vs NYY ain’t all that great.
Best line:
colin bait: be careful as you camp!
Nurse U stayed in Curry VIllage one night last month. So far no hantavirus.
I stayed in Curry Village both of the last two times I visited, in cabins. Wasn’t there this year though.
I was staying in the Yosemite Lodge (opted for a private bathroom, to make it easier to get dolled up for the wedding), so hopefully that means I was out of hantavirus territory.
well… did you lick any mouse pee?
uh oh
and a treat for the emperor:
That’s FKing awesome!
No shit!
Photoshop?
“europe?”
A’s tickets on Groupon.
