    Now that was an AB for Cespedes.

    • Cretgren Aug 27,2012 4:20 pm || Up

      Yeah, I went over to snuggle with my cat and was surprised when I came back and he was still batting.

  4. Englishmajor Aug 27,2012 4:20 pm

    The Cespedes at bat was fun to watch on At Bat. Who was the injury delay?

    • gonealookin Aug 27,2012 4:21 pm || Up

      Prior to his attempt at driving the ball through the wall, Cespedes fouled a pitch off the inside of his left foot. I guess he came through it OK.

    Interesting. Gameday is using the “C” instead of Wahoo for the scoreboard.

      CSN goes with Chief Wahoo on their score bug, at Ray’s insistence no doubt.

      I think Fosse sabotaged Gameday, considering it still is displaying the starting defense for Cleveland.

    Hey folks, been a week since I could watch a game and we’re already not losing!
    So many changes, Mr Anderson? FK YEAH!!!

    What’s the consensus on Penny at 2B, is Drew a better defender at SS?

  8. JamesV Aug 27,2012 4:49 pm

    So we’re agreed that Brett Anderson did not in fact have TJS and was really just on a weight-loss program for a year, right?

      No. We traded him for Evil Brett in an alternate reality.

    • mikeA Aug 27,2012 5:38 pm || Up

      I’m definitely rooting for tx. I think chances of winning the division almost negligible. The other one seems a tossup, I’m probably rooting for Baltimore.

      • Glorious Mundy Aug 27,2012 5:44 pm || Up

        The chance for the division is small, but the payoff is large. I’d like to keep the possibility in play until that last series in October. Plus, my gut feeling is that the Rays are going to run away with one of the wild cards if they don’t catch the Yankees.

    Was that two outs? Are you sure, blue?

  24. dmoas Aug 27,2012 5:34 pm

    We need replay. Fking Little League has it. And it works out just fine and they have more replays because their umps are shit.

    • brian.only Aug 27,2012 5:37 pm || Up

      Agreed, so tired of people’s response- ‘it’s the game, worked for hundreds of years blah blah blah…’, how does a botched call make the game better?

      • dmoas Aug 27,2012 5:43 pm || Up

        For the Little League WS, each coach was allowed 2 failed challenges a game. And the umps were allowed to check any time they wanted. Someone behind the plate in front of a monitor checked and that was that. Given how TV’s love for reviewing shit like that, TV viewers don’t notice the break. And you can do the same on the scoreboard for the in-stadium audience.

            standings have Bal and Oak tied with TB half game and Detroit a full game out. LAAOA four and a half back. Chicago is 2 games up on Detroit and therefore a game a head of Bal and Oak.

            By some miracle, The A’s play all these teams again. Without doing the math, shouldn’t holding serve be good enough? Bal and tampa bay play each other plus the yankees.

            Det and ChiW play each other, of they trade wins no one is worse off.

              Meh. Detroit & the ChiSox have a fairly easy road ahead of them with the Royals, Twins, & Indians. Both the O’s and Rays have the Jays & BoSox on their schedule. After the Sox, the only team under .500 we get is the M’s who have been hot & cold. The Rangers in the mean time get the Royals & Indians in September. The only significant difference between ours and the Angels schedule is they get the Royals instead of the Yankees.

              We play the hardest schedule after this weekend. And a lot of it on the road where we haven’t been as good.

              Thinking about what other teams are doing is confusing. It’s easier to figure out what the A’s have to do. I think it’s a reasonable assumption that winning 90 games gives you a fairly high chance at a wild card and to do that the A’s would have to go 20-15. Can they play .571 ball the rest of the way with the upcoming schedule? Hard to say, but it’s tough.

              The question is whether 90 wins gets you the first or second wild card.

                Assuming that (which is a fair assumption), if we sweep the Indians & Red Sox (which should be doable though not guaranteed for a playoff caliber team) then we’d only have to go 14 – 15 in our last 29 games. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes more though. Too many teams for too few positions for it. I would have thought (hoped) a few of these teams would have faded by now.

            • Glorious Mundy Aug 27,2012 10:25 pm || Up

              Without thinking about it too hard, I think I’d rank the teams in order of likelihood of making the playoffs, at this moment:

              Rangers
              Yankees
              White Sox
              Tigers
              Rays
              A’s
              Angels
              Orioles

              • dmoas Aug 27,2012 10:35 pm || Up

                That sounds about right. And the scary thing is that a week from now (while unlikely), it’s possible that could be reversed.

    Rays, White Sox, Yankees lose.
    Orioles, Rangers win.

    Not bad, all in all.

      They need to stop playing against each other so they can all lose.

                  DEVO is the most subversive band ever, and also the most inclusive, seeing as how “We’re all DEVO!”

                  It’s impossible to go one step out into the world and not perceive the ultimate truth: that De-evolution is real.

    The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s game story sums it up for what’s left of the Indians’ fan base:

    If you closed your eyes, it felt just like old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. To be sure some things were missing.

    The guy ringing his bell behind home plate and shouting “Juuuulio” for Julio Franco wasn’t there. The mad clapper didn’t make it either. There were no mice in the press box, the bathrooms didn’t overflow and swarms of midges could not be seen hovering above the mound.

    But the hopelessness of a fast-approaching September to signal the end of yet another forgettable season by another beaten team was present. The thump of John Adams’ bass drum cascading down from the bleachers was way too loud in the nearly empty ballpark. It asked for something that wasn’t there — joy.

    Over 88,000 fans came to Progressive Field over the weekend to see the Yankees take two out of three from the Tribe. It was the last time most of the ballpark’s green seats will have a rear end in them this season.
